I'm not sure if its just me but the months are passing by quickly. In just a couple of weeks we will be setting our clocks ahead. I'm sure looking forward to that! Things are running pretty smoothly here in the Canteen. We have a few things going on behind the scenes. Some of you have probably already noticed we have added some new items to our Taco Wednesday menu and don't forget we now serve them until 8pm! Also, John, Tina and myself are working on a revamp of our menu. Its been a year since I put our current menu together, so be looking forward to that. We have added some new items and done some price changes as well. It sure has been nice having Tina and John working together in our kitchen. I want to thank them both for all of the reorganizing of space and great team work, in the back of the house. You're both appreciated greatly! This month we have three events at the post. The first will be a BBQ hosted by our DWMC on Saturday March 12th at 12pm. They are celebrating their second year of being a MC. Come by and give them some support. Our second event is our St. Patrick's Day dinner. The dinner will be on Thursday the 17th at 5pm we will be serving the traditional Corned beef and Cabbage dinner. So mark your calendars and don't miss out... Thirdly we be having our Easter Brunch on the 27th from 10am-2pm. If you missed last years, you wont want to miss another. Lots of great food to choose from and great fun too! And please don't forget about our Queen Of Hearts raffle every Sunday, the drawing is at 6pm tickets and are only $1.00. The jackpot at the time of this being printed / sent out, is nearly $5000.00!!! I'm sure we could all use that, right?? And lastly I would like to ask if you aren't feeling well please at stay home.. We have had a lot of our members and volunteers down with an illness and as much as we love seeing you all. We don't want your sickness! We have members with compromised immune systems and what seems no biggie to you can put them in the hospital, so please stop and think of others. I'm continually bleaching all doors, table surfaces, pretty much anything I see that gets touched. So I'm trying to do our part of germ control, please do yours... In closing I wish you all a safe, HEALTHY and wonderful month! Hope to see you all very soon! Michelle Rex Nancy from our VFW Auxiliary would like to be informed when we have Vets at Peacehealth hospital so she can check in on them while at work. She can be reached at 360-600-0080 Thank you Nancy! FENDER SKIRTS AND RAT FINKS Part 2.. 'Coast to coast' is a phrase that once held all sorts of excitement and now means almost nothing. Now we take the term 'world wide' for granted. This floors me. On a smaller scale, 'wall-to-wall' was once a magical term in our homes. In the '50s, everyone covered his or her hardwood floors with, wow, wall-to-wall carpeting! Today, everyone replaces their wall-towall carpeting with hardwood floors. Go figure. When was the last time you heard the quaint phrase 'in a family way?' It's hard to imagine that the word 'pregnant' was once considered a little too graphic, a little too clinical for use in polite company, so we had all that talk about stork visits and 'being in a family way' or simply 'expecting.' Apparently 'brassiere' is a word no longer in usage. I said it the other day and my daughter cracked up. I guess it's just 'bra' now. 'Unmentionables' probably wouldn't be understood at all. I always loved going to the 'picture show,' but I considered 'movie' an affectation. Most of these words go back to the '50s, but here's a pure '60s word I came across the other day 'rat fink.' Ooh, what a nasty put-down! Here's a word I miss - 'percolator.' That was just a fun word to say. And what was it replaced with 'Coffee maker.' How dull... Mr. Coffee, I blame you for this. I miss those made-up marketing words that were meant to sound so modern and now sound so retro. Words like 'DynaFlow' and 'Electrolux.' Introducing the 1963 Admiral TV, now with 'SpectraVision!' Food for thought. Was there a telethon that wiped out lumbago? Nobody complains of that anymore. Maybe that's what Castor oil cured, because I never hear mothers threatening kids with Castor oil anymore. Some words aren't gone, but are definitely on the endangered list. The one that grieves me most is 'supper.' Now everybody says 'dinner.' Save a great word. Invite someone to supper. Discuss fender skirts.

Commander Jim V presenting Herb Lavin with his 50-Year award with the VFW. Fellow Comrades First Round of officer nominations for 2016-17 year are now upon us. Over the last several years. We've had a few comrades who have done more than their fair share of running our post. It time to consider new comrades to step up and take their place. The old Status Quo of keeping the same people as officers can't continue. Our post has members who have been with us for awhile. And it is time to consider them as up and coming leaders in the post. So with that said. I would like to encourage any and all post comrades to consider becoming a officer, whether elected or appointed. District 6 is also in need of officers as well. District elections will be held on April 17 meeting at the 40 Et 8 at 1200 hrs. VFW 7824 Scuttlebutt 400 N Andresen Rd Vancouver, WA 98661 USA PLACE POSTAGE HERE The Back Page with Nelson Hey everyone, how is your year progressing? Outside of a little bout with bronchitis, I m not doing too bad As you have probably read in a couple of our officers posts, first round of nominations are coming up this month. Maybe it s time you gave some thought to getting involved with your post and consider running for an office. Jr. Vice Commander and Sr. Vice Commander would be good starting positions, that way you can observe the Commander and/or Quartermaster, see what those jobs entail, and consider those positions in the future. Have you joined in with any of the events going on at your post? We had a great turnout for the Valentine s Day dance and dinner. This month we have St. Patrick s Day dinner on the 17th, good old fashioned Corned Beef and Cabbage. Speaking of food, have you had one of those Philly Cheese Steaks that John has been serving up every other Sunday?? If you haven t, you are really missing out. They are GREAT!! Well, as always I hope you all have a great month. Until April, continue to watch the post website and calendar for upcoming events. Stay safe...
