It will mark the fourth-consecutive season the Bills have visited Kansas City. The Chiefs won the matchup between the old AFL rivals in thrilling fashion a year ago as K Ryan Succop made a gamewinning fi eld goal as time expired in overtime to give Kansas City a 13-10 victory. The Chiefs have numerous tributes planned for the 10-year anniversary of 9/11. The 2010 season marked a turning point for the Chiefs franchise as Head Coach Todd Haley s squad turned in a 10-6 record after a 4-12 performance in 2009. It marked the best single-season turnaround in franchise history. The Chiefs won the AFC West Championship and earned a home playoff game for the fi rst time since 2003. Chan Gailey enters his second season as the head coach with Buffalo in 2011. The Bills fi nished the 2010 season with a 4-12 record, winning two of their fi nal four games. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick led the Bills offense with 3,000 passing yards while CB Drayton Florence had three interceptions. Kansas City ranked in the NFL s top 10 in 10 different categories at the end of the 2010 season. The Chiefs won the league s rushing title, registering 2,627 rushing yards. At home in 2010, the Chiefs gained a league-high 1,463 rushing yards, the third-highest mark in franchise annals. The Chiefs fi nished 11th in the NFL a year ago, allowing 326 total points. Kansas City only allowed its opponents to score on 28.1% of their offensive drives, the seventh-lowest mark in the NFL. CB Brandon Flowers, LB Derrick Johnson and S Eric Berry each returned an interception for a touchdown, the fi rst time the club returned three interceptions for scores since 2003. QB Matt Cassel begins his third season at the helm of the offense after garnering a Pro Bowl invite a year ago. RB Jamaal Charles fi nished second in the NFL in 2010 with 1,467 rushing yards to earn his fi rst Pro Bowl invite. WR Dwayne Bowe caught a league-high 15 TDs and was elected to his initial Pro Bowl. On defense, Johnson paced the club with a career-high 147 tackles. Kansas City travels to Detroit on Sunday, Sept. 18 for a road contest with the Lions. In its home opener, Buffalo hosts Oakland on Sept. 18. 2010 CHIEFS FINAL TEAM STATS AND RANKINGS The Chiefs have posted an 18-23-1 (.440) record in regular and postseason play against Buffalo, including a 17-21-1 (.449) mark in regular season games. Kansas City posted a 13-10 overtime victory vs. Buffalo (10/31/10) in the last matchup between the two clubs. 2010 KANSAS CITY CHIEFS ADDITIONAL STATISTICS FINAL REGULAR AND POSTSEASON

GAME 1 Chiefs 21, Chargers 14 September 13, 2010 Arrowhead Stadium 71,297 SAN DIEGO.......... 7 0 7 0 14 KANSAS CITY........ 7 14 0 0 21 An electrified crowd of 71,297 celebrated the grand opening of the New Arrowhead as the Chiefs downed the Chargers 21-14 on Monday Night Football. It came down to fourth-and-goal from the four-yard line as San Diego QB Philip Rivers took the snap out of the shotgun looking to tie the game. Rivers scrambled in the backfield looking for an open body, but pressure from the Chiefs defensive line forced an incomplete pass, turning the ball over on downs and sealing the Chiefs first win at the New Arrowhead. All three phases of football began clicking for the Chiefs as big plays were made on offense, defense and special teams. The Chargers were first on the board after Rivers led his team on a nine-play, 60-yard drive culminating with a TD pass to TE Antonio Gates from three yards out to take a 7-0 lead with 1:56 left in the first quarter. The Chiefs answered quickly when RB Jamaal Charles took a handoff to the left side of the line, found a gap and raced 56 yards into the end zone to tie the game at 7-7. After exchanging punts, Kansas City LB Derrick Johnson stripped the football from RB Ryan Mathews at the San Diego 28-yard line. CB Brandon Carr scooped up the loose ball and returned it 23 yards to San Diego s 12-yard line. The Chiefs offense took it from there. Three plays later on a play-action pass, QB Matt Cassel found rookie TE Tony Moeaki wide open in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown to give Kansas City its first lead of the game at 14-7 with 5:03 to play in the half. The Chiefs were just getting started. After another defensive stand, P Mike Scifres came on to punt for the Chargers. WR Dexter McCluster