Game Rules & Information Games will start at 5:30PM Fri. and 8:00am Sat. & Sun. Be prepared to take the field immediately when the preceding game is completed. This means no infield practice by your coaches. Failure to be on the field and ready for play will result in diminished time to play. Home team shall be decided by coin toss when umpires review the ground rules. No line-up need be submitted, this is an exposure tournament. Game balls will be provided and are to be returned to the umpires at the games completion. A one hour and twenty minute (80 minutes) time limit shall apply to all games. Official game time starts with the first pitch and it will be the home team s responsibility to note the starting time in the score book per the umpire. The umpire shall have the official time. When the time limit expires the game will be over. (See Drop Dead ruling below.) The game clock will be stopped only for injury. There shall be no infield practice between games at anytime. Please vacate the dugout area when your game is complete. Practice and warm-up areas will be designated at check-in. The tournament will be governed by the 2013 A.S.A. Rules / Code for championship and/or invitational play, except where amended by Sparks Softball s home rules. The rules will be standard ASA rules with no slaughter rule in effect. It is hoped that since this is a showcase tournament, replacement players will be used by the lead team. Unlimited substitutions, everyone bats, with these minor exceptions: Substitute Runners: The same substitute runner can only be used once per inning for running. 1
Drop Dead Ruling When the time limit expires, the game is over even if the home team does not get their at bat. It drops dead there. This is an exposure tournament! Inclement Weather In the event of rain, every effort will be made to continue and complete the tournament. However, the following format may be instituted at the discretion of the Tournament Director! Game Cancellations during pool play Due to the number of games, field availability, and team schedules, the Sparks Game policy is to not reschedule or finish games not completed during the published game time. Teams will not receive a refund for game cancellations. Example: If it rains Saturday morning between 2-6am, and the fields are not playable at 8:00am, all 8:00 games and any other time slot thereafter will be cancelled until the fields are in the appropriate condition to play. Once they become playable, the teams who are scheduled at that time will take the field to play if they are within 15 minutes past the start time. Otherwise the teams scheduled at the next starting time will play. Please remember, The Elgin Sports Complex has lightning detectors. When they are activated, they will not turn off until it is deemed safe by them. The park district policy does not allow anyone on the fields until the detector sounds the all clear signal. Note: Once the detector is activated, there is a 20 minute cycle before it will sound all clear. A voice message for inclement weather will be 847-867-4482. 2
