So what exactly is Segway Polo? We all know that Polo in its many forms originally started life where riders on horseback, armed with mallet and trusty steed battled it out on the field of play. Players on the two opposing teams hit a ball with their mallets, trying to get the ball into the other team s goal... Legend has it, in India in the 1860 s instead of a ball being the object of play, the heads of defeated enemies were used. Much has changed in the modern game of polo since then and many variations can be found around the World, none better or more exhilarating than SEGWAY POLO, in which each player rides the technological marvel that is a Segway Personal Transporter on the field of play. The rules have been adapted from horse polo, and indeed many horse polo enthusiasts, competitors and sportsmen and women from around the world have become hooked on this new game that is Segway Polo. The format of the Segway Polo & Games Event consists of a Meet & Greet at the chosen venue 20 minutes before the commencement of the event. SAMPLE PROGRAMME 1. Health & Safety induction including Segway Code of Operation for all participants. 2. Read, Accept Terms and Sign Liability Waiver Agreement for all participants. 3. Introduction and beginner training on Segway for all participants. 4. Segway Riding Practice & Segway Frisbee games. 5. Segway Nerf-Gun Jousting - The Nerf Guns are one-hand use, battery operated repeaters guns that shoot soft foam Velcro-tipped ammunition. Sometimes this game goes on and on and on This fun element of the activity assists participants to learn to ride Segway s solo without even thinking about riding Segway s. 6. After the Segway Nerf-Gun Battle, the participants are ready for anything including the highlight of their event - Segway Polo!! 7. Segway Polo Rules are explained & the first round Segway Polo kicks off. 8. Meanwhile, the other teams are being trained and are undergoing rider practice, Nerf-gun jousting & preparation for their turn learning and playing Segway Polo. 9. Segway Polo Games are played with strict codes of conduct, under the expert tutulage of our instructor to help participants to master the skills and tactics of this fast paced game. 10. Subsequent Games are played and as the competition heats up in the lead-up to the grand finale, Champions are crowned, whilst runners-up commiserate and contemplate the inevitable verbal onslaught, then bow to their victors and commit substantial funds to the Champions entertainment fund later in the evening. 11. At this point, The Victors may choose to punish and soak their defeated adversaries by engaging in an all-out single-handed Segway Water Blaster Battle using their newly acquired water blasters. or maybe the tables will turn and victory will be snatched from the mouth of defeat!!! It s all to play for!!! 12. Wet & weary our worn-out warriors wave goodbye to an amazing fun-filled Segway Experience. The facility, located in the student campus at Corrib Village, is used by the student population and external bookings throughout the year and remains in prime condition. In fact it improves it as the Segway wheels bring the rubber balls to the surface and saves us a maintenance call.
