All were in favor. Jim discussed that the Tournament Director Position is still vacant. This is a position that needs to be filled in order to schedule potential tournaments. The Board also discussed that we will not host a tournament during the winter school break due to lack of interest from other hockey associations and also because of the dates. Ice time will not be available during the winter break for the SMYHA during that time due to JV hockey tournament. The Board discussed getting a tournament scheduled during the Martin Luther King holiday. Board Member Reports President s Report (Jim Farrenkopf) MEAHA new fees and penalties for pulling teams this year. North and South Divisions? Change play-ins for state tournament. Tier IV loss of games with Biddeford in 15-16 season. Casco Bay has not committed to playing our Tier IV teams. The association may need to look to playing other teams or a different 1

division. Beth raised the point that as we may look to change divisions we need to consider travel distance/time for families in the Tier IV program and what is best for them. New President, VP 1 and VP2 for MEAHA. Open Tier II and III Directors? Summer Learn To Play Program have 3 coaches willing to help out (Justin Rice, Lance Allaire, and Baratta). Ice is secured for this program Ice is secured for power skating clinic. Tier II U18 Midgets 17 registered. Practice schedule ice is taken care. Girls U19 Tier IV team will be up and running shortly. Registration is open but link has not been sent out yet. Breakers pre-season clinic ice is scheduled. It will now be Tuesday nights for the September schedule. Jim has a meeting with Vinnie in July for finalizing ice for the season. Jim is looking into what can be done to avoid scheduling ice no earlier than 7am on Saturdays. SMYHA is the only program that begins before 7am. We will still get 6:50-3:50 slot on Saturdays. Sundays will run from 8:40-3? The only conflict on weekends is when USM womens or mens teams have home games. Ice Biddeford is no longer an option for ice time. Jim met with Biddeford in January but Biddeford could not make plans until June. Jim reached out to OA about potential ice. OA was receptive. In April, no word from Biddeford or OA. Once Ace was elected in as VP, he was negotiating ice. Biddeford notified Jim that BIA will not be providing ice for SMYHA. Gear/box needs to be picked up from Biddeford. OA is closed; no ice available. UNE does not sell ice during the week. Ace secured ice at Portland (Troubh Arena). USM will not give us any more ice time. Falmouth Ice Arena does not have enough ice. Portland Ice Arena (Troubh) Monday 7:20 and 8:30; 8:00 on Wed. nights, and Sundays 8:50, 10, 11:10 and 12:20. 8 skill sessions will be scattered throughout the season. Beth discussed the importance of the Board voting on any changes to Breakers teams. There may be a few spots on the Tier III squirt teams. It was discussed having an open skate to fill those positions. Vice President s Report (Ace Malette) Ace reported on negotiating ice times with various rinks. Treasurer s Report (John Sawyer) John reported that 73K in Breakers and 16K in Huskies account. Jerseys 8 sets of breakers jerseys and only 3 sets of Huskies jerseys. Need to reach out to parents that may have players that are no longer playing to increase inventory. SMYHA got a notice that the organization failed to file the taxes and received a $300 fine. John complained to IRS looking to waive fee as the paperwork was filed prior to deadline. Rhonda made motion to accept the Treasurer s report. Jim seconded motion. Registrar s Report (Jenny Jasa) Learn to play - $50 fee. 12 are currently registered. Breakers registrations 41 families using payment plan. Midgets Tier IV only 6 families have registered. Girls U19 2

Midget Tier II needs to get roster approved. Pre-Season Breakers only 8 players registered so far. Tier IV registration need to find out budget for next year. Nate said it will be important for early registration for ordering jerseys. Directors Reports Communication Director s Report (Beth Richards) Beth sent out an email about registrations for Learn to Play and for Power Skating clinics. Parent made suggestions about organization of SMYHA website. The suggestion was made to have a Huskies and Breakers logo for players to click on to link to appropriate sites - to make it easier for families to navigate the site. Ace discussed moving towards one name for the entire organization. Jim said that MEAHA does not recognize the Breakers name. We are the only association with 2 names for Tier II/III and Tier IV teams. Jim reported that President of MEAHA wants our organization to only fall under 1 name. Our charter with MEAHA is with SMYHA. (see New Business) Breakers Director s Report (Rhonda Sawyer) Rhonda discussed using Hockey Bob to ordering the practice jerseys and socks. Still need to order socks and practice jerseys for Breakers. Game jerseys, hats, and jackets have already been ordered with Hockey Bob. Jim discussed staying with him for the season and looking towards other options for next season. Rhonda will check with Denise Goodrich to see what was contracted with Hockey Bob. Breakers Coaching Director s Report (Brian Casserly) Brian talked to Tier II and Tier III coaches. Brian told them that no decisions should be made on assistant coaches yet. Typically head coaches decide on assistant coaches. All coaches will need to have modules completed before practices begin. Jim reiterated that all coaches cannot step on the ice until modules are completed. Brian will be able to steer Head Coaches in the Assistant Coaching positions. Brian mentioned having a discussion about evaluations and ranking system in the future. Jim also discussed the importance of having an updated Annual Guide. Brian discussed playing in the Seacoast League. Decisions will be made at the August meeting. Girls Program Director s Report (Nate Spooner Jeff Libby was not present at the meeting) Nate Spooner said a team will be fielded for U19 team. Nate would like to start the girls season earlier since the Massachusetts league starts early in September. Nate would propose evaluations in early September and practices late in September. If this happens, we will need to secure more ice possibly at USM or PIA? Need to recruit more girls at U14 level only 3 returning players. Need to promote the program. Proposed U12 Tier II team more beneficial to keep a U12/U14 Tier IV team. Could field at U12 EP team. Need to set tuition. 3

Huskies Director s Report (Lisa Sjostedt) Lisa had nothing to report. Huskies Coaching Director s Report (Dave Sjostedt) Dave asked who the Midget Tier II team falls under in terms of a Director s responsibility. The Board discussed that the Midget Tier II will be now under the Tier II program. Dave requested a list of names of coaches and all the teams in the Tier IV program. Nate Spooner will send him that information. Further discussion was around holding the changes until we determine the cost associated with making the changes. Beth made a motion to table the discussion until the June meeting. Bantam player release Coaches and Tier IV on the website. Motion was approved. Beth will need to send out an email to communicate to parents of players.
