TECHNICAL RULES FOR ISF WSC BADMINTON UPDATED MARCH 17, 2018

The competition will be run according to current ISF and BWF rules under the direction of the ISF Technical Commission for BADMINTON. 1. Specific ISF regulations are: a. The competition is open both to school teams (2 x 24) and to selected teams (2 x 8). b. There will be a competition organised in the following categories: school teams, boys, school teams, girls, selected teams, boys, selected teams, girls. c. Each country may enter only one team in each category. d. Each competitor may only compete in one team. 2. All players of the school team must have been enrolled at the same school since the beginning of the school year. 3. All players of the selected team must have been enrolled at a school in the country concerned since the beginning of the school year. 4. Students aged 18, 17, 16 and 15 years on 31 December of the year of the World Schools Championship concerned can participate 2 5. Each team shall be composed of at least 4 students, but 5 at the most and 1 teacher/coach (Non Playing Captain). 6. Each country which enters 1 or 2 teams must provide 1 umpire; a country entering 3 or 4 teams must provide 2 umpires. All umpires shall be in possession of a national (highest level) or international qualification. 7. The players must be enrolled as full-time students at the school which they represent. They must be attending schools which provide a general education. The following are not eligible to participate: a. pupils of vocational schools who only attend that school as a complement to their vocational training, b. school teams and pupils enrolled at schools which provide sports training without any general education, c. part-time (e.g. afternoon) sports schools which take pupils from a variety of schools for training in one or more sports, d. teams formed as part of clubs, companies, universities or other institutions. 8. Each participating team must be nominated officially by the organisation responsible for school sport and which is member of ISF. 9. Only players, registered on the team s list handed in at the accreditation, are authorized to take part in this competition. 10. Mixed teams are not allowed.

11. System of the competition: a. Modalities of the drawing of lots: The draw for the team championships shall be made when the registrations are closed. The Organising Committee/President of the Technical Commission shall determine the time and place of the draw. The draw will take into account the results of the three previous ISF Badminton World Schools Championships. The top eight teams from each year shall be awarded 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 points respectively for seeding purposes. The results of the previous event (2 years) shall be awarded 100% of the points, the preceding event (4 years previous) 50% of these points and the one preceding that (6 years previous) 25%. If after the draw, one or more teams withdraw from the event, the ISF Technical Commission may adjust the draw to equalize the number of teams in each group. The President of the ISF Badminton Technical Commission or an ISF representative shall be invited to attend and conduct the draw. The ISF office shall publish the draw in the bulletin n 2 in order to inform all countries accordingly. b. The competition system will depend upon the final number of entries in the event. It starts with groups (in each group all teams play all other teams) followed by a knockout stage. Teams will be placed in preliminary groups of at least 3 teams. The proposed groupings are as follows: - 7 teams (or less) 1 group (all play all) - 8 teams 2 groups of 4 teams (all play all + play offs) - 9 teams 1 group of 5 teams and 1 group of 4 teams (all play all + play offs) - 10 teams 2 groups of 5 teams (all play all + play offs) - 11 teams 1 group of 6 teams and 1 group of 5 teams (all play all + play offs) - 12 teams 2 groups of 6 teams (all play all + play offs) - 13 teams 2 groups of 4 teams and 1 group of 5 teams (all play all + play offs) - 14 teams 2 groups of 5 teams and 1 group of 4 teams (all play all + play offs) - 15 teams 3 groups of 5 teams (all play all + play offs) - 16 teams 4 groups of 4 teams (all play all + play offs) - 17 teams 3 groups of 4 teams and 1 group of 5 teams (all play all + play offs) - 18 teams 2 groups of 4 teams and 2 groups of 5 teams (all play all + play offs) - 19 teams 3 groups of 5 teams and 1 group of 4 teams (all play all + play offs) - 20 teams 4 groups of 5 teams (all play all + play offs) - 21 teams 4 groups of 4 teams and 1 group of 5 teams (all play all + play offs) - 22 teams 3 groups of 4 teams and 2 groups of 5 teams (all play all + play offs) - 23 teams 3 groups of 5 teams and 2 groups of 4 teams (all play all + play offs) - 24 teams 6 groups of 4 teams (all play all + play offs) 3 The President of the Technical Commission holds at the disposal of the organizers the grid systems for play off places. The office of the ISF to propose examples of global schedule of the event The LOC must think to adapt the schedule for team matches in accordance with the teams really present. c. Finishing Positions in Groups Finishing position in groups shall be decided by the following criteria in order: 1) Ties won 2) If 2 teams are equal the result of the tie between the teams 3) If 3 or more teams are equal the total of individual matches won within the group

