Senior Football League Following on from a tough opening day encounter with Ballincollig the Rovers were looking to build on that but found Ballingeary a tough nut to crack in Brinny.Played in wintry conditions the 1st half was tit for that and the sides were level at the short whistle at 1-4 to 0-7 points, the goal scored by Fiachra Lynch following a good build up. The 2nd half started well for Valleys and with 15 minuets left were 4 points to the good after some excellent point taking. But a couple of concentration lapses left the opposition in for two goals and we were now chasing the game. The lads responded well and drew level near full time and had a great chance to win the game but the attempt went wide and the game ended in a draw. Prominent for Valleys were Ian Crowley, Kevin Canty and John Cottrell. Final score: 1-13 to 2-10 Team: Cormac Desmond Ian Crowley, Tim Cummins, Aaron Lyons, Danny O Sullivan, David Lynch, Johnny Kiely, Kevin Canty, John Cottrell, Rory O Sullivan, Eoghan Delaney, Darragh looney, Pa Hurley, Jack Walsh, Fiachra Lynch. Healy a Robert sean Sweetnam free and Patrick Hurley gave valleys a six points to three lead by the 45 minute. The last 15 minutes belonged to Ballymartle but could only manage two points due to great defending by Valleys. Valleys hung on for a hard fought victory on a score line of 6points to five. Best on the day for Valleys was David Lynch who pulled off two great saves in the first half. Bill Casey, Scott Deane, Sean O Regan & Fearghal Lyons in defence stuck to their task admirably while Shane O Leary, Rory O Sullivan,Adam Healy and James Callanan did well in midfield and attack.of the 20 players that togged off, 19 are Under 21. Following on from the celebrations at the medal presentation the night before it was a credit to the players that fulfilled this fixture and fought so hard for their victory. Team :- David Lynch, Scott Deane, Aidan Sheehan, Bill Casey, Michael Crowley, Fearghal Lyons, Sean O Regan, Shane O Leary, Rory O Sullivan, Dan Sweetnam, James Callanan, Adam Settini, Pa Hurley, Gary Deane, Colm Butler Subs used:-sean Lynch, Adam Healy, Jack Higgins, Eoin Burke, Robert Sean Sweetnam. Ballymartle were level by the 17th & Gary Deane gave us a two points to one lead in the 22nd minute. Two points in last minute of first half gave Ballymartle a 3 points to two lead at half time. increasing number of personal injury claims coming in where players are taking personal actions against another player or the club and if that player was not registered at the time of the injury, this exposes the club and the Association in that if it went legal, we would be found negligent for fielding an unregistered member so part of this request to have players registered is to protect both the club and the Association in the event of such a case. This Letter was received from Croke Park re the importance of players paying membership before playing. We urge all players to read. Thank you. "Membership of the Association runs from January 1st December 31st as per the official guide. Cover under the GAA Injury Benefit Fund also runs on a calendar basis from January 1st December 31st and currently clubs have until the 1st March to register and pay for the teams they wish to be covered for 2018. Players are also to be registered as per the official guide. There is no date given for the registration of as March 31st applies for registering members for the purposes of voting rights. The GAA Injury Benefit Fund is in place for the benefit of registered members and we are asking clubs to have those that could potentially benefit from the Fund as in the players to be registered. A significant number of claims have been uncovered whereby the player involved was not registered at the time of the injury, was not registered at all in the given year or was registered after the injury date which is unacceptable. Willis have been informed to decline such cases as we need to get the message out there about the importance of registering players. Players should be informed that they are not covered under the Fund until they pay their membership and this may assist the club in getting the membership from the players in a timelier manner. Clubs are facing increasing demands from players for medical bills to be paid and in many cases the club are not receiving the membership from the player.
