Notice of races will be posted on DSC website soon. 8 sailors are confirmed to attend (3 DBYC, 5 TCYC). Minnow trailer will be loaded with DBYC boats at training session on 9 th June, TCYC boats on 16 th June, together with 2 x TCYC inflatables. Heidi will tow trailer to Fremantle the following Monday or Tuesday for loading into container on Friday 21 st. Noted sailing gear can be packed into trailer. Chris has hired 5.1m boat for 8 days ($350/day) as support boat for sailors. Costs to be shared amongst parents using the boat. Coaching for Darwin Nationals: First coaching session was held with Chelsea Hall on 28 th April, a great success. Unfortunately Chelsea is unable to continue coaching due to her own sailing commitments. Remaining sessions will be coached by Ki Raphael Sukowski as follows: DBYC Sunday 19 th May 9:00am to 4:00pm TCYC Sunday 9 th June 9:00am to 4:00pm TCYC Sunday 16 th June 9:00am to 12noon Coaching fees (and travel costs for Dunsborough) are being shared amongst number of participants on each day. Future Nationals: 2014 - Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron, Port Phillip, Melbourne now confirmed, 13 th to 17 th January 2014. 2015 Expected to be held in WA during 2013/2014 summer season possibly TCYC or DBYC. Funding / Grants for Nationals: Ron Tough Foundation $1,000 grant for Darwin Nationals presented to MAWA at recent Meet the Champions night. General discussion held on the use of MAWA funds and amount of grant for Darwin Nationals. General consensus was that, as the Association is a not for profit organisation, funds from sponsors and grants should be expended from year Page 2 of 5
to year to benefit those sailors currently in the Association. JC proposed motion that MAWA provide $2,000 grant towards transport costs for Darwin Nationals, in addition to Ron Tough Grant. Motion 2 nd by RJ. All agreed. Motion passed (quorum present). Sates: Correspondence: Minnow Websites: 2013 State Championships All thank you letters and photo certificates have been presented to sponsors. DBYC thank you photo certificate was presented at DBYC s club presentation night on Saturday. Receipt for printing and frames handed to Lorna for reimbursement. CB has sent State rankings to Westsail. National Website BC has updated National website to include MAWA contact details. Discussed format of website and all agree that a WA tab on the home page menu is required so all WA news and notices can be easily accessed. Bron to discuss with Vic and NT web administrators. Major news items to be posted on home page. (BC) WA Website Website will be maintained for a transition period while everything is transferred over to National website. RJ suggested WA domain be kept for those searching for WA Minnow Association. Boating: SSC Presentations were held on 11 th May along with some racing (2 x Lasers, 1 x catamaran, 2 x Mudlarks, 1 x Minnow). 2 older children that attended last year s sailing camp came to presentation night and are interested in sailing Minnows next season. Most kids from last season will stay on in Minnows, with a couple expected to move on. DBYC No report. TCYC Dale, Jeremy and Andrew will be moving on. Otherwise expect most sailors to remain in Minnows with many progressing to next division (C s to B s, B s to A s). Expect a number of Mudlark sailors to move into Minnow C s. General Business: Open/Novice Fleet Policy for States & Nationals CB has discussed with Victorian Association, and their policy is the same as ours (ie ideally 1 year in Novice fleet, depending on individual sailor s ability, and on wind conditions at event). Some WA parents have commented that this did not seem to be the case at 2012 Nationals; will discuss further at Darwin Nationals if necessary. (CB) Page 3 of 5
Fundraising for Nationals Darwin & Blairgowrie Funding/sponsorship opportunities: Lumos (new Waikiki beachfront developer) no response as yet. Local paper no response; Lorna to submit photos and an article on the State team and request for sponsorship, including photos from next TCYC training day. (LB) Bunnings sausage sizzle Saturdays/Sundays booked up at Rockingham until early next year; Thursdays/Fridays available, but profit may only be $150 to $200. Mandurah had issue with local boundaries and would not take a booking. Public liability insurance details must be provided to be placed on a cancellation waitlist. MAWA has no such insurance. Lorna has investigated options YA and TCYC have both advised that MAWA can t utilise their PLI policies. Lorna has requested that TCYC raise this at the next Committee meeting. Another option is to take out PLI through OAMPS or similar premium would be in the order of $2,000 or more per year, which would not be feasible. (LB) Kwinana Industries Council investigated, but KIC already sponsor TCYC and are looking at further sponsorship for the club. Other ideas to be followed up: Tom Rose Cockburn Sound Management. Kerry to report at next meeting. (KW) Local businesses Bron has provided details of some bank community funding that we could apply for. Lorna will follow up. (LB) Naval sponsorship possibility Jon to follow up. (JC) Bron advised of a number of Our Sponsors listed on the new National website. Need to discuss at National level if and how we can access these sponsors for WA events. Chris will discuss with Vic Association. Also, there are a number of sponsors listed by YA and YWA which we may be able to approach. (CB) Insurance General comment was made on PLI and the need to continue to ensure that Minnow training days are designated as a club event of the host club so that MAWA is covered under the host club s insurance policy. (CB) State Team Shirts YWA vests have been purchased and were presented by Chris to State Team members at TCYC and DBYC presentation nights. State Team polo shirts have been made. Cost per shirt slightly higher than original quote which was based on 12 shirts, not the 8 ordered. Cheque written for payment and countersigned at meeting. Lorna will arrange payment and pick up of shirts. Chris to present at next training session. (LB/CB) Quote for MAWA polo shirts received approximately $25 per shirt. Lorna will circulate an order form at start of next season and place one bulk order. Selling price will be set to make a small profit to help offset the cost of State Team t-shirts. Lorna has circulated ideas for caps. Awaiting a few more responses. Will go with general consensus. (LB) Page 4 of 5
