Chandler, AZ 76th Annual Nike Chandler Rotary Invitational Meet Information Coaches, Welcome to the 2016 Chandler Rotary Invitational Track Meet March 18 & 19, 2016 Please review the link to this year s packet regarding the Chandler Rotary Track invitational, hosted by Chandler High School and the Chandler Rotary Service Club. Changes that to this year include: This year the Javelin will be added to the Saturday morning session. Highlights for this year same as past two years are: Entry Date is Friday, March 11, 2016 9:00 AM. Any changes to your entries can be made up till Monday, March 14 till 12:00PM. Any change must be done by email as athletic.net will be locked. The Rotary track meet will NOT be scored. Thus for Arizona Schools this meet might not count against your meet limit; as you are allowed one non scoring meet in addition to your limit of 13 meets. This year s meet will be a Finals only and will be contested as a three session meet. Friday (Open) will remain the same as in the past. Saturday Morning (Seeded) will feature approximately fields of 32 to 40 athletes. Saturday Evening (Elite) will feature fields of 16 to 30 athletes. The Athlete Pass gate will be located on Erie Street, the west side of the stadium (See attached map) No outside food: will be allowed into the stadium this year. We are not talking about the granola bar that an athlete might have, but the 15 boxes of pizzas that teams bring in. The Rotary Club which puts several thousands of dollars into the meet makes their money back from AD sales and concessions. You can still buy the items, but we are asking that they not be brought into the stadium. Unified Team events will be contested Saturday afternoon. Unified Sports is an extension of Best Buddy s and Special Olympics. There is no additional entry fee for these three events. (4x100 Relay, Turbo Javelin & Long Jump) If your school

is interested in participating in unified events, send email to peacock.jessica@cusd80.com. Thursday evening packet pick up and social location will be at Floridino s Italian Restaurant. Located at 590 N. Alma School Road in Chandler. This site is one mile west of the track. The past years location has closed. Hours will be 4:00 to 7:00pm. Special BIB Numbers will be issued for athletes and must be kept for both days of the meet. Athletes will have to have the BIBs on their uniforms to go through the athlete pass gate. ENTRY LIMITS. Each team is guaranteed 2 athletes per event. Time standards found in the meet packet will allow for up to FOUR entries ONLY IF ALL ATHLETES EXCEED THE STANDARD. Entries per event have been increased from three to four. MEET FORMAT: This year there will be three sessions. Each session will be seeded by time and there will be no finals for sprint events. Each heat and flight will be grouped by times. Friday night every heat/flight will medal the top finishers. Friday session will be referred to as the Open Session. Saturday morning session will be referred to as the seeded session and will essentially be limited to 32 to 40 athletes per event. The top four in each event will be awarded awards. The Saturday afternoon/early evening session will be referred to as the Elite session and will be limited to 16 to 24 athletes. (Athlete count does not include relays) It is possible for an athlete to compete in the Friday session in one event, and compete Saturday in a different event. The top individual athletes in the Saturday morning Seeded sprint events will have the opportunity to come back and run in the evening Elite session, in heat one of three. NUMBER OF ENTRIES PER SCHOOL Each school will be allowed two (2) entrees in each individual event. A third or fourth entry will be allowed if the entry exceeds the established qualifying standard. NOTE ALL THREE OR FOUR ATHLETES MUST EXCEED THE MARK STANDARD.. Each school will be allowed one entry in each of the relays. Check time schedule to see number of relays contested per session. Note we will attempt to post lane assignments on the various web local track and field sites. These will be preliminary and might not be the final draw. Official lane assignments and positions will be handed out at the coaches social on Thursday evening or at check in on Friday or Saturday. ENTRY DEADLINE All entries will be completed by the coach using athletic.net. Deadline will be Friday, March 11, 2016, by 9:00am. Changes to your entries can be made up till Monday March 14, Noon. Changes are to be emailed only. Please enter all athletes in one session only. IF your team will only compete on Friday, please email me prior to the entry deadline. DO NOT ASSUME I CAN REMEMBER FROM ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT THAT YOU ONLY ATTEND FRIDAY. IF you plan on attending Saturday only, there is NO guarantee all of your athletes will be entered. Those NOT entered will be alternates. ENTRY FEE An entry fee of $325.00 is requested for each school entering the Chandler Rotary Invitational seeded and open meet. An entry fee of $175 is requested for those teams only entering one gender. For teams entering only an individual there is a $20 entry fee. There is a fee of $75 in state teams that wish to only enter six individuals or less. Entry fees for out of state teams are $50 per gender. Out of state individuals are free. Checks can be mailed to the school or brought with you to the meet. Please make every effort to take care of all paper work to ensure proper credit. Checks should be made out to the

