Volunteering Volunteering: The Vision The BUCS Football Volunteering and Leadership programme aims to help young people to be the best leader, coach, referee or administrator they can be. To enhance the skills of those students who are interested not only in playing the game but putting something back in to the game. Football Volunteers Sport relies on 1.5 million volunteer officials, coaches, managers and administrators - competitive sport cannot exist without volunteers. They are the people that make sport happen and are generally forgotten about. Many students are not rewarded for volunteer work Pathways for students to engage as volunteers in sport, notably football, can be limited. Step into Sport is designed to tackle this breaking down any barriers and rewarding students for the work that they carry out. FA Step Into Sport The FA Step into Sport Programme (14-19) highlights the high number of young people that engage in football volunteering and encourages them to transfer their skills into everyday life It is the aim of BUCS Football Development to replicate this programme throughout the HE sector creating a number of student volunteers and leaders in universities that can drive football development in their own institutions and the local community. 2

BUCS Step Into Sport The BUCS Football Development Step into Sport Programme is designed to increase the potential for students to participate in volunteering and leadership through football. An increased number of volunteers will enhance the development of football in the HE sector Dedicated student volunteers will be assisted by their universities to create pathways to carry out volunteering work in the community. BUCS Step Into Sport The Step into Sport Programme provides a simple framework of coordinated opportunities to increase the potential for students to participate in volunteering and leadership through sport. The programme involves Universities working with local FA s, County Sports Partnerships, FA Charter Standard Clubs or other suitable agencies, to develop student skills in a number of areas. BUCS Step into Sport The BUCS Step into Sport Programme will: Create a network of skilled student volunteers Create a student volunteer workforce to assist with football development in each university. Create a legacy of student volunteering in all universities Encourage students to take their skills and talents into the local community Create a cost effective way for universities to enhance football development BUCS Step Into Sport Rewarding students for their voluntary involvement in the development Football and Futsal. The following are examples of how students can get involved: Coaching / Team Management Refereeing BUCS Team Administration Club Development / Community FACS Clubs / Schools Futsal Development Intra Mural / Tournament and Event Organisation Disability Football 3
