Elias points out that the three-run deficit was tied for the largest the Cubs have overcome to win a home opener in their franchise history Chicago also came back to win their first home game of the season after trailing by three runs in 1952 at Wrigley Field against the Cardinals and in 1916 at then-weeghman Park s first Cubs opener against the Reds. Jon Lester on Monday recorded the pitching staff s sixth quality start in seven games, allowing three runs in 6.0 innings Trevor Cahill, Adam Warren and Hector Rondon each tossed a scoreless inning of relief to lower the bullpen s ERA to 1.06 ERA (2 ER/17.0 IP) thus far. EARLY RETURNS: The Cubs are 6-1 through the season s first seven games for the first time since 1998 (that team went 6-2 in its first eight games) Chicago aims to tie its best start ever through eight games at 7-1, a trick the franchise has turned 10 times in 140 seasons, but just three times in the last 81 years (1969, 1975 and 1985). The Cubs have held a lead in all seven of its games played thus far Chicago is 6-0 when plating at least four runs in a game. Chicago s 38 walks drawn have contributed to a.372 team on-base percentage, second-highest in the majors behind the Pirates (.387). THAT LL LEAVE A MARK: Chicago s batters have been hit by a pitch in five-straight games for just the eighth time since at least 1913 that includes two six-game streaks with a hit by pitch: September 1-5, 2003 and May 29-June 4, 2013. CURRENT EVENTS: Following this three-game Reds series, the Cubs will entertain the Colorado Rockies for a three-game set at Wrigley Field, starting Friday Monday, the Cubs embark on a seven-game trip at St. Louis (3 games) and at Cincinnati (4 games, starting April 21).