Chandler Track club or Chandler High School and mailed to Chandler High School 350 N. Arizona Avenue. Chandler, AZ 85225 UNIFIED TEAMS Teams will be limited to the first eight teams that reserve a spot. There is no extra entry fee for these athletes; but the high school track team must be a participant in the Chandler Rotary Track Meet. Schools should email their intentions of participation. Entries shall be emailed to Jessica Peacock, of Chandler High School. Her email is peacock.jessica@cusd80.com Events contested will be a 400 relay, turbo javelin and long jump relay. AWARDS ELITE Special Rotary Invitational Awards will be awarded to the top five finishers (including relays). These will be awarded immediately after each race or event. The first place finisher will have the first choice for the award, second will then pick till fifth place gets her/his award. This way in case someone is a multiple event winner they do not have to have two watches etc. If an award winner is NOT present at the awards stand then he or she loses their pick.. AWARDS SEEDED The top five in each event will receive special awards. These will be presented after each event has been contested AWARDS OPEN Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each sprint and relay race. Drape Medals will be presented to the top Six finishers in each flight of the field events and distance runs. These races will be seeded straight by time. The fastest eight will be grouped followed by the next fastest eight etc. The distance runs and field events will be divided into two/ three or four flights/heats (except the 3200m Run).. OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES An outstanding track and an outstanding field male and female athlete will receive an award as the Most Outstanding Performer of the meet. These Performances can be made at any of the three sessions. Performances are considered from only one event. UNIFIED TEAM AWARDS Each contestant will receive one drape medal. These will be awarded after the completion of the three events.

ADMISSION CHARGE Admission charge for the public will be $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students with a school ID and seniors. AIA cards will be the only passes accepted at the gate. There will be a two day pass for adults for $15 for sale on Friday. FIRST AID A trainer will be on site. The site for the training table will be located at the Northwest end of the field near the bull-pen. The trainers are there for critical care-injuries. Please tape your own athletes. There will be a charge of $2.00 per roll of tape, if no tape is provided by the athletes. LANE ASSIGNMENTS Lane assignments should be drawn and finished by Monday night, March 14 by the Meet Director. You may obtain a copy of lane assignments at the coaches meeting when you arrive. Tentative lane assignments should be posted by Tuesday noon at the Chandler Rotary website at http://www.chandlerrotarytm.com/ In case of open lanes, Original entries will be replaced from the alternate list at the staging area with the Clerk of the Course before the start of the race. Lane and heat assignments should not be changed from the original entries. Athletes can have other athletes check in with the clerk of the course if they are currently engaged in competition. OLYMPIC START In all Track events which require one or more laps, the box alley start will be used. The 200 meter dash will be run with a full turn. The 1600 Meter Relay will use the 3-turn stagger. LAPPED RUNNERS 3200 Any runner who is lapped could be required to withdraw from the race. The lapped runner shall leave to the inside of the track. Discretion as to the withdrawal of a runner, lapped by the lead runner in the last lap of the 3200 will be up to the Meet Director and Head Referee. QUALIFYING MEET The Chandler Rotary Invitational seeded and open invitational will be a certified meet for all division state meets. The Chandler Rotary also serves as a qualifying meet for the states of New Mexico and Wyoming..