caught the ball at the KC six-yard line. On a play that looked broken, McCluster emerged from the pack and a key block from LB Andy Studebaker cleared him for a 94-yard sprint to the end zone, putting the Chiefs up 21-7 at intermission. The Chargers were first to touch the ball in the second half. The teams went punt-for-punt before Rivers and company found stride. First, Rivers found Gates who rumbled for 19 yards to the San Diego 30-yard line. Two plays later, Chargers WR Legedu Naanee was wide open and Rivers hit him for a 59-yard TD pass, cutting the Chiefs lead to 21-14 with 2:33 on the clock in the third. San Diego regained possession after a Kansas City punt. Rivers pass to TE Randy McMichael was good for 20 yards followed by a 23-yard rush by RB Mike Tolbert putting the ball at the Chiefs 44-yard line. On fourth and nine from the KC 32 with just over seven minutes to play the Chargers elected to go for it. Rivers pass slipped through the hands of Naanee turning it over on downs. With 5:03 to play in the contest, Rivers connected with WR Buster Davis for 22 yards and then to WR Malcom Floyd for 22 yards putting the Chargers at the Chiefs 25-yard line at the 2:00 minute warning down by seven. On fourth and three from the KC 16, Rivers connected on a clutch pass to Naanee for 12 yards and a first down, setting the Chargers up with a first-and-goal from the Kansas City four-yard line. Kansas City s defense rose to the occasion. With 0:39 on the clock the Chargers faced a fourth and goal from the four-yard line. With Rivers in shotgun formation, the ball was snapped. Rivers stepped up in the pocket and threw it up but the pass fell incomplete, sealing the Chiefs victory. GAME NOTES The Chiefs registered a franchise single-game record with 160 punt return yards. GAME 2 Chiefs 16, Browns 14 September 19, 2010 Cleveland Browns Stadium 65,377 KANSAS CITY........ 3 7 3 3 16 CLEVELAND......... 0 14 0 0 14 After a back-and-forth first half which saw the Chiefs and Browns exchange scoring drives, the Chiefs defense held the Browns offense scoreless in the second half as Kansas City registered a 16-14 victory at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Head Coach Todd Haley s decision to go for a first down on fourth-and-one with 2:00 remaining in the contest proved pivotal as RB Thomas Jones made the first down, effectively sealing the victory. The key defensive play of the game came when Kansas City CB Brandon Flowers intercepted a QB Seneca Wallace pass and returned it 33 yards to paydirt, giving the Chiefs a 10-7 lead. The Chiefs made the first play of the game when LB Mike Vrabel worked his way into the backfield and brought down RB Jerome Harrison, forcing a fumble in the process that was recovered by DE Glenn Dorsey. After a review, the play stood and the Chiefs took over on the Cleveland 23-yard line. The turnover set up a 35-yard field goal by K Ryan Succop to put Kansas City on top 3-0 with 8:43 left to play in the first quarter. After getting pinned deep in their own territory Cleveland's offense went to work. RB Peyton Hillis picked up 12 yards to give the Browns breathing room. Wallace then connected with WR Mohamed Massaquioi for nine yards, Harrison for 23 yards and TE Benjamin Watson for 44 yards to move the ball to the Kansas City eight-yard line. An illegal contact penalty on third down gave the Browns first-and-goal at the two-yard line. Two plays later Hillis found the end zone on a one-yard dive. The TD gave the Browns a 7-3 lead with 12:31 left to play in the first half. After the Chiefs went three-and-out, the defense rose to the challenge as Flowers intercepted a Wallace pass intended for WR Chansi Stuckey and returned it 33 yards for a TD, putting the Chiefs back on top of the Browns at 10-7 with 10:02 left to play in the first half. The two teams traded knockout punches as Wallace answered the Chiefs defensive TD with a 65-yard TD pass to WR Josh Cribbs to steal the lead back, making it a 14-10 advantage for the Browns with 8:43 left in the first half. An interception by CB Sheldon Brown at the Cleveland 35-yard line gave the ball back to Cleveland, and the teams traded punts following the interception. Pinned inside the 10-yard line, RB Jamaal Charles picked up 20 yards before a ball was tipped at the line of scrimmage and intercepted by DT Ahtyba Rubin. The turnover set up a 42-yard K Phil Dawson FG attempt that was wide left. Faced with third-and-six to open the second half, QB Matt Cassel connected with TE Tony Moeaki for 20 yards for a first down. Lining up for another third-and-six play, Cassel found WR Dwayne Bowe for 17 yards to keep the drive moving. Jones picked up 11 yards to the Cleveland 15-yard line. A 26-yard FG from Succop narrowed the Browns lead to 14-13 with 8:45 left in the third quarter. