Competition Competing is a privilege that must be earned. The number one goal for Oviedo Cheerleaders is to provide support for Oviedo High School athletics and promote school spirit within the community. As long as Oviedo High School continues to meet the requirements set by the Seminole County District Cheer Committee and under the permission of the administration, the Oviedo High School competition squad will compete for the 2018-2019 season. The girls may compete in up to 5 competitions. The final competition squad will not be determined until October, in correlation to the FHSAA start date. In addition, not all Varsity cheerleaders are guaranteed a spot on the competition squad. New this year, all girls will try out for a spot on the competitive team. The people that make competition will not cheer at basketball games. Instead, all people not on competitive will be on a game squad. Current varsity cheerleaders will be placed on the Varsity squad, the JV and Freshman squad will be considered for one of the squads. Seminole County s Cheerleading Pledge As cheerleaders and representatives of all students in Seminole County, Florida and Oviedo High School, we dedicate our abilities and we pledge our efforts to generate unity, to promote enthusiasm, to instill school spirit, and to demonstrate good sportsmanship in Oviedo High School s community and among all institutions with whom we interact.

General Cheerleading Rules 1. All cheerleading related events are mandatory when scheduled by the coach. Only the coach can make changes to the schedule. A schedule will be available in advance for practices, games and events. Additional practices may be added to the schedule. 2. Participation in OHS cheerleading is a priority! If any cheerleader would like to participate in another sport at Oviedo High School, the cheer coach, coach of the additional sport and the cheerleader must be in full agreement of obligations and time commitments. This arrangement must be made in advance. Success and consistency is something we want all students and activities at OHS to have. Cheerleading is the longest sport in the county. 3. You are NOT PERMITTED to miss any practices, games or events due to an extracurricular or academics club unless previous arrangements have been made. Absolutely NO practices, games, or events may be missed due to an all-star squad! OHS cheerleading comes before any all-star squad. NO EXCEPTIONS! a. Appointments, errands and club meetings are not an excuse to miss or be late to practices or games. Only special exceptions will be made. b. You will be given a calendar at the post tryout meeting that has all the dates (except basketball) that are set in stone look at calendar prior to making appointments!!!! 4. Attendance: a. All cheerleaders must be in adherence to the school s attendance policy. For example, a cheerleader with 10 or more unexcused absences may be removed from the team. b. All cheerleaders are expected to be present for a majority of the day in order to cheer in the game. c. Cheerleaders MUST notify the coach of an absence before the scheduled time of practice or game otherwise the absence is unexcused. FYI, a 2:20pm notification does not count as ample notice. 5. If a cheerleader is benched for any reason, he/she is required to attend the event in full uniform and sit with the coach through the entirety of the event. If a cheerleader is injured, she must wear her uniform and sit with the squad. If for some reason, she/he is unable to wear uniform then she/he must be in cheerleading shirt and bottom designated by the coach. 6. When a cheerleader is required to wear their uniform on a scheduled day they MUST be in FULL UNIFORM: designated uniform, cheer shoes, socks, no show sports bra, bloomers, bow. Reminder: no jewelry or gum at games or practice per FHSAA guidelines. 7. Any time that a cheerleader is in their OHS uniform, they are to be respectful and mature. There is absolutely no foul language, disrespect to teachers and/or other students or inappropriate displays of affection. 8. Cheerleaders are required to replace all lost and/or damaged OHS uniforms and/or property. 9. Coaches reserve the right to ask for academic progress reports from cheerleaders at any time. 10. Any cheerleader that quits will be unable to try out for the next season. 11. All cheerleaders must abide by the Seminole County Code of Conduct and the Seminole County Citizenship Policy. Oviedo High School s administration and the head coach reserves the right to any actions resulting from discipline related offenses. 14. Conduct detrimental to the team will not be tolerated.
