APPENDIX I: EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS PAGE 1 REGULATIONS FOR THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 1. DEFINITION 1.1 Individual European Championships shall be played every year, except for years where European Games are held, and where badminton is part of the sports program. Individual European Championships shall include men s singles and doubles, women s singles and doubles, and mixed doubles, and they shall all be conducted in accordance with existing Rules and Regulations adopted by Badminton Europe. 1.2 The winners of each event shall be regarded as European Champions and they shall be presented by Badminton Europe with gold medals to commemorate their success. Runners-up in all events shall be presented with silver medals and losing semi-finalists with bronze medals. All such medals shall be suitably inscribed. 2. PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS 2.1 Any Member Association may apply to stage the European Championships and such application shall be sent to Badminton Europe. 2.2 The allocation of the Championships shall be made by the Badminton Europe Board of Directors at a date of its choosing. 2.3 The venue shall provide sufficient conditions according to the Specifications for International Play. 3. RIGHTS Badminton Europe owns all rights and commercial activities, including but not limited to internet, television, radio, sound, moving pictures, players images and logos, in connection with the event. In determining the financial arrangements at each venue with the organising Member Association, Badminton Europe may grant licences and concessions in respect of such rights, including the direct grant of all or part of such rights to the organising Member Association and/or commercial organisations. 4. RESPONSIBILITIES & FINANCE 4.1 The Board of Directors shall allocate responsibility for hosting the Championships on organisational, financial and commercial terms and conditions it agrees with the hosting Member Association. 4.2 A sanction fee shall be charged by Badminton Europe (see Financial Regulation D). 4.3 Every Member Association taking part in the European Championships shall be responsible for all expenses incurred by its players and officials including travel, hotel accommodation and other expenses. 4.4 An entry fee shall be paid for each competitor in singles events and each pair in doubles events and mixed doubles. Entry fees are listed in Financial Regulation D. 4.5 The organising Association is exempted from paying an entry fee for their participating players/pairs. 4.6 If a player departs early, for any reason whatsoever, and such action conflicts with the player s ability to play or complete his/her scheduled matches, the player s Member Association shall be penalised by an administrative fine of 1.000,00 EUR.

APPENDIX I: EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS PAGE 2 4.7 If a medal winning player is not present at the medal ceremony, for any reason whatsoever, the player s Member Association shall be penalised by an administrative fine of 1.500,00 EUR. 5. GENERAL ORGANISATION 5.1 Badminton Europe shall be responsible for the organisation of the European Championships. 5.2 The Championships shall be conducted in accordance with the Laws of badminton and all appropriate Competition Regulations as adopted by the BWF and/or Badminton Europe. 5.3 The Referee and Deputy Referee(s) shall be appointed by Badminton Europe. 5.4 Umpires shall be appointed by Badminton Europe. 5.5 Badminton Europe shall appoint a Committee of Management of at least four persons, of whom two shall be from Badminton Europe, and one shall be nominated by the organiser. In addition, the Referee shall be member of this Committee. The Committee of Management shall be in overall charge of the Championships. 6. FILING OF ENTRIES 6.1 Not later than four months before the date of the Championships, Badminton Europe shall send to all Member Associations an invitation to compete. 6.2 Entries may be submitted only by Member Associations and shall be confirmed/sent so as to reach the address quoted in the letter of invitation not later than the closing date notified in the invitation. 6.3 Entries shall be eligible as described in Appendix A to these Regulations. 6.4 The Board of Directors shall have the power to reject an entry of any Member Association: 6.4.1 which contains a condition unresolved at the time entries close; 6.4.2 whose entry is considered against the interest of the Championships or the game; or 6.4.3 in cases specified in Badminton Europe Rules (e.g. Rule I.3 and I.8) 7. SEEDING 7.1 The European Championships shall be seeded in accordance with BWF Competition Regulation paragraph 12. 8. SUBSTITUTIONS 8.1 A player/pair may participate in an event of the European Championships only if the player's/pair's entry is confirmed/made by the closing date for entries as announced by Badminton Europe. 8.2 After the closing date for entries but before the seeding is announced, a player who has entered may be unable to take part through illness, injury, or other unavoidable cause. That player's place in singles or doubles or both can be taken by a player from the same Member Association provided the player or pair would have qualified for that Member Association at the qualification phase but was not entered due to the Member Association already having filled its quota. 8.3 No changes or substitutions of any kind can be made after the seeding has been announced.