If 2 teams are still equal the result of the tie between the teams 5)b. If 3 or more teams are still equal points difference within the group 6)a. If 2 teams are still equal the result of the tie between the teams 6)b. If 3 or more teams are still equal the teams are placed in order of total age with the youngest first. d. Teams may be expected to play in consecutive sessions. e. Each tie (all 5 matches) will be played on 1 court. But in case of delay on 1 court, it will be possible to use another court if 1 court is free. f. Each tie consists of two double matches and three single matches. The order of play is: Double 1/ Double 2/ Single 1/ Single 2/ Single 3. g. All 5 matches of each tie shall be played. A time of 2 ½ hours will be allowed for each tie. h. Beside exceptional circumstances, teams arriving for accreditation with less than four players, the ISF Technical Commission of Badminton and the ISF Delegate will decide if the team can take part at the event. In case of an injury: - Before handing over your team composition of the tie, for a team of only 4 players (going to 3 players ) the team will lose the second double - After the start of the tie no replacement i. All matches shall be player with shuttlecocks that comply with BWF regulations. 4 j. The system of play shall depend on the final number of entries in the tournament. The length of matches may be shortened in the event of a large number of teams taking part. k. Each team shall consist of 4 or 5 players: 5 matches shall be played in each tie. School team members must be entered in the order of their official ranking confirmed at accreditation (from 1 to 4/5). Selected team members can be entered in a free ranking order. l. The school team coach is free to change his/her team for each new tie provided that he respects the order of entry. The order of play shall be the following: Double n 1: the highest ranked participating of the four double player + another player Double n 2: the other two players Single n 1: the highest ranked participating single players Single n 2: the second highest ranked participating single players Single n 3: the third highest ranked participating single players The ISF Technical Commission and the Referee(s) are free to modify the ranking of the players in the team in function of what happen during the beginning of the tournament. m. The selected team coach is free to change his/her team for each new tie. The order of play shall be the following: Double n 1: free to choose* Double n 2: free to choose* Single n 1: free to choose** Single n 2: free to choose** Single n 3: free to choose** *4 different players will play in the doubles ** 3 different players will play in the single matches

n. Clothing Indeed there is a sponsoring restriction according to the rules of BWF but we will deal with it in a gentle way. It doesn t matter if you don t have your name on the back or if the logo s are a little bit too big according to the BWF regulation. We want to avoid too big advertisements of sponsors or schools and we expect your country's name to be mentioned on the track-suit. o. Uniform clothing It s compulsory for the teams to show up during all official moments in uniform clothing/track-suit (opening ceremony, presentation of the teams...). It s compulsory for the partners of the doubles to start their double match with the same shirt. 12. Match Procedures a. Regulations All matches will be played according to the current official BWF regulations. However matches may be shortened if the number of teams entered does not allow sufficient time. b. Match Procedure For each TIE between two countries a team shall consist of a minimum of 4 players. The team composition will be hand over to a member of the TC at least 1 hour before the start of the tie. But, if the team has to play 2 matches in a row the team composition will be expected within 5 minutes after the end of the last match. It will be hand over in a closed envelope. Each singles and doubles match will be played as the best of three sets. One Coach or Nominated Person may sit on court with the player(s). They must sign and follow the Captains on Court regulations. 5 NB. Additional information will be included in bulletin 1 and/or 2 of the relevant event.
