Earl & Cadet Ms R Debels Riding Changes: As R Hutchings was unable to make the weight, Stewards permitted the following riding substitutions: Race 4 N Heywood on Hands Off Race 7 M Bell on Kopi Luwak R Hutchings was subsequently fined $200 (AR120(b)). RACE 1: Tab.com.au Maiden Country Showcase Handicap 1000m: Missed Out After being slow to begin was then bumped shortly after by Bay of Modena. When questioned regarding the performance, M Bell stated his mount travelled strongly in the early stages however when challenged by the eventual winner Bay of Modena his mount found little and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. One More Tipple Began awkwardly. Making the home turn was awkwardly placed close to to the heels of Kruptease. Raced very greenly under pressure in the straight and was inclined to shift ground. Amelda Near the 900m was steadied off the heels of Bay of Modena (S Guymer) which shifted in when not clear. Raced greenly under pressure in the straight and was inclined to lay out. S Guymer was advised to exercise more care. Munro S Guymer (Bay Of Modena) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding (AR137(a)) in that passing the 700m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Munro which lost its rightful running and was restrained and shifted out to avoid that runner s heels. S Guymer s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday 28 th February 2018 and to expire on Tuesday 6 th March 2018 on which day he may ride. Chocolate Devil Rider A Layt stated his mount never stretched out at any stage of the event. Trainer W Mathie was advised that the mare which was beaten 23L must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
RACE 2: Your Home Matters Class 2 Showcase Handicap 1000m: 2 I Am Kalani Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Near the 300m was severely checked when crowded out onto Stone Cold by One Stryke which shifted out abruptly. A postrace veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stone Cold Near the 300m was severely checked when crowded between Parlay Vous and I Am Kalani which was taken out by One Stryke which ran out abruptly. Rider M Bell accidentally dropped his whip near the 200m. One Stryke - Near the 300m ran out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Rider R Hutchings stated after his mount ran out badly near the 300m he was then able to test his mount for a short distance however it then laid in badly and as result he was unable to test his mount over the concluding stages. Whilst Stewards accepted R Hutching s explanation in respect to his riding over the concluding stages, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation where possible to ride his mounts out fully to the line. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near-fore (1/5). Stable representative C McCulloch was advised that a veterinary clearance is required for the gelding prior to it then barrier trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Parlay Vous Rider J Penza accidentally dropped his whip over the concluding stages. RACE 3: Antony & Edwards Benchmark 67 Showcase Handicap 1600m: Delude Slow to begin. J Adams (Cliff) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that passing the 1300m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Delude which lost its running, struck the heels of Delude and blundered. J Adams license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 4 th March 2018 and to expire on Friday 16 th March 2018 on which day he may ride. Cliff A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer J Cleary was advised a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG is required prior to the gelding then barrier trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards. Mr J Cleary advised that the gelding would be spelled in the interim. Fun Tickets Slow to begin. RACE 4: Twinstar Racing Maiden Showcase Plate 1600m: Sacrifice Trainer W Roche was fined $50 for presenting the gelding with blinkers which were not part of its advertised gear (AR140B). She s Demanding Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 1300m was eased off the heels of Gods Sent (K Nisbet) which shifted in when not quite clear. K Nisbet was advised to exercise more care. Hands Off Slow to begin. Near the 350m shifted out across the heels of She s Demanding to continue into clear running.
