Texas Region SCCA Roundup Newsletter Where Texas best amateur drivers race! JAN-FEB-MAR 2017 http://www.texasscca.org Howdy Texas Region! Your REsource - Bob Neff, Regional Executive Duis iaculis augue ac diam varius blandit. Proin lobortis iaculis enim, ut mattis lectus placerat sed. Curabitur ac quam nec dolor sollicitudin mollis id vitae ligula. Maecenas et arcu sem. Ut sit amet quam urna. Whew - 2017 has really started off with a bang! As I write this it s not even March yet and we already have our first two 2017 Club Race events in the books as well as our first Road Rally event, our annual Awards Banquet has come and gone, the SCCA National Convention is over and we ve just finished the SowDiv Annual Meeting. To say things have been busy would be an understatement, but it s been a very good sort of busy. Our Super School in January benefitted from some terrific weather and we had great attendance with 15 school entries, 35 Club Racers, and 27 Club Trial entries for the first event of our newly introduced Club Trial Championship series. Our second Club Race event, at TWS in February, was even more successful with well over 100 entries or both Saturday and Sunday and 17 Club Trial entries back for the second series event of 2017. Once again the weather was great, and if you missed the Saturday night party you missed a fun gathering. And our first rally event of the year, the Sweetheart Ride Road Rally, was completed in February with 20 entrants participating in four classes, in everything from a Toyota Sienna to a 911 Turbo S. The SCCA Annual Convention was held in Las Vegas again this year, and there were a variety of very good sessions available for Club Race, Rally, Solo, Time Trials and Street Survival as well as for region management. All of the presentations have been made available through the national web site for those interested, and especially for folks involved in managing those various region activities I d encourage you to download and review the presentations relative to your specialties, at https://www.scca.com/events/1983542-2017-scca-national-convention

Our annual Banquet was held at a new location this year and it turned out to be a nice change, with great food and good service. Attendance was off a bit but it was a fun evening recognizing our top competitors for 2016 and our major Region award winners, and celebrating another successful season for Texas Region. We were a finalist for SCCA Region of the Year once again and although we did not win it was still a major honor considering we were competing this year as a newly ordained Jumbo region. Our Region ended the year with the highest membership growth percentage of all Jumbo regions, 7.7% (on top of 9.2% growth in 2015), with 907 regular members at year-end. As we move into March the activity only increases, with our first Street Survival event, a Solo school and our first Solo event of the year, a National Solo Tour event in College Station, and a SowDiv Club Race Hoosier Super Tour at Circuit of the Americas in Austin. So if you have a street car, race car or garage queen we have an opportunity for you to bring it out and play, and I hope to see you at one of these upcoming events. In closing, I want to say Thanks! to everyone who participated with Texas Region SCCA in 2016. Your enthusiasm and involvement are what makes all this worthwhile and I hope you ll continue that participation in 2017. Until next time, Bob Neff

Have you heard about the first annual SCCA Texas Region Club Trials Championships? The SCCA Texas Region has put together a fun and entertaining way to take your track driving experience to the next level! We have started the first Annual SCCA Texas Region Club Trials Championships with events already held in January and February. More events are scheduled with our next event on May 7, at Motorsports Ranch in the Ft. Worth suburb of Cresson TX! For this event, we will be offering on-track instruction. For those who have never sat behind the wheel while on a track, the PDX program provides instruction in both the classroom and on the track, giving drivers the opportunity to improve their driving skills and increase their enjoyment of driving their street vehicle. If you have ever been approved as a soloqualified driver for any verifiable HPDE or performance driving school, we welcome you to join us in our Club Trial portion of the event to compete against the clock and drive your car to earn season points towards a championship. We are offering a fun way to drive on your favorite tracks, challenge yourself to earn your best lap time, and win season points to the first Texas Regional championship. You supply the driver and car; we supply the transponder to capture your real and accurate lap times. This event is put together to create a fun and unique challenge. The season will consist of a minimum of 5 events and we are working to add even more for 2017 in this exciting new venture. Still to come: May 7 Club Trials and PDX, MSR Cresson 1.7 Clockwise November Club Trials, TWS More events to be added in late summer and Fall 2017!