REPORT CALL AND STAGING AREA Contestants will report to the Staging area when the announcer gives the report call. The call will be given at least 15 minutes before each event. At this time contestants will be given their hip lane numbers, open lanes will be filled in and instructions given by the Clerk of the Course. The starters will give no instructions. If a contestant fails to report at or by the last call they will be disqualified from that race. It is the coaches responsibility for having their athletes in the staging area at the proper times. The staging area is the old tennis court located in the northwest corner of the facility. IT is the athletes responsibility to check into the bullpen at the appropriate time. TEAM AREAS All team members; coaches and managers will stay in the stands or warm up areas. Officials only will be allowed on the field. Hurdles will be provided for warm ups. Each coach will be responsible for keeping his team members in the bleacher areas. Athletes may warm up on the athletic fields located to the south of Austin Field or the Baseball Outfield. All field event competitors who have been eliminated from competition will also be asked to leave the field. Only current flights of shot put and discus throwers will be allowed on the field. No team tents shall be set up in the east bleachers. Please advise athletes that after they are done competing they need to exit the infield. STARTING BLOCKS Starting blocks will be furnished and set by Chandler High School. A competitor can provide his or her own blocks. Chandler High School will not be responsible for those blocks. GAMES COMMITTEE Games committee will be announced at the coaches meeting. COACHES MEETING SATURDAY There will be a coaches meeting and continental breakfast starting promptly at 8:15 am in the gym behind the East Bleachers. There will be no coaches meeting for Friday's session. COACHES HOSPITALITY: There will be a dinner provided Friday starting at 5:00 pm. A barbequed lunch will be take place on Saturday; 2:00-4:00pm. Both meals will be served near the gym behind the finish line.

JEWELRY-TEAM UNIFORM RULE: This rule has thankfully been removed by the National Federation Track Advisory committee. WRIST BANDS FOR COACHES AND BIB NUMBERS FOR ATHLETES: All schools will be issued a BIB number and safety pins for athletes. These numbers must be worn by athletes to get into the meet stadium without charge. Coaches will be given wrist bands that they also must wear to get into the meet and into coaches hospitality areas. Coaches need to email Dave Shapiro on how many coaches are attending. PACKET PICK UP FOR BOTH DAYS Packets will be picked up upon arrival by the pass gate or coaches social on Thursday. Packets will include lane assignments for Friday and Saturday, BIB numbers and coaches wrist bands. ENTRY FORMAT: Log onto www.athletic.net and follow all instructions. Remember your password. You need to create your team roster first, before entering into events. Please ENTER ALL ATHLETES for one session only. For results purposes for Maxpreps and Athletic.net we will separate the meet into the three meets. FIELD EVENTS All field event competitors will need to check out with event judges prior to reporting for a running event. Athletes competing in a relay can report to the track. Keep in mind that it is the team's responsibility for following all NFHS rules, such as matching uniforms etc. In the Pole Vault there will be a coaches box on the infield. Anyone in the pole vault coaches box MUST show certificate of completion of the Pole Vault coaching class. All pole-vaulters must have weight certification on file with the athletic director's office of their school. In addition all vaulters will be weighed and poles checked to see if they are of the proper weight usage. Coaches will only be allowed in the roped off area and can talk to athletes at that spot. SHOT PUT AND DISCUS Shot Put and Discus rings are concrete. Chandler High School will provide all of the throwing implements to be used in the Discus and Shot put competition. These implements will be kept on a rack and will be available to warm up with. NO OTHER IMPLEMENT WILL BE USED IN COMPETITION. If you have a special implement you may call the prior to the meet to petition its usage. It will be weighed and left on the rack for the entire competition and any athlete may use it. POLE VAULT, LONG JUMP AND TRIPLE JUMP The runways for long jump, triple jump, pole vault and high jump area are of all-weather surface, therefore all jumping events will require soft-soled shoes or track shoes with 1/4- inch spike or less. HIGH JUMP: The three alive method will be used. On Friday, Shot, Discus, Long and Triple jump will be given three attempts. With the Shot Put and Discus, throws two and three will be consecutive. On Saturday, during the seeded portion of the meet, athletes will be given four attempts. On Saturday evening during the Elite session, athletes will be given three attempts, and the top nine will qualify for finals where they will be given an additional three attempts. On Friday night, the pole vault will increase nine (9) inches for the first three height raises. High Jump will increase by 3 for the first two increases. Check time schedules for starting heights of the pole vault and high jump.
