SATURDAY NIGHT S ALRIGHT: The Dodgers tonight continue their six-game homestand (0-1) with the second of three contests against the division-rival San Diego Padres. Los Angeles is 8-6 against San Diego this season, including a 4-4 mark at Dodger Stadium. Following the series with the Padres, the Dodgers host the Arizona Diamondbacks Monday-Wednesday, before heading out on a 10-game road trip, their longest of the season. The Dodgers 42-27 record at home (.609) is the second best in the National League, trailing only the Cubs (50-19,.725). Los Angeles is in pursuit of its fourth consecutive divisional title and continues to lead the NL West, 2.0 games ahead of the San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers need two wins to clinch the season series with San Diego for the sixth consecutive season. Los Angeles is 69-38 against the Padres since the start of the 2011 season. DOING IT ALL: Corey Seager, a strong Rookie of the Year and MVP candidate, ranks among the NL leaders in hits, (162, 4 th ), runs (88, 5 th ), doubles (37, 3 nrd ), total bases (274, 5 th ), batting average (.312, T-7 th ), multi-hit games (47, 4 th ), extra-base hits (63, 6 th ) and slugging percentage (.528, 11 th ). Seager s 23 home runs are the most ever by a Dodger shortstop and are tied for the third most by a Los Angeles rookie with Frank Howard (1960) and behind only Mike Piazza (35, 1993) and Joc Pederson (26, 2015). He already holds the Los Angeles record for doubles by a rookie, trailing only Johnny Frederick (52, 1929) for the franchise mark, and is approaching the team single-season rookie leaders in most major offensive categories: Los Angeles Rookie Leaders, Since 1958 Category Seager (Rank) Leader Hits 162 (3 rd ) Sax (180, 1982) Runs 88 (T-1 st ) Sax (88, 1982) Doubles 37 (1 st ) Seager Home Runs 23 (T-3rd) Piazza (35, 1993) Average.312 (2 nd ) Piazza (.318, 1993) SLG.528 (2 nd ) Piazza (.561, 1993) OBP.373 (1 st ) Piazza (.370, 1993) The Dodgers and Padres have both found themselves relying on the power of rookies: MLB Teams, Most Total HR by Rookies in 2016 Los Angeles Dodgers 42 Colorado Rockies 40 Minnesota Twins 31 San Diego Padres 30 URCE: STATS, LLC GOLDEN GLOVEWORK: The Dodgers have been the Majors best fielding team this year, topping the big leagues in fielding percentage (.988) and committing the fewest errors of any team (61, tied with Washington). Since the All-Star break, the Dodgers rank among the Majors best in team batting average (.267, 6 th ), slugging percentage (.445, 5 th ) and runs per game (5.02, 4 th ). The Dodgers slugging percentage is on pace to be the highest in Los Angeles history after the All-Star break, outpacing the previous mark of.434 set in 2008. Howie Kendrick tied a season high with four hits last night, collected his fifth four-hit game of the season which leads the National League. No other Dodger has more than three fourhit contests. Kendrick is hitting.444 (16-for-36) with four doubles, two homers and five RBI in 11 games with San Diego this season. PULL UP A CHAIR: Charter announced yesterday it has an agreement to broadcast six Dodger games on KTLA5, including Vin Scully Appreciation Day and the final series of the 2016 regular season against the San Francisco Giants. Beginning Friday, September 23 at 6:15 p.m. PT, Charter will simulcast the first of six Dodger games on SportsNet LA and KTLA5. The telecast on September 23 will also feature the live pregame ceremony honoring Scully, who is stepping down after 67 seasons in the booth following the 2016 campaign. I KNOW YOU GUYS: Dodger catcher and former Padre Yasmani Grandal went 1-for-4 last night, but is hitting.394 (13-for-33) with four homers, eight RBI and a 1.200 OPS in nine games vs. San Diego this season. The switch-hitter has not homered in his last nine games after going deep five times in the 12 games previous to that. THE BIG MAN: Kenley Jansen picked up his 40 th save of the season Wednesday night, posting just the seventh 40-save season (his second, also: 2014, 44) in franchise history. This season, Jansen ranks among the National League s best in A (1.88, 4 th ), opponents batting average (.152, T-2 nd ), saves (40, 2 nd ), WHIP (0.68, 1 st MLB) and strikeouts (84 in 57.1 innings, 5 th ). KING OF THE HILL: Left-hander Rich Hill will make his second start for the Dodgers, after being scratched from his start against the Rockies last week due to a combination of weather and a finger blister. In Hill s only other start at Dodger Stadium on Aug. 24 vs. SF, he was dominant, allowing five hits and no walks in 6.0 scoreless innings. Overall, Hill is unbeaten in his last nine starts since May 7 with a career-best seven-game winning streak, going 7-0 with a 1.80 A (10 /50.0 IP), a.188 opponents batting average (34-for-181) and 52 strikeouts against just 15 walks in that span. A RANCHO PARTY DON T STOP: L.A. has had 27 players on the DL this year, which ties the 2012 Boston Red Sox for the most by a team in the last 30 years. Tonight, in addition to rehabbing veteran Andre Ethier, who is expected to play right field for the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, a couple of recognizable southpaws are set to toe the rubber in Rancho. Three-time Cy Young Award winner and 2014 NL MVP Clayton Kershaw will get the start for the Quakes at 7:05 p.m. and is expected to go 3.0 innings or about 45-50 pitches in his first rehab start. Kershaw last pitched in the Majors June 26 at Pittsburgh and has been out with a herniated disc. Ethier is hitting.381 (8-for-21) with three doubles and two RBI in six rehab games with the Quakes. Lefty Brett Anderson will take the mound after Kershaw and is scheduled to go 5.0 innings or 75-80 pitches in his first rehab start since going on the DL Aug. 23 with a finger blister.
