ABOUT BOWL-A-THON Something you can do Rain or Shine What Is Bowl-A-Thon? Junior Achievement s annual Bowl-A-Thon is Baton Rouge s oldest bowling event. Think of it as a company party that doubles as a fundraiser for JA. Our goal is to create a fun and exciting atmosphere for everyone who participates and to raise a minimum of $130,000 in an effort to reach over 20,000 students in the Baton Rouge and surrounding area. How It Works & Who It Involves Every successful Bowl-A-Thon comprises of the following key players. The chart below highlights these players, their key responsibilities and relationships. Company Coordinator (Normally one person per company) Recruits team captains Leads & promotes bowl a thon initiative within their own company This person works closely with Junior Achievement Team Captain Supports their company coordinator in company-wide fundraising efforts Motivates team members to achieve the goal of $100 each to qualify for a co- memorable stein and one drink ticket. Recruits 4 people to join their bowling team, to complete the 5 person team (company, employees, family or friends.) Attends ONE TEAM CAPTAIN MEETING (January 12, 13 or 14 ) & sends in Team Registration form NO LATER THAN Friday, January 28 th, 2011. Registers team at Bowl-A-Thon Registration Room on event day. Bowlers FIVE bowlers per team including Team Captain. Each secures donations by asking friends, family, coworkers or vendors. Encourages team members to raise the minimum of $100 each Turns in all donations and their pledge sheet to their Team Captain either prior to or the day of their Bowl-A-Thon session. Bowlers may continue soliciting for money until the final deadline of March 11, 2011. 2011 Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon Guidebook 4

This year over 2,000 students benefited from this program, and we have a demand to reach even more students. Your continued support is critical to JA providing financial literacy resources to our young people. We need to educate kids on the skills needed for success. We can t do this alone, and your participation and support will provide immense benefit to tomorrow s business leaders. ~ Important Dates ~ Team Captain Meetings Wed. ~ ABOUT JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT ~ JA BRINGS THE REAL WORLD TO KIDS AND TEACHES THEM HOW AMERICA WORKS The investment you make in JA attacks the very root of the problem that brought on this financial crisis. JA is continuing to educate our youth about financial literacy, entrepreneurship and workforce readiness. Our youth needs to understand the significant values of Junior Achievement. What is Junior Achievement? Junior Achievement is the largest and fastest growing non-profit education organization in the world! The purpose of Junior Achievement is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics to improve the quality of their lives. The growth and changes that are currently taking place in the Baton Rouge area provide the opportunity for JA to expand its organization and its impact. We are profoundly grateful for your support of the bowl-a-thon and for sharing JA s vision for tomorrow s youth. Junior Achievement of Greater Baton Rouge & Acadiana is a not-for-profit organization financed by businesses, individuals, foundations and fundraising events. What does Junior Achievement Do? By partnering business with education, JA recruits volunteers to teach business and economic-oriented programs for students K- 12. The JA program is in over 85 schools in our area. How does Junior Achievement Work? Business leaders, as volunteers, teach Junior Achievement s activity-based programs which are centered upon real-world topics. The volunteers bring their real life experience in business and economics to life and help children to see the relevance of education and the importance of staying in school. Volunteers are viewed by students as mentors as well as points of contact to the business world. Junior Achievement programs are field tested in classrooms and updated in response to comments from teachers, students and volunteers. They correlate to state educational standards in Louisiana. All JA programs are evaluated by an independent research firm, and the results of those evaluations are used to revise and improve the instructional models. 2011 Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon Guidebook 6

ADDITIONAL FUNDRAISING IDEAS FOR PAJAMA BOWL! Purchase candy bars and gum in bulk from Sam s Club and sell at your company. Jeans for JA: Employees designate one day or even a week as Jeans for JA casual day/week. Employees give a donation and buy a Jeans for JA sticker, giving them the okay to wear blue jeans to work on the designated day or days (typically $5 for a day). Basket Auction: Each company department creates a gift basket of donated items. Baskets may have themes and may include anything from trinkets to treasures. Display baskets and then auction them off. Raffles for Dollars: Ask top management if sporting event tickets would be available for a raffle. Sell raffle tickets. Go home early! Boss or manager collects $25 from anyone who wants to leave work early on a designated day. Sell the Parking Spot for your boss! Employees purchase raffle tickets to win the boss s parking spot for a day. Bake sales: Some employees might rather bake than bowl. Ask them to do their share for JA by participating in a bake sale. Barbecue: Set up a grill and sell hot dogs, brats or hamburgers at lunch with the proceeds going to JA. Breakfast: Prepare breakfast on a certain day and sell to co-workers. This can be a full breakfast or simply donuts: Check with your local bakery, they may be willing to make that donation. Proceeds on company-wide fund raising can be split between all teams. Be creative and have fun! Remember, your donations will assure the JA programs are available in classrooms throughout the Greater Baton Rouge area. 2011 Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon Guidebook 22
