February 2015 The Outpost Special points of interest: February Cookies: Birthday Cake Three Forks Treasure Hunters Club News Treasure Hunter s Day February 28, 2015 Saturday, February 28th, from 10 AM until 3:00 PM, is the Annual Treasure Hunter s Day at the Three Rivers Museum in Muskogee. A lot of advertising is done by the museum to promote the day for those who are interested in treasure hunting. This is a chance to share our hobby, establish new contacts, and possibly new places to hunt. Over the past few years we have obtained new club members from this event. Inside this issue: Treasure Hunter s Day at the Museum 1 Secretary Notes 2 Spring Hunt 3 Club Auction 3 Birthdays & Anniversaries 3 Coming events 3 Find of the Month Winners Find of the Month Rules YOU ARE NEEDED! National Hunt Flyer Spring Hunt Flyer 4 5 5 6 7 We need your help! Come out and bring some of your finds, your metal detectors, your passion about treasure hunting to share with others. Remember, this is an opportunity to promote our hobby, get to know others in the area who have the same interests, and answer questions about our hobby. Three Rivers Museum is located at 220 Elgin St., Muskogee, OK. You may contact Sue Tolbert at the museum for more for information at 918-686-6624 or call Gary Young at 918-869-0895. About Three Forks Treasure Hunters Club Who We Are: Three Forks Treasure Hunters Club is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of metal detecting as a hobby. No brand or model of metal detector is endorsed by the club. Membership is open to the public with the only requirement being that all members follow the Treasure Hunters Code of Ethics. Club dues are $25.00 per family yearly. Meetings: We meet on the first Friday of each month at the Wagoner Community Building at the corner of Jefferson and Cherokee Street in Wagoner, Oklahoma. Meeting begins at 7:30 pm. Next Meeting: Friday, February 6, 2015

Three Forks Treasure Hunter's Club News January Secretary Notes By Cathy Young Page 2 The meeting began at 7:30pm with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Chuck Marcum and the Prayer given by Gary Young. New President Tom Spears reminded members to pick up their name badges, to get their raffle tickets, and to pay their 2015 Club Dues. Tom welcomed new member Aaron Rankins. Tom acknowledged those with January birthdays and anniversaries. Cathy gave the Secretary Report. Larry gave the Treasurer s Reports. Old Business: Recap of the Christmas Raffle Giveaway: We sold $590.00 of raffle tickets for the gift card. After expenses for the card and to print the raffle tickets, the club made a profit of $75.00. The winning ticket was drawn and won by Tom Spears. New Business: Presentation Jerry Hoffman presented on his new book Postcard History Series Muskogee. It is a fascinating look at local Muskogee history, through postcards. His book is available for sale and he will even autograph them for you if desired. Logo Larry Koch proposed a change in the club logo. He stated that it needs to have the location as Wagner instead of Muskogee, since we meet there. He also felt the logo should have something to do with metal detecting instead of the eagle. He asked for members to come up with a design and present it to the board for approval, and then it would be presented to the members for the final approval. National Hunt Tom reminded us about the upcoming National Hunt on April 18 & 19. He reminded members that it takes lots of work and we need lots of help to make it successful. Tim Adams briefly described the different hunts for new members. Club auction will be during the March meeting. This is one of the club s fund raisers, with profits used to buy silver for club hunts and for the silver given away for the Find of the Month winners. Members were reminded to bring lots of things to auction off, as well as money to buy. Spring Night Hunt The club will be having a Spring Night Hunt on Saturday, March 21st at the Church of Christ in Muskogee. (See article on the hunt.) Find of the Month rules were discussed and clarification made on what can or cannot be entered. Only items found since the last meeting can be entered. Hunting can be done in any location desired, but items must be found by the detector and within the month following the previous meeting and not a planted hunt. (See article on Find of the Month Rules) Find of the Month Contest A question was brought up about needing to be present to enter items in the Find of the Month contest. After discussion by several members, it was agreed that members can enter without being present, but each person can only enter up to four (4) times in a calendar year, without physically being here. Club Dues DUES ARE DUE!!! Previous club member dues will not be pro-rated, only those who are new to the club, may have their fees pro-rated beginning in May of the current year. The Donation Raffle was done by Mary Tracy, Tim Adams, and Tom Spears. After the break Tom mentioned the need for members to help with the newsletter, tallying the Finds of the Month totals, taking pictures of the finds, taking club pictures, making flyers for hunts, judging the finds, and helping with the raffles. Several people stepped up and volunteered. THANK YOU!!! The Amateur and Professional Finds of the Month winners were announced; with the Golden Eagle Award going to Chuck Marcum for his Texas Cuff Button. Donation winner Mary Tracy. Attendance winner Gary Young on the 2nd draw (1st draw Nancy Coffey). 50/50 pot ($25) won by Jerry Hoffman, with the consolation prize going to Howie Rosser. Display drawing Ken Fanning The meeting was adjourned at 9:00. Board meeting to follow. Respectfully submitted by: Cathy Young

The Outpost Page 3 Spring Hunt March 21st, 2015 The Spring Hunt will be Saturday, March 21st at the Church of Christ in Muskogee, OK. There will be both Silver and Night hunts. We will start with the Silver Hunt. There will be one (1) silver dollar for every two (2) entries in this hunt. The hunt fees for this hunt are $20.00 per person, with all the fees going back into the hunt. The Night Hunt will be at dark-thirty. The club is putting in $300 worth of silver dimes into this hunt. Fees for this hunt are $15 or 12 silver dimes. We will break for dinner at 5:00. The club will provide the hot dogs, buns, and condiments (catsup, mayo, mustard, relish). Members are asked to bring chili, chips, salads, desserts, or anything else you want to share. Those planning on coming to the hunt are encouraged to sign up or call Cathy Young at 918-360-5586. The Outpost Page 5 Find of the Month Contest Rules Several questions were raised and clarification was needed for the Find of the Month Contests rules and regulations. So here is a list of the most important ones: All items entered must be found since the last meeting. Nothing is to be held over from previous month findings. No coins or other items found in a planted hunt can be entered. Items must be submitted by 7:30, with only one entry in any of the 7 categories. Coins must be listed in the Red coin book or other professional books as needed and all judges decisions are final!! For each category entered, 1st place earns 7 points, 2nd place earns 5 points, and 3rd place earns 3 points. Any item entered, but does not place, will receive 1 point toward the Find of the Month contest. On the chance of a tie, both entries will earn the same amount of points. Displays brought will earn points. The points are awarded the same as the category points. Members can enter without being present, but each person can only enter up to four (4) times in a calendar year, without physically being there. The idea is that you find items and attend meetings to show off your finds. Foreign coins will be judged in the Coins category. Please remember this is all done on the honor system. YOU ARE NEEDED! It is time to start preparing for the National Hunt! Think about how YOU can help. Your are needed to be in charge of hunts, set up the chairs and tables, string fields, work in the concessions, raffle off silver halves, sale tickets for the detector raffle, help with the clean up after the hunt. Remember, this is YOUR CLUB s hunt. Get involved! WE NEED YOU!!!
