Summer is still with us and what a fun time this has been and still is. Although November did tend to be on the cool side we did have a taste of the summer to come when suddenly the days became hot - but this was followed by a cold spell where the max. temperature one day only reached 16 C! This was unheard of for November and we all wandered what had happened to the global warming so much in the news. Of course this cool snap didn t last and back we went to beautiful one day, perfect the next. So needless to say the pool was used a lot for volley ball, cricket (yes, cricket!), swimming or just lazing around. Since the last Trunk Calls quite a few visitors have graced our doorstep and quite a few fun occasions have taken place: Friends of Elephant Rock Picnic; New Year s Eve celebration; impromptu belly dancing demo and Australia Day celebrations. MEN AT WORK It is a common misapprehension that kitchen duties are a woman s prerogative*. To prove this wrong, see these happy men industriously at work in the Elephant Rock kitchen. Really warms the cockles of your heart, don t it!... * synonyms: exclusive right; privilege. NATURE AT ITS BEST You probably know already that the wildlife here is prolific with Wallabies, Goannas, Bandicoots, Possums and the odd Koala being in evidence. Also birds sometimes get friendly as here a King parrot being fed by hand. This is a male parrot and only a comes close to a female feeder. Makes you think! And the female Kingy has to wait her turn till the male finishes his repast. Isn t nature wonderful? A husband walks into Frederick's of Hollywood to purchase some sheer lingerie for his wife. He is shown several possibilities that range from $250 to $500 in price. The more sheer, the higher the price. He opts for the most sheer item, pays the $500 and takes the lingerie home. He presents it to his wife and asks her to go upstairs, put it on and model it for him. Upstairs, the wife thinks, I have an idea. It's so sheer that it might as well be nothing. I won't put it on, I'll do the modeling naked, return it tomorrow and keep the $500 refund for myself. So she appears naked on the balcony and strikes a pose. The husband says, 'Good Lord! You'd think that for $500, they'd at least iron it' He never heard the shot. Trunk Calls page 2
The New Year s Eve crowd relaxing during the last happy hour for 2006. As usual the night was a theme night and all celebrants were dressed (or should that be undressed?) in something to do with a circus. There were lions and lion tamers; ringmasters; strong men and women; bearded ladies; acrobats; high wire artists; fairy floss on a stick and of course clowns. But the winners of the best costume awards were the spruiker and ticket seller complete with a booth! Everyone had to perform something to do with their character. So we all applauded acts such as a liontamer taming a lion; a strongman bending iron bars; high wire artist walking the high (low?) wire. The best act prize went to a ringmaster using a whip to get his favorite clown to perform a variety of very difficult tricks. And guess what! Nobody went to sleep before the New Year arrived! Possibly the game of Petanque at night under lights helped to keep everyone awake. A good time was had by all!!!!!! Trunk Calls page 3
December 9th saw a gathering of beautiful people for a sausage sizzle. We call them friends of E.R. and the ones who were able to come had a gourmet (well, at least a nice) meal which they devoured on the breezeway. Must admit we didn t know we had so many friends! We ll see how many we can rustle up for this year s get together....and then, a month later, some gorgeous ladies treated us to a belly dancing exhibition. They all had gone to Yamanto to a dress shop there and managed to pick up some flimsy, attractive gear to enhance their dancing routine. What a pity nobody had access to a movie camera. Did you know that belly dancing is very similar to Greek dance? At least the sole Greek spectator thought so and to prove it he got up and danced along. The Greeks know how to enjoy themselves! Over forty true blue Auzzies gathered here at Elephant Rock in the usual January heat to celebrate Australia day...naturally. The pool was a popular place to congregate during lulls in organized activities. A half a dozen dampers were done for the hoard. who then wholeheartedly got stuck into it with gusto! Of course the weekend wouldn t be complete without a game or two of Petanque. Who s the closest to the kitty? Surely not the women...again! Australia Day Thong Throwing The Australia Day Thong Throwing competition was very popular, especially when the Golden Thong trophy was displayed with the promise that whoever won will have their name engraved on it. It was amazing how many different styles of throwing were used, from...crouching Tiger to marching straight. But the styles used by Trudy and Dean won the day. Of course there were a number of pikers who didn t wish to toss thongs around so they become cheering spectators relaxing in some shade. Trunk Calls page 6