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Cassel would orchestrate a 14 play, 68-yard drive that would culminate with a 23-yard FG from Succop to give the Chiefs a 16-14 lead with 7:41 left to play in the contest. Kansas City's defense held their own forcing two late-game punts. The Chiefs offense sealed the game on fourth-and-one when Jones leaped over the pile to pick up the first down, allowing the Chiefs to run out the clock on the 16-14 victory. GAME 3 Chiefs 31, 49ers 10 September 26, 2010 Arrowhead Stadium 68,188 SAN FRANCISCO..... 0 3 0 7 10 KANSAS CITY........ 0 10 14 7 31 The Chiefs improved to 3-0 with a convincing 31-10 victory over the 49ers. A combination of big plays, stellar defense and aggressive coaching decisions helped propel the club to victory. The Chiefs rushed for 207 yards, while Kansas City's defense allowed the 49ers only 43 rushing yards. After a scoreless first quarter, the second period of play was much more eventful. On fourth-and-one from the 50, Head Coach Todd Haley fooled the 49ers with a bit of gamesmanship as the punt team sprinted off the field and the offense sprinted on forcing the 49ers to take a timeout. Out of the Wildcat formation RB Dexter McCluster ran around the right side for the first down. The Chiefs drove to San Francisco s 34-yard line before CB Shawntae Spencer intercepted a Chiefs pass. The Chiefs defense got it right back as CB Brandon Flowers picked off his second pass of the season. Flowers interception set the Chiefs up in San Francisco territory at the 31-yard line. The first play following the INT QB Matt Cassel hit McCluster on a short pass to his left side who dashed 31 yards down the sideline and dove into the end zone for the TD giving the Chiefs a 7-0 lead with 11:02 to play in the half. On the ensuing kickoff the Chiefs recovered an unexpected onside kick, but an offsides penalty negated the play. The Chiefs kicked it away and the 49ers took over at their own 22. The 49ers moved into Chiefs territory following a 22-yard completion from QB Alex Smith to WR Michael Crabtree. Four plays later K Joe Nedney put through a 51-yard field goal making it 7-3. McCluster was again a key role in moving the ball as he caught a 15-yard pass from Cassel followed by a 23-yard catch and run putting KC at San Francisco s 23-yard line setting up Succop for a 38-yard attempt. Succop s kick sailed just right of the top of the post leaving the score at 7-3 at the two-minute warning. Following a 49ers punt, Cassel hit Charles on completions of 17 and 18 yards. With 0:07 on the clock Cassel hit TE Tony Moeaki setting up Succop for a 32-yard field goal attempt. Succop s kick split the uprights giving the Chiefs a 10-3 lead at intermission. The 49ers offense was first on the field after the break. The teams went punt for punt before Kansas City broke out an elaborate flea flicker. In the Wildcat formation, Jones took the snap, handed off to McCluster who pitched it to Cassel coming around the other side. Cassel slung the ball 45 yards down the field into the end zone to WR Dwayne Bowe increasing the Chiefs lead to 17-3 with 9:37 to play in the third quarter. On the ensuing possession, LB Tamba Hali sacked Smith on third-and-nine at San Francisco s 31-yard line, his third sack of the day forcing yet another 49ers punt. The Chiefs offense took the field at its own 39-yard line and behind the legs of Jones moved the ball into 49ers territory. On third-and-four from San Francisco s 45 Cassel hit Charles for a 22-yard gain to the 23. Four plays later Cassel fired a laser to Moeaki who made an impressive one-handed grab in the end zone to push the Chiefs lead to 24-3 with 1:41 left in the third quarter. Head Coach Todd Haley turned the ball over to his running backs in the fourth quarter as Jones and Charles combined for 57 yards on a drive that culminated with three-yard TD run from Jones. The