A dual mission... Community causes and Aid for Wounded Warriors Your sponsorship will help us support our goals for the upcoming year Local charities from Arlington to Fredericksburg, VA Cancer & Disease Patients Support encompasses help for local leukemia/ lymphoma patients and families, as well as donations to societies that research for cures, such as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. We let families know that they have non-medical support available to help them with the challenges they face. Food & Shelter for Those in Need Support includes four facilities in our community House of Mercy, ACTS, SERVE, and The Carpenter s Shelter. We also partner with local companies such as Wegman s to provide food, gift certificates or special needs donations. Special Olympics of Northern Virginia Special Olympics has been a long-time recipient of support from Azalea Charities. Since 1999, we have provided financial support as well Golf Events for these athletes. We sponsored two local golfers who won gold and silver medals in the June, 2011 Special Olympic World Summer Games in Athens, Greece. We also helped over 2600 athletes enjoy sports like skiing, basketball, bowling, cheerleading, soccer and more. We are grateful to our friends at Azalea Charities for their years of support. Sports is the vehicle that we use to show the public the capabilities of people with intellectual disabilities, breaking down barriers and making our communities more inclusive. Roy Zeidman, Senior Vice President Special Olympics Virginia Aid for Wounded Warriors Home for a Hero In 2003 at age 20, Army Reservist Jay Briseno was shot in the back of his head in Baghdad. Jay sacrificed his ability to walk, talk, see or eat and is totally dependent upon his parents, Joe and Eva. Azalea Charities has committed over $100,000 to provide a home for the Briseno family that meets their needs for Jay s long-term care. The Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center The Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center is a place where individuals with special challenges come together, and where victories some dramatic, some modest, but all significant are joyously celebrated. Azalea Charities supports a new program at the Center that uses horses to help wounded warriors deal with their disabilities. Support for Wounded Warriors and Their Families Through Aid for Wounded Warriors, Azalea Charities provides help for our service people and the families who stand behind them. Support is adapted to the need ranging from mortgage and rent payments, utility payments, gas cards and Wal-Mart cards to special needs such as the training of service dogs and provision of services to caregiving families. Azalea provides day-to-day support for these heroes in ways that address their lifetime needs. As a proud supporter of Azalea Charities and its Aid for Wounded Warriors program, I can personally say that I have never seen such committed benevolence from a charitable organization determined to change people s lives. Azalea s dedication to our country s veterans is astounding and inspiring, and Chenega will assist in the fulfillment of the Azalea mission for years to come. John A. Campagna, President MIOS SBU, Chenega Corporation At a glance... An all-volunteer organization Azalea Charities is made up of 100% volunteers who donate their time and talents because they believe in the mission of Azalea Charities. Beyond minimal expenses, all the funds we raise go to charitable causes. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we work with a volunteer board of men and women, 11 officers and a membership of dedicated people within our local communities and around the world. Many of our directors and members are retired from the military, which explains our international commitment to Aid for Wounded Warriors. Azalea Charities is based in Prince William County, VA, cementing our service to causes from Arlington to Fredericksburg, VA. A history of helping worthy causes The idea for Azalea Charities originated with Frank Lasch and Larry Pergerson, who organized a telethon in October 1997 to benefit the Girl Scouts, Boys & Girls Clubs, local homeless shelters and other community groups. The next spring, Lasch and Pergerson organized a charity golf tournament on a golf course resplendent with azaleas in bloom. The Azalea Classic Pro-Am Invitational Golf Classic was inaugurated in April 1999, with the support of two major sponsors, developer Dean Morehouse and banker Gary Martin. This tournament has been a cornerstone of Azalea Charities fund-raising efforts ever since. In June 2004, Azalea Charities began Aid for Wounded Warriors. This effort has gained worldwide attention through international contributors and cooperation with charitable organizations in other countries. www.azaleacharities.com 52704 Chartered January 19, 2000 IRS Tax No. 54-1973354 -501 (c) 3
