Please do not forget to turn in your LIVESTOCK ENTRY FORM with stall fee by JUNE 25! You WILL NOT be allowed to exhibit at the fair if you forget!!!! I have included the form for your convenience or a new option (4-Hers only) is to enter online (instructions included). Also DUE June 25 the Clothing Event & Communications Event Forms. I encourage 4-H members to consider participating both these events, especially the Communications as our numbers have dropped the past few years and this is a incredible opportunity for 4-Hers to learn public speaking! SUMMER CAMPS!!!! Enclosed are the brochures for the JUNE SUMMER CAMPS, We still have open spots so I encourage you to check them out!! THERE WAS SOME DATE TYPOS for some of the camps!!! Please see the enclosed registration form for all correct dates!!!!! Remember that ALL youth are invited to the camps not just those in 4-H, invite a friend to the 4-H FUN! ALL Brochures are available at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/sioux/content/nw-iayouth-events 4-H LIVESTOCK/ANIMAL INDENTIFICATION Livestock Fair Entry Forms are DUE JUNE 25 with stall fees & showring cards to the Extension Office by mail, fax, email, or drop off! I have enclosed the Livestock Fair Entry for your convenience. ALL Forms are available at the Extension Office or at our website: www.extension.iastate.edu/lyon/info/fairforms If you turned in a Livestock ID on May 15 or June 1(rabbits) and intend to exhibit any type of animal in 4-H or FFA at the Lyon County FAIR the Fair Entry Form must be turned in along with stall fee and species cards!!! The PENTALTY for a late form is not exhibiting at the Lyon County Fair (new rule!). Lyon County 4-H Members can complete Fair Entry online this year for the Lyon County Fair. 4-H Community Service Day at FAIRGROUNDS Lyon County 4-H Community Service Project at the Fairgrounds to help the Fair Board in preparations for the Lyon County Fair. We will be setting up the pens for the Swine Building, cleaning the 4-H exhibit booths, painting (if needed & weather permitting), etc. There is no pre-registering just show up! WHO: 4-H members, Parents, Leaders and Adult Volunteers This is also a great opportunity for 4-H Clubs to complete community service together as a club! WHEN: July 8 TIME: 5:00 7:00 pm (or when finished) HORSE WORKSHOPS Dates: July 1 - Showmanship & Halter July 10 - Western Pleasure & Stock Seat Equitation July 14 - Trail & Games Time: 7:00 p.m. Place: Lyon County Fairgrounds Participants may only bring horses that have been identified on the ID sheet. Participants MUST wear boots or hard soled shoes - - - no tennis shoes allowed. Participants must wear an approved helmet during riding events. LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS: FSQA Food Safety and Quality Assurance ****4-H/FFA members showing livestock at the Fair are required to either train or test. If you are unsure if you need the training or testing please contact Jill at the Extension Office. ~Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) Training or Testing is required to show livestock at the fair. If you intend to show at the fair, you need to have the training or take the test for your age group. The livestock species includes beef, swine, sheep, dairy cattle, goat (meat, breeding, & dairy), rabbits, poultry, and bottle/bucket calf. The species excluded from the FSQA training/testing are horses and pets. What is the certification/recertification process? All youth in grades 4 th, 5 th & 6 th are required to attend a training (no testing) each year. Youth in grades 7 th, 8 th, 9 th will have the option of attending a training every year or completing an Intermediate Test which will certify them until they 10 th grade. Youth in grades 10 th, 11 th & 12 th will have the option of attending a training every year or completing a Senior Test which will certify them until they graduate. Where are the manuals to study for the tests? The manual is available online at www.extension@iastate.edu/4h/livestock/fsqa, the manual is also available at the Extension Office. TESTING needs to be completed by June 25!!!! Call Jill to schedule a time. If you were unable to attend the training on the Lyon County date you will need to attend FSQA Training at a different county. See Below for the different county training dates, location & time. 4-H AWARDS & RECOGNITION & FAIR FUN NIGHT A Fun Night is being planned for July 24 in the evening to complete all the fair activities (See schedule below). The Public is invited to attend all activities! We have also added some FUN Awards! Lyon County Roger Baldwin 4-H Foundation Lyon County Roger Baldwin Memorial 4-H Foundation Application for Funding Purpose: To promote the Lyon County 4-H program with annual monetary awards to recipients (which could be members, leaders or clubs) chosen by the Board of Directors. To enlist the contributions of individuals and business to support the educational goals of the local 4-H program to assist youth. Is there a project you would like to try if only it didn t cost so much? Would you like help with college expenses? Does your club need supplies for a community project? Would an educational trip or other type of opportunity interest you if past of the expenses were defrayed through these funds? Is there a small piece of equipment that you might be needing to complete your 4-H projects? The Lyon County Roger Baldwin Memorial 4-H Foundation has funds available to assist you in your educational endeavors. Complete this application and return it to the extension office by the listed date. Awards will be announced at the annual Lyon County 4-H awards banquet held in November. Eligibility: 4-H Foundation grants are available to any 4-H member in Lyon County, any 4-H leader in Lyon County, any 4-H club in Lyon County or any graduating senior who was active in a 4-H club during three of his/her high school years. Applications for 4-H Club Community Service projects will be more heavily weighted for awarding. Medical/health form COMMUNICATIONS EVENT Please consider participating in the Commincations Event this year. This is an opportunity that is open to all 4-H members! Look in your Fair Book starting on page 48 for more details or contact Jill at the Extension Office. Here is an explanation of the different areas: EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATION - Provide an opportunity for 4-H ers to demonstrate communication skills by presenting knowledge, information, or a process to an audience in order to gain a desired response. WORKING EXHIBIT - Provide an opportunity for 4-H ers to communicate, interact with, and teach an audience in an informal and experiential way. Example: to make something, teach a new skill, taste or smell something, or pick up some literature or information to take home. Working Exhibits are presented at the same time with the judge walking around while you are helping the visitors at your exhibit. We will allow for 25 minutes for Working Exhibits SHARE-THE-FUN - Provide an opportunity for 4-H ers to share their skills and talents before an audience purely for the sake of enjoyment. You can practice your communication skills by yourself or with other people by performing in front of others, practice your skills in the performing arts, learn to use communication tools like a microphone or large visuals, promote unity within the group of performers & show others what a great time everyone can have by sharing your talents! Examples of Share the Fun-playing an instrument, group skit or comedy, singing, puppet show, dance routine, the possibilities are endless!