3 Beauty Kanas Near the 100m was steadied when briefly tightened by She s Demanding which shifted in slightly and Love Waves (J Penza) which shifted out. J Penza was advised to exercise more care. Plus Belle La Vie Began awkwardly. Io s Orbit Got its head up shortly after the start. Raced wide for some distance in the early stages. Brian s Lass Raced wide throughout. RACE 5: Goulburn Class 1 Showcase Handicap 1400m: Tearaway Charlie Trainer D Pfieffer was fined $50 for the late declaration of K Jennings as the rider of the gelding (LR35). Scent of a Woman As B Ryan was indisposed due to an ankle injury, Stewards permitted J Penza to be substituted as the rider of the mare. Slow to begin. Hirapour Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Double Dux The gelding hung out badly from the 600m and ran wide in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out to the line. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G Payne was advised the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. Sunday Hustler Lay out under pressure in the straight. RACE 6: Goulburn Signs Benchmark 60 Showcase Handicap 1300m: Tiger By The Tale Lay in badly under pressure in the straight and proved difficult to ride out. Friskee One Slow to begin (5L). Trainer N Osbourne was advised that the mare would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Goodlookin rooster Slow to begin. App A Sweeney pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out over the concluding stages. App Sweeney s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday 28 th February 2018 and to expire on Wednesday 7 th March 2018 on which day he may ride. In issuing a suspension of license the Stewards considered the margin of a ½ head between Goodlookin rooster and third placed Ready Set Sing. Inch Perfect Slow to begin. No Luck Needed Near the 1000m brushed the rail and became unbalanced. Nagging Raced keenly in the middle stages.
RACE 7: SERA Country Championships Qualifier 1400m: 4 Bocelli Trainer Ms T Burleigh was advised that the gelding which again proved difficult to load today causing a delay to the start would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. Barrier Attendant Mr J Gibbs was injured when the gelding kicked out behind the barriers. Mr Gibbs was attended to and transported to Goulburn Hospital for further treatment with a suspected arm injury. Slow to begin. Aquittal Bumped on jumping by Pumpkin Pie. Pumpkin Pie Rider B El-Issa was spoken to concerning returning to scale 400g under his declared weight. Lay out making the home turn. Up Trumpz The gelding which became fractious in the barriers and momentarily got a hind leg up was examined by the club s veterinary officer and passed fit to start. Kopi Luwak Near the 400m was disappointed for a run between Territorial and Don t Give A Damn and shifted in to continue into clear running. Don t Give A Damn When questioned regarding the performance, N Heywood stated that his mount was stirred up in its preliminary and was fractious behind the barriers. He added after beginning well he was able to take up a forward position without making too much use of his mount however it never travelled comfortably thereafter and was a beaten horse on straightening. He added when his mount was not responding and he had some concerns with its action, he did not test his mount over the final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer D Williams advised that the gelding had pleased him leading into today s event and had performed well in a gallop on Tuesday 20 th February 2018. He added he could not offer any explanation in respect to the gelding s performance other than that the horse may have got too stirred up prior to the race with the start delayed due to a number of fractious horses and that the horse may not have appreciated the 3 week break between runs. The Stewards adjourned the matter to allow Mr Williams to report back to the Stewards on the progress of the gelding in the days subsequent. Chewbacca Hung out from the 600m and ran wide on the home turn. Trainer D Williams was advised that a warning would be recorded against the gelding in respect to its barrier manners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery. Trainer D Williams was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to the gelding racing again. Gitan Taken wider on the home turn by Chewbacca which hung out. Biodynamic A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. She s Got Bling A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have sustained a small laceration to the near-hind. RACE 8: NJB Racing Maiden Showcase Handicap 1300m: Captain Ryder The E & L Longmire training partnership was fined $50 for the late declaration of K Latham as the rider of the gelding (LR35).
5 The Promise Near the 1000m was hampered by Red Currant which was taken out slightly by Zaffirina. The filly which was inclined to lay in was corrected by its rider close to the line. Red Currant Slow to begin. Zaffirina Bumped with Red Captain on jumping. Red Captain Bumped with Zaffirina on jumping. Tiara Road A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. GENERAL: Trainer D Williams was fined $100 for the late notification that Delude (race 3) would race with Concussion Plates (Front) On (not Pads as advertised), and Mister Marmalade (race 7) would race with the Concussion Plates (Front) Off (AR140B). Summary of whip use: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii).
