Eponicity s Facilitators Deborah Draves Legg left her life in the USA and a 25 year career as a registered nurse in 2006 and created Leaves and Lizards in Costa Rica with her husband, artist, Steven Legg. Previously a charge and transport nurse in Neonatal ICU, Pediatric ICU, Adult Hospice and Founder/Director of a pediatric home care program, Debbie is an personable and practical leader. Horses found their way into Debbie s life serendipitously after the move to Costa Rica and as her knowledge and interest grew, so did her herd of horses. Experiencing first-hand how horses teach us about ourselves, she went on to become an advanced Eponaquest & Power of the Herd instructor and, with refinement over the years, has created the ideal learning environment for families, individuals and groups to explore personal growth with the horses. Sally Nilsson is a certified executive coach with the Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching (IPEC), experienced facilitator, mentor and instructor in Eponaquest & Power of the Herd horse-led leadership and personal development activities. Sally spent 15 years as a corporate attorney in London and Hong Kong, starting her career in a leading global law firm and culminating as General Counsel of a multibillion European real-estate investment firm. Sally first discovered Leaves and Lizards by chance on a riding vacation and, a few years later in 2015, stepped off the corporate path to follow her passion, move to Costa Rica and focus her full attention on supporting others to find and access the life they truly want and to believe that, like her, they can create it.
Herd dynamics Our 28 horses live as a herd in natural conditions on grass pasture Many of our horses were either rescued or were born here and remain in their family groups One of our team members, Leila Pages, is has an award winning documentary that features our program! click here to see the trailer EPONICITY S HORSES Giving the horse a voice Our horses pick the humans they want to partner with (or not) in our original horse selection activity. We use bitless bridles and practice relationship-based training/interaction. Just as we introduce ourselves to each other, everyone who rides will first do an exercise on the ground to build a relationship with their horse Image credit: Sandy Sharkey
Explore the rolling hills with your horse, the ideal partner to take you on an epic natural adventure Follow the current downstream to a waterfall Ride along the ridge of the Arenal Volcano
Join a cabalgata (community village fundraiser ride with 100s of local horses on a remote cross-country trail - watch a video of Leaves and Lizards' 2017 cabalgata here!) Horses show us what it takes to build true partnerships Swim with your horse in the river CLICK HERE TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT NOW

TESTIMONIALS Astonishing. Exhilarating. Revealing. Transformational. All words that accurately describe my experience in the Eponicity workshop. In our every day lives, we hope to learn about ourselves in bits and pieces. We try to grow in small ways hoping they ll add up, eventually, to something bigger, something meaningful. But imagine doing all this in one week. Enter Eponicity. I arrived afraid - what if I couldn t keep up with the horsey stuff? I hadn t ridden since I was 12 when I was told I was awkward and untalented. What if I held the group back or worse Eponicity isn t about riding or being horsey. It s about the beauty of animals and the magnificent relationship between horses and humans. In fact, only one member of our group could ride. One member had never even sat on a horse. It didn t matter. We were there to be with our horses and with ourselves. What is the process? It s hard to describe because it s an evolution, different for each person. It starts with sitting blind-folded in a circle and waiting for a horse your horse to choose you. From there a friendship evolves through exercises, rides, coaching, and social experiences. Your horse lovingly gives you what you need and, in turn, requires that you shed what you do not. Today, I describe myself as arriving in Costa Rica a garden snake and shedding so many skins, I left as a python. It s not just the horses. It s also the people the brilliant Debbie Legg, and Sally Nilsson. They are more than a team, rather a seamless interweave of talents able to work with each of us to tease out our raw, beautiful humanness and, from there, dip our toes into the pool of our authentic selves. I am home now, a different person. No one around me can quite name it. Some say I m gentler, others prefer more directed or better grounded. The words don t matter because the truth is I m more me. And becoming me is a never-ending process that I m honored to have begun with Eponicity at Leaves and Lizards. Julie Davidson, CEO, U.S. (May 2017) Click here to read more Testimonials
