What Memphis Elite is Nationally known for The most obvious way we help the athletes in our program is by bettering their skills and helping them reach their athletic potential; however, we believe that our program serves an even higher purpose. Memphis Elite's primary goal is to teach growing athletes and develop young adults by utilizing the function of the team atmosphere, which better prepares them for the typical roles within the professional world. The life lessons derived through developmental sports are embodied in the curriculum, which has been developed and applied by our world-renowned coaching staff. While we believe that our athletes ability to tumble, stunt and execute jumps will afford them the opportunity to pursue positions with college cheer programs; it is the intangible qualities of understanding teamwork, utilizing personal accountability and maintaining a high level of expectation that will guide them through the successes of life. Although there is no shortage of medals, banners and trophies filling our facility, the goal of our staff is to provide our athletes with experiences and memories which will last a lifetime. 2013-2014 Nationally Ranked Teams Tiny Tigers Mighty Minis Youth Crew True Blue Jr Reign Jr Mafia Sr Legacy Black Smack Five-o Shooting Stars Jr Prep Some of our Mighty Minis in the University of Memphis Homecoming Parade with our U of M Big Brothers and Sisters 2
2 1 What is All Star Cheerleading? All Star cheerleading is a great way for young athletes to learn new skills while building teamwork, goal-setting, sportsmanship, and numerous other social skills while making lifelong friendships The sport of All Star Cheerleading has grown immensely from it roots over 20 years ago. In the 80s and early 90s, teams were typically formed of athletes who were interested in improving their skills so that they would stand a better chance of making their high school or college cheerleading teams. As the sport developed and grew, more and more athletes and their parents viewed All Star Cheerleading as a viable activity in and of itself. As stronger athletes began to recognize that All Star provided them a way to focus more on teamwork and athleticism and less on pon poms and decorating lockers, the sport began to separate itself from the traditional stereotypes. This is no longer your mother s cheerleading. Teams and athletes in All Star now focus on gymnastic and acrobatic moves. The hybrid sport of today is a combination of gymnastics, acrobatics, athletic dance, and many elements unique to All Star. More extreme athlete than fashion model, today s All Star athlete can learn exciting skills in a fun, safe environment. All Star teams are typically comprised of 15-32 athletes with a variety of skills and abilities (much like a football or basketball team.) There can be solid, well-rounded athletes and those who have particularly strong abilities in certain areas (ex. - strong dancers or jumpers). The coaches create a competition routine performed by the group that has elements of tumbling, stunting, jumping, dance, and other skills set to music. The routines are typically 2 1/2 minutes in length. At competitions, the teams are divided by age and ability level. Their level of difficulty, precision, creativity, and entertainment value are evaluated and judged based on these criteria. There are thousands of All Star programs of all types across the country. While not every program is a perfect fit for every athlete, we believe that we have a solid program that is the right choice for everyone from the brand-new beginning athlete to the ultra-elite veteran. Regardless of the gym you choose, All Star cheerleading is a great way for young athletes to learn new skills while building teamwork, goal setting, sportsmanship, and numerous other social skills while making lifelong friendships. 3
Evaluations After the final date of evaluations, the coaches will meet extensively to form the rosters for the upcoming season. The staff will work together to form teams that each has the best possible chance of a successful competitive season. We will take into count the athletes tumbling skills, tumbling execution, stunting, jumps, age, experience and maturity. Once the teams are formed, we will post the teams and/or the coaches will contact you personally. While we anticipate having a similar number of teams and similar divisions as the past season, we cannot determine that until after the evaluations are competed. A Flyer Evaluation will be held for athletes that would like to be considered as a flyer for the upcoming season. Flyers will be asked to show experience, flexibility and potential ability to grasp the necessary concepts of the flyer position. Memphis Elite guarantees a team for everyone who attends evaluations. We offer teams from the prep level (lower level team that attends local competitions) to nationally competitive All Star levels. No team is guaranteed until the athletes are evaluated.