ELIGIBILITY TO COMPETE 9.1 Participation shall be restricted to players in good standing with their Member Associations and a player s eligibility to compete shall be in accordance with BWF Competition Regulations 8.2. 9.2 Acceptance of nomination for entry to the European Championships shall count as international representation as described in BWF Competition Regulation 8.3. 10. DRAW & TIMETABLE 10.1 The intended outline timetable for the playing of each event shall be fixed and circulated not later than three weeks before the commencement of the Championships. 10.2 The draw shall be made in accordance with the BWF Competition Regulation paragraph 12. 10.3 The tournament shall be played as a simple knock-out draw. 11. PLAYING OBLIGATIONS OF PARTICIPANTS 11.1 Any participant (Member Association, Player or Official) failing to comply with the regulations set in this Appendix may be penalised following the Badminton Europe s Disciplinary Regulations. 11.2 The possible penalties shall be: 11.2.1 administrative fines, imposed by the Chairman of Badminton Europe s Major Events Commission, 11.2.2 any penalty as defined by the Badminton Europe s Disciplinary Regulations. 12. CLOTHING REGULATIONS 12.1 Clothing must comply with the existing BWF Regulations. 12.2 Colour of players clothing s; 12.2.1 In singles matches it is mandatory that, from the quarter finals onwards, the opposing players in each match wear different colours from each other. 12.2.2 The player ranked lower on the BWF World Ranking used for the seeding will be required to wear clothing of a significant different colour. Where both players have the same or no ranking, the player listed lower in the draw will be required to change the colour of clothing. 12.2.3 In doubles matches it is mandatory for doubles partners to wear the same colour. It is mandatory that, from the quarter finals onwards, the opposing pairs in each match wear different colours from each other. 12.2.4 The pair ranked lower on the BWF World Ranking used for the seeding will be required to wear clothing of a significant different colour. Where both pairs have the same or no ranking, the player listed lower in the draw will be required to change the colour of clothing. 12.3 Player names; 12.3.1 The name of the player on the back of the shirt is mandatory. 12.4 Association names;

ADVERTISING ON PLAYERS CLOTHING 13.1 Advertising on players clothing must comply with the existing BWF Regulations. 14. RESPONSIBILITY OF REFEREE 14.1 The responsibilities of the Referee in the Championships are: 14.1.1 to be in charge of the Championships; 14.1.2 to ensure that the stipulated procedure and order of play is adhered to and that all players comply with the Regulations for play; 14.1.3 to make decision on any matter upon appeal being made by a Team Manager; 14.1.4 to uphold the laws of badminton and regulations relevant for the Championships: 14.2 the Referee is required to send a written report to Badminton Europe no later than two weeks after the completion of the Championships. 15. TEAM MANAGER 15.1 Each Member Association concerned shall appoint a Manager of its entered players at least fourteen days before the commencement of the Championships. 15.2 In default of such appointment, the entered players shall forthwith choose its own Manager. 15.3 As soon as appointed, the name of the Manager shall be notified to Badminton Europe. 15.4 From the time of arrival at the venue, the Manager shall assume all administrative and other responsibilities on behalf of the relevant Member Association and team in connection with the conduct of the Championships. 15.5 The Team Manager shall attend any briefing meeting called by the Referee. Failure to do so shall result in an administrative fine of 250,00 EUR. 16. PENALTIES 16.1 The Referee shall have the power to disqualify at any stage of the Championships: 16.1.1 any player which has seriously failed to comply with the regulations set in this Appendix, the BEC Rules or other BEC Regulations or the BWF Regulations and has by doing so harmed or endangered the fairness of the competition (breach of a regulation which anticipates an administrative fine is not considered as a serious failure to comply with the regulations); or 16.1.2 a player breaching the Anti-Doping Regulations. 16.2 If a player or a pair is disqualified, such a player or pair may also be penalised by a fine, ban from competition and return of awarded prizes. 16.3 Any participant (Member Association, Player or Official) failing to comply with the regulations set in this Appendix may be penalised following the Badminton Europe s Disciplinary Regulations.

APPENDIX I: EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS PAGE 5 16.4 The possible penalties shall be: 16.4.1 administrative fines, imposed by the Chairman of Badminton Europe s Major Events Commission, 16.4.2 any penalty as defined by the Badminton Europe s Disciplinary Regulations. 17. MISCELLANEOUS 17.1 The Badminton Europe Board of Directors interprets any dubious regulations included in this document. If a quick decision is needed, the Chairman of Badminton Europe s Major Events Commission may make an interpretation which is valid until the decision by the Badminton Europe Board of Directors is taken. 17.2 The Board of Directors has power on behalf of Badminton Europe to make and publish amendments to these Regulations.