Chiefs took a 31-3 lead with 3:27 left to play in the contest. The teams exchanged punts and San Francisco was able to add seven points when Smith connected with WR Josh Morgan as time expired making the final score 31-10. RB Jamaal Charles carried the ball 16 times for 87 yards to lead the ground attack. TE Tony Moeaki led the team with four receptions for 50 yards. Manning led the Colts on a methodical drive that ended in the contest s only TD. Manning went sevenfor-nine on the drive that was capped by an 11-yard TD run from RB Mike Hart putting the Colts on top 19-9 with 4:02 left to play in the game. Jacksonville moved the ball to the Kansas City 19-yard line before CB Brandon Carr was called for defensive pass interference in the end zone, giving the Jaguars first and goal at the one-yard line. However, the Chiefs defense held, forcing the Jaguars to settle for an 18-yard FG to make the score 14-13 at half. On the Chiefs second offensive play of the second half, Cassel hooked up with Bowe for a 53-yard catch and run to put the Chiefs up 21-13 just 37 seconds into the third quarter. GAME 7 Chiefs 13, Bills 10 OT October 31, 2010 Arrowhead Stadium 66,625 BUFFALO................. 0 0 3 7 0 10 KANSAS CITY............. 0 7 0 3 3 13 K Ryan Succop nailed a 35-yard FG attempt as time expired in overtime to give the Chiefs a thrilling 13-10 victory over the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead. Kansas City eclipsed the 200-yard rushing mark for the third straight week behind RBs Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles who racked up 177 rushing yards on 22 attempts. Both teams were forced to punt on their first offensive possessions. The Chiefs then promptly marched into Buffalo territory. On fourth and two from Buffalo s 19-yard line, the Chiefs eschewed a FG try and QB Matt Cassel was sacked by Bills NT Kyle Williams, giving Buffalo the football at their own 20. The teams went punt for punt for the majority of the first half. With 3:54 left to play before intermission Charles tallied 67 yards on a 71-yard TD drive capped when Cassel found WR Dwayne Bowe from one yard out giving KC a 7-0 lead at half. The Bills opened the second half with a 43-yard K Rian Lindell FG cutting KC's lead to 7-3. After the two clubs exchanged punts, the Chiefs then went back to their running game, rushing the ball 10 consecutive times to pick up 54 yards moving them to Buffalo s 11-yard line. Two plays later Succop put through a 28-yard FG, upping the Chiefs lead to 10-3. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and company then proceeded to construct a 15-play, 83-yard drive. Fitzpatrick hit WR Lee Evans for six yards. CB Brandon Flowers jarred the ball loose near the sideline and the fumble was recovered by LB Mike Vrabel. After a Buffalo challenge, the ruling on the field was overturned and Buffalo maintained possession with 4:08 left in the fourth quarter. Faced with fourth and goal from the four-yard line, Fitzpatrick hit WR Steve Johnson on a quick slant for a game-tying TD with 2:18 remaining. The play was challenged by Head Coach Todd Haley, but the call on the field was upheld. The Chiefs began at their own 20-yard line. In the two-minute offense, Kansas City was faced with a fourth and one from its own 29-yard line. The Chiefs appeared to get the first down on a QB sneak by Cassel, but the Chiefs called a timeout before the ball was snapped and eventually elected to punt. WR Roscoe Parrish returned the punt 33 yards to Buffalo s 48-yard line. Four plays into the drive Fitzpatrick s pass sailed over the head of his intended receiver and was picked off by S Eric Berry with 0:32 to play in regulation. Cassel was sacked on the next play and the clock expired sending the game into overtime. After winning the coin toss, Buffalo elected to receive. They Bills were forced to punt on their first possession, but following a Chiefs punt Buffalo had the first opportunity to win the game. Lindell came on to attempt a 53-yard FG and put the kick through the uprights, but Haley had called timeout prior to the snap, forcing Lindell to try again. This time Lindell s line-drive kick hit the right upright, giving the Chiefs new life. The Chiefs sent Succop out for the game winner from 39 yards out on the next possession. Succop s kick into the wind sailed wide left giving