We also enjoyed karaoke from Harry, Tom and Ruthie. September looks to be another good month with a Comedy show and Prime Rib dinner planned for Saturday September 30 th. The cost will be $20.00 for the show and dinner or $10.00 for just the dinner. The comedy show will consist of a ventriloquist and a stand-up comic. After the show, we are hoping to do karaoke too. We will be awarding a volunteer of the month and a volunteer of the Quarter in September and will let you know their names in next month s newsletter. We seem to be getting a lot of new members joining and now if we can get them to come to the membership meetings and help volunteering, we will really be making some headway! We are always looking for new ideas on what the membership would like to do what kind of food they might like to see served what type of entertainment they would prefer etc. We are also looking at improvements to our Post building (we will be purchasing some new air conditioners for the main room), and we are considering getting the post pressure washed and possibly painted. Our monthly membership meeting will be held on September 9 th due to the holiday on the September 4 th weekend. October will see our Annual Car Show which Johnnie Wilson and the Sons of the American Legion are heading up. This promises to be a great time and the Sons have extremely busy getting donations and locking on all the necessary clubs. So as you can see, American Legion Post 356 is going strong and getting better on a weekly basis. Thanks to the Auxiliary, the Sons and the Riders for all their help in volunteering and making the many meals we enjoy at the Post. Well, I ve rambled on enough for now here s to having a great month of September and remember when you are at the Post enjoying yourselves you look MARVELOUS!!! See you all there Kent

On August 19 th, our creative hat or crazy hat event was so much fun! On August 25, we donated 1000 coloring books, 322 boxes of crayons and 260 fire hats to the Bay County Firefighters. To accomplish this, we did a raffle and partnered up with Childcare Network and Firehouse subs. Now things that will be going on in September: On September 1 st, we will be having Pofolks Chicken with sides. Every first Friday of the month we always do Pofolks Chicken. On September 16 th, we will be having ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and salad. As of September 11 th, we will be starting our Monday Mexican night. Now we will be doing something a little different. Each Monday we will be having only one Mexican meal. Each Monday will be doing a different meal. We still need pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald house. Remember that these tabs can come from your beer cans, soda cans, vegetable cans and even your cat food cans! We need everyone to start thinking of ideas for the next few months. Any thoughts just let one of our officers know what you are thinking. Our E-board is on the First Saturday of every month at 9:00 am. Everyone is invited! Our General meeting is on the First Saturday of every month at 10:00 am. Again, everyone is invited! Remember.. TBA : 1st Sat of every month. Legion Riders Florida is leading the Nation! Legion Riders in Florida have created new events to raise money for our programs and new ways to get Legion Riders to out and working together to make the Legion a better place to be. We were the first state to have an In-State Legacy Ride to raise money for the Legacy Scholarship fund, there are at least 4 other states doing the same thing. Post 356- Past Commander Mike Goat Kirchoff was the driving force behind getting it going. We were the first to have a State Riders Summit, which provides training for the various positions within the ALR. Riders from Ohio, Michigan and other states have come to our summit to learn what we know, so that they can take the knowledge back to their home and train their riders. 1 st District is also leading the way, within the state. Past Director Wayne Loughner s idea to get all ALR chapters in Bay County to work together resulted in the Bay County quarterly Unity Ride, now several other Districts are following our example of getting ALR members to visit other posts. Hoss from 375 came up with the Idea for the D1R patch, a merit patch for those who visit every Legion in Bay County (at least twice) and not only visit but support each post by participating in a Post event. The western part of our district has followed in our tracks and have created another D1R patch for the other side of the vest. District 5 and 15 are working on creating their own patch. Now for some coming events: The Round Robin will be in November. It would be nice to get the trophy back from 5 th District. We are working on a few rides to generate money and try to bring in new members. 2 September we will be serving Cheese Steak sandwiches for supper, and Pam will be cooking up her Awesome Pulled Pork.
