Members can host a birthday party, a company picnic, graduation party, or a summer bash to spend time with their best buddies. Swimming with the Sharks: Swim Team News Our pool is home to a group of hardworking young athletes known as the Nansemond Sharks! These swimmers practice each weekday to compete in the Western Tidewater Swim Association. Led by Coach Mark Keating and his team of talented assistants, the Sharks invite all NSC members to stop by during practice or one of our swim meets to cheer on your team! With the hard work comes success: our 2011 team came in 2nd in the All Star meet and 3rd overall in the league. The season consists of eight swim meets, including five home competitions, plus Keep Smilin, Sharks! one All-Star Meet. Swim meets are on Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Host a Private Party After Hours! Want to host a large number of guests? Hosting a private, after-hours party is an affordable option exclusive to NSC members! Reserve the entire pool for a special occasion for your friends and family this summer. After hours parties are priced according to the number of guests attending, but start at $150 for a two hour party. You provide the food, drink, and fun! Complete details are available through the pool office. Ask about availability today and start planning a memorable event. Will your friends enjoy pool volleyball at your private party? Nansemond Swim Club Pool Rules These rules are for the safety of all who use the pool. Please take a moment to review these rules with your family: No running on pool concrete. No punching, dunking, chicken fighting, spitting or using squirt guns. Floats are not allowed in the deep end. In the event of overcrowding in the pool, you may be asked to remove your float. Sponge balls may be used in the pool. No hard balls are allowed. Balls should not be thrown across the entire pool when crowded. The wading pool is for small children. Parents are responsible for their safety. Children should not climb the walls/fence in the wading pool. Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult, unless they have demonstrated their swimming skills to a lifeguard and parents have signed a waiver of liability with the Manager. All members must register themselves and guests at the front gate with a lifeguard. Guest fees are $5.00 per swimmer. Only one person is allowed on the diving board at a time. AB- SOLUTELY NO gainers or inverted dives are allowed. A member and/or guest may be asked to leave if these rules are not followed. Alcoholic beverages are only allowed at special events; those consuming must be at least 21 years of age. Smoking by anyone under the age of 18 is not permitted. NO glass containers are allowed at the pool. Trash cans are conveniently located around the pool. The pool will close when the air temperature drops below 70 degrees and during storms; parents are responsible for ensuring their child is picked up under such conditions. No pets are allowed at the pool. The pool is not responsible for loss or damage to private property at the pool. The parking lot is to be used for parking only; no loitering. All children in diapers are required to wear swim diapers while at the pool. You may purchase these in the snackbar if you do not have one. Managers will monitor rain days. We try to keep the pool open as much as possible; however, sometimes we have to close due to inclement weather. Members are responsible for the conduct of their family members and guests while on pool property. Members must be present at the pool when they have guests. We welcome all members and their guests, but please remember that the pool is not a babysitting service. This policy will be strictly enforced to ensure the safety of all members. Page 4
Learn to Swim for Safety & Health Non swimmer in the family? Or someone who needs to refine their skills? Nansemond Swim Club can recommend group lessons or private lessons depending upon your needs. Group lesson instructors offer the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program. Check the bulletin board for group lessons. Level 4 and/or 5 Tennis lessons can be organized, too, if there is enough interest. Contact the pool office for more information. If private lessons are a better fit, ask our staff for recommendations. We know instructors who would love to teach swimming skills on a per-lesson basis. Swimming is an activity which spans all abilities, ages, and fitness levels. Swimming is a lifelong gift for fitness and fun! reasons every person should learn to swim. The benefits last a lifetime... and it sure is FUN! Tennis is another recreation and fitness opportunity offered at Nansemond Swim Club. Volunteers and staff have worked hard to return our tennis courts to playable condition. And in our off-season, our perimeter fencing areas were cut back and cleaned, removing the vines growing on the tennis court fence. Showing your game on the courts will make them ook even better! Members Mark and Nancy Keating offer tennis lessons at our facility for all ages. Already love tennis? Please see our staff about exclusive keyed access to the courts. NSC Wish List Nansemond Swim Club has an ongoing wish list of items for our members and staff. Some are small items you may have and no longer use.