Buffalo the ball back. The Chiefs defense again held firm forcing Buffalo to punt. With only 1:20 to play in the overtime period Cassel moved the Chiefs into FG range with an 11-yard pass to TE Tony Moeaki, setting up Succop for a 35-yard field goal attempt with 0:05 remaining on the clock. This time Succop s kick split the uprights as time expired giving the Chiefs a thrilling 13-10 OT victory. GAME NOTES RB Thomas Jones became the first player in NFL history to register a 500-yard rushing season with five different franchises. The Chiefs have registered three straight games with 200 or more rushing yards for the first time since accomplishing the feat in the first three games of the 78 season. After a scoreless first quarter a defensive pass interference call put the Chiefs at the Oakland 14-yard line. On third and two, Cassel hit TE Tony Moeaki for five yards to the Oakland one-yard line. Moeaki s catch was initially ruled a TD, but was challenged by the Raiders. The play was overturned, and QB Matt Cassel ran for an apparent TD on the next play, but a holding penalty moved the ball back to the 11. Cassel hit WR Verran Tucker in the back of the end zone for an 11-yard TD to put the Chiefs up 7-0. LB Derrick Johnson forced a RB Darren McFadden fumble on the Raiders ensuing possession that was recovered by DE Wallace Gilberry at the Oakland 26-yard line. After failing to pick up the first down, Chiefs K Ryan Succop sent a 43-yard FG through the uprights to extend the Chiefs lead to 10-0. CB Javier Arenas appeared to give the Chiefs a 17-0 edge when he returned an Oakland punt for a 72-yard TD, but the play was nullified by an illegal block in the back. Cassel hit Moeaki for 23 yards on a wheel route up the left sideline, pushing the ball to the Kansas City 47-yard line. On third and nine, Cassel connected with WR Terrance Copper for 20 yards. Cassel then found Bowe for nine yards, bringing Succop onto the field for a 41-yard FG attempt. A holding penalty negated the FG and pushed the attempt back to 51 yards. Succop then tried a pooch punt that rolled into the end zone. On the Raiders next play, S Jon McGraw intercepted a QB Jason Campbell pass at the Oakland 45-yard line. The Chiefs had a golden scoring opportunity, but Cassel had a pass tipped into the arms of Raiders CB Jeremy Ware in the end zone. On the second-half kickoff Oakland WR Jacoby Ford scampered for a 94-yard TD, making the score 10-7. Arenas then fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Raiders recovered at the Chiefs 34-yard line. The Chiefs defense held and Janikowski s 47-yard FG attempt went wide left, leaving the Chiefs lead at 10-7. On KC s next possession the Chiefs were able to knock through a Succop 25-yard FG to make the score 13-7 with 9:41 left in the third period. The Raiders answered with seven points of their own. Campbell found T Khalif Barnes, who had reported as a tackle eligible, in the end zone giving Oakland a 14-13 lead. The Raiders were driving again, but the Chiefs forced a 23 yard Janikowski FG to make the count 17-13. The Chiefs went three and out but LB Demorrio Williams forced a fumble on the Oakland punt return that was recovered by Tucker at the Oakland 30-yard line. Facing third and 11, Cassel hit WR Dwayne Bowe in the end zone for a 20-yard TD, giving the Chiefs the 20-17 lead with 6:13 left to play in the fourth quarter. After exchanging punts, Campbell hit Ford for 29 yards and a first down. Oakland spiked the ball and Janikowski kicked a 42-yard FG to tie the game at 20-20. Kansas City got the ball to start overtime but went three and out, giving Oakland the ball at its own 38-yard line. On Oakland s first play, Campbell hit Ford for a 47-yard gain to the Kansas City 15. Janikowski s 33-yard field goal attempt split the uprights giving Oakland the 23-20 win. WR Dwayne Bowe finished the game with a careerhigh 13 catches for 186 yards and two TDs. Denver won the toss and on the Broncos fourth play from scrimmage QB Kyle Orton hit WR Brandon Lloyd between two Chiefs defenders for a 37-yard pickup to KC s 31. On second and 10 from the Chiefs 17-yard line Orton hit RB Knowshon Moreno out of the backfield who scampered into the end zone, giving Denver an early 7-0 lead. The Broncos added 14 more points before the end of the first quarter with two TD passes by Orton. The first