Two teaching staff moved on at the end of last term and we welcome as their replacements Mr James Thompson and Mr David Tassell. I look forward to meeting you at Parent Teacher Evening. Marty Isaksen Principal Year 7 Update Year 7 students have made a good start to Term 2. The Uniform and Diary Challenge will continue this Term so please remember to sign your child s Diary each week. Congratulations to 7.3 who won the Diary Challenge for Term 1. Congratulations to all the students who received Bronze Awards at Assembly. Please contact me if you have any concerns about your child s progress. Charleen.conroy@ntschools.net Charleen Conroy Year 7 Coordinator The Katherine High School Netball Team taking part in the International Netball Competition on the Gold coast participated in a clinic run by Australian Netball Player, Catherine Cox. Year 8 Update Year 8 have hit the ground running in Term 2. In Extended Home Group we began setting learning goals which have been written into our School Diary. Parents and Guardians are encouraged to talk to their child about their learning goals and sign the diary. The Year 8 cohort also discussed ANZAC day and wrote letters to the ANZACs for the display board in the Library. In the coming weeks we will be creating timetables to prioritise must do and optional activities. amy.hill@ntschools.net Amy Hill Year 8 Coordinator Year 9 Update Year 9 camp is fast approaching and the cut-off date for signing up has closed. Please keep payments coming in regularly so that we can keep booking amazing activities in Canberra and Melbourne. The focus this term continues to be Attendance, Uniform and Diary use. Starting next week students will be tracking their own progress in Home Groups using a weekly good habits sheet. Emailing information home is becoming difficult with many emails bouncing back. Could parents please email their correct email address to me at jamyma.kalamaras@ntschools.net to ensure they are staying up to date with all of the school information. Jamyma Kalamaras Year 9 Coordinator Any students wishing to participate in The Simpson Prize please see Miss Conroy. Un-notified Collection of Students If students are required to leave School grounds for appointments or are required to leave early, it is vital that parents/caregivers notify the Front Office by 8.25am that day. If notification has not been received by this time, parents/caregivers will be required to wait for an Assistant Principal to arrange for the student to be collected from class. Emergency situations will be dealt with accordingly. If you would like the Newsletter emailed to you please send an email requesting this to: admin.kathehs@ntschools.net

Wanted A Tech Studies class is seeking used pine pallets for a recycling project. If you can help out with any or know of a source please contact john.green@ntschools.net or phone 89738212. John Green Technical Studies Debating 2016 Do you have something you want to say? Then come along to Katherine High School s debating club and learn how to say it with style. Learning how to debate is a wonderful opportunity to develop your ability to speak confidently in public, clearly express your opinions and increase your understanding of current issues. We will be meeting each Wednesday in W8 and alternate between learning debating skills one week and practicing debates the following week. If you re interested in joining a debate team, pop in and say, hi next Wednesday. We re super excited to have you on board and are looking forward to hearing what you have to say. Regards The Debating Team Community Studies Intensive Day Stage 2 Community Studies classes will be involved in a one day intensive workshop on Thursday 5th May. It will be held at the school in PL8 and will run from 8.20am until 2.40pm. All Community Studies students are required to attend or they may be at a disadvantage to complete this subject. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us on (08) 8973 8200 or email samantha.ashmore@ntschools.net or adrienne.mcmahon@ntschools.net. School Sores The School has been notified that some of our students have impetigo (school sores). This is a very infectious condition. A high level of hygiene, both personal and environmental, reduces the risk of this infection spreading. If you suspect that your child may have impetigo, keep them at home and seek medical assistance. There is a CDC fact sheet included with this newsletter for more information. Lynda Leigh Health Promoting School Nurse Battle of the School Bands Last week Katherine High School had two entrants in the 2016 Battle of the Bands - a duo called Sweet Oasis, and a band, Ashes of the Phoenix. These entrants wrote and performed their own songs before an audience at Brown s Mart in Darwin. Although no prizes were awarded to our entrants, all involved had an enjoyable time meeting and jamming with other musicians from around the Territory. Year 12 Student Achievement A big congratulations to Matt Jackson for completing a two week training camp for Soccer in Glasgow. From all accounts it was a successful trip where Matt adapted to the rain, accents and high intensity training to showcase his soccer talent. We wish Matt the best of luck with the rest of his Soccer career. A big congratulations to Rickie Casey who over the holidays gained his certificate to fly a plane solo. This is a fantastic achievement and one that helps him on his way to his dream of being a pilot in the air force when he leaves school. Emma Ferguson Year 12 Coordinator Rugby League On Tuesday 19th April Katherine High School played in their second match of the Parramatta Cup against Casuarina Senior College. Our boys showed their discipline by beating their opposition 36-4. Man of the match was shared between Ralph Gumban and Jett Hill. Rodney Cremona Year 11 Coordinator/ Rugby League
