WALES 6-A-SIDE MINIFOOTBALL TEAM LICENCE 2016 INFORMATION PACK
OVERVIEW In 2013 the United Kingdom Minifootball Association was granted the exclusive licence to operate the official Wales 6-a-side football team in European competitions by the European Commission approved body, the European Minifootball Federation. Minifootball is the European term for all forms of 5, 6 and 7-a-side football. The United Kingdom Minifootball Association (UKMA) sent the Wales 6-a-side football team to compete in the 2013 European 6-a-side Championships in Greece, 2014 in Montenegro and a team to compete in the 2015 European 6-a-side Championships in Croatia in September 2015. The UKMA has taken an executive decision to offer the complete running of the Wales 6-a-side football team, with full rights to participate in European competitions, to a licensee. Page 1

WHO ARE THE EMF AND THE UKMA? In 2012 the European Commission declared that small-sided football was classed as a separate sport to the 11-a-side game thereby requiring a different governing body. The European Minifootball Federation (EMF) was set up by Razvan Burleanu who is the current President of both the EMF and the Romanian FA, and Filip Juda, the current President of the Czech Minifootball Association and the World Minifootball Association. The EMF invited organisations from the UK to bid for the licence to be the exclusive operators of the England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland 6-a-side football teams in European competitions. The UKMA bid for this licence and won the exclusivity until 2017 to operate the official England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland national 6-a-side teams. The UKMA is currently applying to the Government to be formally recognised in the UK as it is in Europe, as the official governing body for small-sided football in the UK. Page 3