went to WR Brandon Lloyd on a quick slant and the second a 40-yard pass to an outstretched Gaffney for a TD. The Chiefs elected to review the play, but the instant replay system was inoperable so the ruling on the field of a TD stood, giving the Broncos a 21-0 lead. The Chiefs offense got into a groove, but a sack by LB Mario Haggan forced KC to attempt a 52-yard FG from K Ryan Succop that sailed wide right. Eight plays later QB Tim Tebow bootlegged into the end zone from one-yard out advancing Denver s lead to 28-0. KC s offense drove to Denver s eight-yard line on its ensuing possession before Cassel was sacked by Haggan and stripped of the football. LB Jason Hunter recovered the ball and took it 75 yards for a TD, moving Denver s lead to 35-0. Kansas City s offense put together a late scoring drive near the end of the half set up by a 38-yard pass to WR Verran Tucker. The Chiefs put together a quick scoring drive capped when Cassel hit Bowe for a 15-yard TD pass, putting the score at 42-17. The Broncos answered right back with a TD of their own when Orton connected with Lloyd in the corner of the end zone from 15 yards out, but it was ruled incomplete. Faced with fourth and goal from the 11-yard line Cassel hit WR Chris Chambers on a post route but failed to convert a two-point attempt making the score 49-23 Denver. The Chiefs defense limited Denver to 86 net passing yards and held the Broncos to three of 12 (25.0%) on third downs, permitting only 247 yards of total offense. The Chiefs held Denver to just six points, the fewest permitted against the Broncos since '71. KC posted 359 yards of total offense and dominated time of possession (37:14 to 22:46). Denver won the toss and elected to receive. Kansas City's defense set the tone with a key stop in its own territory when S Eric Berry broke up a deep third down pass ending Denver's scoring threat. KC regained possession following Denver s second punt of the afternoon. Kansas City moved into Broncos territory when QB Matt Cassel connected with WR Dexter McCluster for a 19-yard pickup to Denver s 34-yard line. Three plays later Cassel hit RB Thomas Jones, who scampered 20 yards to the Broncos fiveyard line. Cassel then fired a pass to the back of the end zone caught by TE Leonard Pope for a two-yard TD capping an 11-play, 70-yard drive giving Kansas City an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The Chiefs defense did force a pair of takeaways as S Eric Berry registered an INT and LB Tamba Hali produced a sack and strip, but Kansas City was unable to convert either of those opportunities into points. Kansas City won the toss and elected to receive. QB Brodie Croyle made his first start since Opening Day of the 2009 campaign, replacing QB Matt Cassel, who underwent an appendectomy early in the week. On third and one QB Philip Rivers handed off to WR Vincent Jackson on an end around for 14 yards into Chiefs territory. A four-yard scramble on third and two gave the Chargers a fresh set of downs at KC s 32. Rivers connected with Jackson for 10 yards on third down, moving the chains once again. The very next play Rivers found WR Malcom Floyd on a fade in the back corner of the end zone for a 17-yard TD pass to give the Chargers a 7-0 lead with 5:39 remaining in the opening quarter. Both teams went punt for punt before the Chargers constructed another scoring march. RB Mike Tolbert took a handoff around the left side into the end zone advancing the Chargers lead to 14-0. After a Kansas City punt the Chargers drove into Chiefs territory and an 18-yard gain from RB Darren Sproles moved the Chargers to the KC nine. On the next play Rivers hit Floyd in the corner of the end zone for a nine-yard TD. The catch went under review and the call on the field was upheld, putting the Chargers in front by a 21-0 margin. Kansas City s defense again came up big when Hali sacked Rivers, forcing a fumble recovered by DE Wallace Gilberry at the Chargers 37. Chargers CB Antoine Cason returned a Chiefs punt down the sideline 42 yard to the KC 36. The Chiefs challenged the player stepping out of bounds, but the ruling on the field stood and the San Diego took over in KC territory. Sproles rumbled up the middle for 15 yards to the KC 17. Four plays later RB Ryan Mathews scored on a 15-yard TD run, giving the Chargers a 31-0 lead with 3:23 to play.
