ALL 40 members who MAKE a 2014-2015 cheer squad are required to attend competitive cheer try-outs on these dates. You will be stunting, tumbling, and jumping at these practices. Selection of the competitive team will ultimately be at the discretion of the sponsor and coach(s). Factors that will determine selection include, but are not limited to: athletic ability/skill set, participation/attendance at practices, attitude and work ethic, fulfillment of a specific role or position based on routine choreography, etc. As of now we plan to only take 20 members this year for the competitive squad. If members become hurt or unable to compete we will pull up members as needed.

competitive cheer squad info page 11 & 12 of the Edmond North Cheer Packet Competitive Cheer does require extra time, commitment, and expenses. The competitive squad is made up of Edmond North s elite members. It is an honor to represent Edmond North Cheer at the competitive level. Because we understand the extra time commitment, competitive cheer members will receive an additional 6 merits at the beginning of the school year to compensate for the additional required practices. Those members who make the competitive squad will need to be available to practice everyday at 2:30 (immediately following 6 th hour) during 1 st semester only. Results for the Competitive Cheer Squad will be announced on the website on Thursday, May 15 th!!

EPS district cheer & pom contract and Edmond North's Membership Guidelines & General Information Packet Anyone involved in our program needs to read, understand, and be willing to follow all rules and regulations stated in both contracts. We hold all members of our program to high standards and strive for them to be the best person they can be. We hope to help our members learn to have strong character, to make good choices, to be good leaders, and role models to all. It is the responsibility of all participants interested in trying out for Edmond North Cheer, and their parent/guardian, to read both contracts thoroughly on their own time and be familiar with the rules and regulations that govern Edmond North Cheer!!! The next few slides are key points from the contract to make sure to understand before trying out.

key points from both contracts Page 2 & 3 of the EPS District Contract Eligibility Squad members are expected to stay eligible throughout the year and must comply with the most current rules on eligibility as published by the OSSAA, except as otherwise modified by the school district. If a cheer/pom member is ineligible for 4 consecutive weeks, he/she will be dismissed from the squad. Each squad member receives a grade and a physical education credit for completing a semester. Grades will be determined by participation in practices, games, and events. The cheer/pom grade will be figured in with the student s overall GPA. Grading will be done by the coaches (Refer to Page 17 of the Edmond North Cheer Packet for specific grading policy). o GAME/EVENTS- 60 % o DAILY PARTICIPATION- 40%

key points from both contracts Page 3 of the EPS District Contract Attendance Understand when trying out that cheer truly is a year round sport. So it requires a huge time commitment on your part. Edmond Public Schools attendance policy will be followed during class. As with all classes, a tenth absence from cheer/pom will result in a no credit and loss of cheer/pom team membership. What is considered a Practice? The class period you have cheer Stunt practices Camp practices Assembly practices Competitive Practices

key points from both contracts What is considered a game or event? Any activity that is assigned by the coach/sponsor that you cheer, participate in, or perform at (games, pep assemblies, competitions, spirit clinics, etc.) Can you miss a game or event? Each member will receive 2 free passes for the year (1 per semester). (taken from Page 4 of the EPS District Contract)

key points from both contracts Page 4 of the EPS District Contract Conduct and Appearance Acceptable school conduct as defined by the policies of the school district must be demonstrated at all school activities (including summer camp and away games). Just as with all other school sports, poor judgment that results in school disciplinary consequences may impact the level of participation of a cheer or pom member. Repeated squad violations and/or school violations of a serious nature will result in a period of extended benching from the squad as noted in the demerit system employed by each site. In some cases, suspension from the squad may be found appropriate. Hazing will not be tolerated at any time, including summer camp. This will be handled according to school policy and the police will be called. In addition to or in lieu of any action taken by the police or the school district, appropriate disciplinary action as it relates to cheer/pom activities will also be taken by the coach.

key points from both contracts Page 11 of the Edmond North Cheer Packet Actions & Consequences At school events, including cheer class, practices, and cheer related school activities, all school policies will be followed regarding student behavior and attendance. Any violation to the Edmond Public Schools District Cheer & Pom Contract or the Edmond North Cheer Membership Guidelines & General Information Packet may be handled accordingly: o Benching or suspension for a period of time to be determined by the coach. o Loss of points on the academic grade for the physical education credit squad members receive for being on a cheerleading squad. o Demerits. A squad member who accumulates twelve (12) demerits will result in suspension from the squad for the remainder of the year. Please note that the members facing suspension from the squad have had adequate opportunities to earn merits that would offset demerits.

key points from both contracts Demerit & Merit System: Page 15-16 of the Edmond North Cheer Packet This system is in place to keep all girls accountable throughout the year. We will use an electronic app to keep record of all merits and demerits. Participants and Parent/Guardian will get a text notification when merits or demerits are given.

key points from both contracts Page 19-20 of the Edmond North Cheer Packet Estimated Cost to Participate Please read through Page 19 & 20 to see the estimated expenses that will be involved when your child makes a cheer squad. We understand it is not a cheap sport to participate in, but we never want that to be the reason someone does not tryout so please talk to us if you have any concerns. Within the first 2-3 weeks after your child makes a squad numerous expenses will be needed to cover camp clothes, shoes, bows, bags, spankies, summer camp fees, etc. If you know that financially you will need assistance in helping pay for some of these cost, please start organizing and running fundraisers with your squads as soon as tryouts are over. Since money is due so soon after tryouts I would have the fundraisers planned and ready to go the week after tryouts if need be. The earlier the better!
