Tuesday Burgers Wednesday ** We are also looking for a few new volunteers to join our group of veterans. If you are willing to commit to one night a month and are looking to have fun please give Dave a call 887- Please be on the lookout for runaway cooler bags Over 25 of our cooler bags, used to keep beverages on the course cold, have disappeared this season. Perhaps one jumped into your trunk when you weren't looking? If you find one our lost bags please return to the Lodge.

On June 26th the 2nd Annual Moose Golf Outing was held. The sold out event with 80 golfers and 20 plus volunteers raised over $7,000 to help pay the $14,000 summer tax bill! The men s longest drive was won by Joe Hansen. Penny Blackall won the women s longest drive. The four man scramble event was won by the Hansen Team of Eric, Joe, Jake, and Josh. It is believed that the secret of the team s success is Jello Shots, as it was reported they purchased more than any other team. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this event fun and successful. A special thank you to Pam Hansen who chaired the event for the second year. Without her hard work and organization skills the even would not have happened. The Michigan Moose State tournament was held Aug. 6th & 7th and Aug. 13th & 14th. Moose golfers descended upon the Morrison Lake Country Club in Ionia from 18 different Lodges. The GR/ Sparta #50 was well represented. Roger & Penny Blackall took 2nd place with a 2 day aggregate score of 144. While Rusty & Sandy Keeler did very well themselves taking 4th place with a score of 146 in their respective divisions. Penny Blackall also took top honors for the women s long drive contest. Seems she s liking that new Cobra driver she recently purchased! The tournament next year will be held in Fremont. If you re interested in participating next year please contact Roger Blackall or Rusty Keeler, either one can get you signed up. It s always held the first two weekends in August. I d really like to see more GR/Sparta Lodge members participating in this great event. It s a great way to meet Moose members from other lodges. The golf leagues may have wrapped up for the season, but the fall offers some of the best golfing of the year. Tuesday evening is a scramble that is open to all. The group will draw for teams and tee off at 4:30. $5.00 a person. Also, the Friday scramble will continue as long as the weather cooperates. The group draws for teams and tees off at noon. Come out and enjoy golfing without the heat. Daily specials will be in effect. The Tom Schmid Memorial Golf Outing The July 23rd fundraiser in memory of Tom Schmid was a great success! Special thanks to everyone on the committee who worked so hard putting things together to make everything perfect; Brent, Ike, Jan, Rex, Pat, Gary, Jeanie, Jim, Bill, Pam, Eric, Georgene, Pat, and to all the golfers who made it through the very, very, hot weather. You were truly great friends to Tom. Your time and generosity is greatly appreciated. To the special dedication of the memorial bench, it was extremely heart warming and will be a special reminder for years to come. To everyone else who joined in where help was needed and all those who could not golf but joined in on all the festivities. All of you have made it possible to put Hook a Kid on Golf program back on the Moose schedule for summer of 2017 Thanks for the memories! Emily 8-13

Shout out to all women!! If you are reading this (and are a woman), chances are you belong to the Women of the Moose at Grand Rapids-Sparta. We are sisters in our fraternity and represent Chapter #111. Our chapter has been around for 100 years(!) and we are now running the RISK of closing. Yes, you read that correctly. After 100, we are no longer having the dame amount of interest in fundraiser volunteering, meeting attendance or participants willing to be board members. Little interest even though we have almost 700 members!? Did you know there are many sub-sections to our lodge [Loyal Order of Moose (Men), Legion, MOB, etc] but ALL WOMEN belong to the Women of the Moose (WOTM)? If we do no fill our board for the upcoming 2017-2018 year, we may all need to transfer our memberships to another nearby Chapter or to All-Heart. This would mean that our history and having a home at our Lodge in Sparta would be gone. We would be displaced and have no voice. Currently, we have a great working relationship with the Men s board. We are harmonious and choose to work together. We want our lodge to be best in class and a great place to spend time with friends and family! I am not sure about anyone else, but I believe that we are ALL (men and women alike) here for the same reason; supporting MooseHeart and MooseHaven, while enjoying all that out lodge provides. Please take a moment to ask yourself what you can give back. If ANYONE is interested in joining our Board for this upcoming season, please reach out to a current Board member. We hold our Women of the Moose meetings on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. on the lower level. Even the smallest amount of time you can give is appreciated. Come on down! Make some new friends and help our Chapter keep running. Some of our members who have been in our Chapter the longest rode in the Sparta Town & Country Day s parade on a float. This summer Betty Eastway ( member for 59 years), Georgia Beardsly (member for 48 years) & Eleanor Apel (member for 46 years) were given the opportunity to represent WOTM Chapter #111 during our 100th year anniversary. Along with these ladies, several others in out chapter joined them: Penny Rowland, Alice Mulligan, Nancy Heiss, Leah Ruitti & Donna Breen dressed as Ms. Moose. We cant forget Asa and Abigail either! :) Speaking of our 100th Anniversary, we are planning a celebration on October 8th at the Lodge. Come on out! There will be raffles, food, fun and excitement. Look for more details at the Lodge and in the weekly email updates as the date nears. One final note is the winner of the raffle for a Women of the Moose lifetime membership! Congratulations to Ann Crum! She will never have to pay her yearly dues again. Keep your eyes open for another one of these raffles soon! Hope everyone got the most of your summer and are ready for the school year to begin. I, for one, want to hold onto summer as long as I can! Cheers! Stacy Vasher Junior Grad Regent Sunshine Lady Hello my name is Georgia Beardsley and I am your Sunshine Lady. Please contact me at 616-887-8578 if you know of any members who might be under the weather, having surgery, etc.

Between working nights and days in July I forgot to get the MOB article in July s Echo. So we will take care of it in August, sorry about the delay. The annual MOB Run for Hospice Pediatrics started out cloudy but turned out to be a great day. We want to thank all that helped with registration, raffles, music, tent set up and take down. Without all the help it would not have been possible. Many hands make light work. Special thanks to the Algoma Fire Fighters for putting in a super breakfast. Teresa Rholoff, her Hospice servers and granddaughters for waiting on all. The band Glove Box for entertaining for the evening. Sages Catering for dinner, and last but not least the bartenders for taking care of refreshments. Congratulations to all the silent auction winners and to Roger Donavan, winner of the grill raffle! Thank you all for the donations and support for a great cause, Hospice Pediatrics. Save the date! August 27th the annual MS Run out of the Bow Tie. Hope to see you there. Until next month, ride safe, MOB President, Pat Morgan
