ZTA Fall Recruitment Manual v Introduction Sorority fall recruitment is the busiest time of year for sororities. It requires a lot of practice and perfection. We memorize songs, chants, ZTA facts and many other steps to a successful recruitment. This manual is designed to give instructions on what is needed for a perfect recruitment. Taking the time to know the material in this manual will enhance your recruitment skills. When we put the newly learned skills to the test we will achieve top notch new members for ZTA. We are in search of the future members of our chapter, it is important to find the best members to lead our chapter. It is going to be tiring, stressful and your feet will kill you at the end of the day, but it will be worth it. When recruitment is over and we find our new members you will not even remember the stress. With all of that said keep this manual close by at all times during recruitment, know all of its contents and be prepared for hard work, and also a perfect recruitment.

Chapter Two Information and Themes for Recruitment

Chapter Two 9 Day 1: Basics On day one there is not a specific theme. On day one conversations with PNMs will mainly consist of the following: Where are they from? How did moving into the dorms go? What dorm are they living in? What is their major? Are they excited for their first day of classes? Do they know where all of their classes are located? What activities were they involved in during high school? Why made them decide to go Greek? The conversations are meant to just skim the surface, nothing to deep. On day one you are mostly looking to make an acquaintance. Day 2: House Tour On day two we give the PNMs a tour of our house. This means the conversations will mostly consist of topics about living in the house, here are a few things to remember when talking about the house: Living in a Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority house can be the highlight of your college years. The cost for room and board is typically lower than living in the dormitory and the benefits provide a unique experience for personal and social growth. The unique residential environment of ZTA housing provides: A positive, developmental living opportunity A safe, secure and healthy environment Adult supervision-house director A smoke and alcohol free facility Quiet study areas

10 ZTA Fall Recruitment Manual Internet access including wireless Laundry facilities, storage space, large living space A close-knit neighborhood in Greek community Within walking distance of campus Family-like support for the challenges of college life A home away from home The opportunity to live with 25 Best Friends! Day 3: Philanthropy Day three is all about out Philanthropy: Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. There is a lot of facts to remember for this day. We are very fortunate to have the philanthropy that we do and we want to relay as many facts about it as possible so that PNMs will love it as much as we do. Here are the things to remember for conversation: History In 1992, ZTA adopted the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation as its national philanthropy Later, ZTA added the education means dedicated to fighting breast cancer through educations, awareness and promoting breast health. Today, Our National philanthropy is Breast Cancer Education and Awareness Race for the Cure Since 1992, ZTA has been the national sponsor for the Survivor Recognition Program at the Race As part of the survivor program, ZTA also provides pink In Memory Of and In Celebration Of back signs for participants to wear during the Race for the Cure events, so they can race in honor of a friend of loved one. The ZTA foundation has donated more than $2 million to Komen for the Cure since 1992

Chapter Two 11 More than 5,000 Zetas volunteer for more than 50,000 hours each year to support more than 100 race events nationwide. Award Winning Books Two Zeta Tau Alpha members have published award-winning books that chronicle their battles against breast cancer at very young ages. The most famous is Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy by Geralyn Lucas. This was made into a lifetime movie and ZTA was honored as Breast Cancer Hero s at the premiere in 2006.

12 ZTA Fall Recruitment Manual THINK-PINK! In 2004, THINK-PINK! became a registered trademark of ZTA Since 1992 Zetas have distributed 9.8 million shower cards with instructions of the proper method for breast self-examination (BSE) to spread the message of early detection. THINK-PINK! Ribbons were added to the breast cancer education and awareness promotions in 1997. Since that time, 5 million have been distributed. THINK-PINK! Ribbons are attached to information cards and people wear the ribbons to show awareness of and support for those surviving breast. In addition, the ZTA foundation has developed display items, banners, education brochures, and volunteer t-shirts to support the cause

Chapter Two 13 Yoplait Lids ZTA collects Yoplait lids by collecting these lids, we have donated over $30,000 to find the cure of breast cancer ZTA is partnered with Self magazine to promote a healthy lifestyle and challenges women to start eating right with the SELF challenge. That concludes the conversation pieces for day three. It is important to remember many of these details about our philanthropy and to relay to the PNMs how passionate we are about it. If they fully understand how important this is to us it will make them want to be a part of it also. Day Four: Preference Night Tonight is the most important night. On this night you are looking for someone you potentially want to call your sister one day. It is a very delicate and pure night. The conversations will mainly consist of: Why do they see themselves as a ZTA? You also want to explain to them the reasons you joined Zeta and the reasons you have stayed. In what ways do they see themselves contributing to zeta? Tell them what qualities we seem in them that makes them great for zeta.

14 ZTA Fall Recruitment Manual Those are the basic conversation pieces to remember for each day s topic. However if for some reason you become stuck in a awkward silent moment always remember your ZTA ABCs. Chapter Four Instructions for Bump Groups

Chapter Four 21 Bump Group Instructions Understanding how bumping works during recruitment is the most important feature of recruitment. When timed just right you should only talk to a PNM for about two minutes before you are bumped by a girl in your group. If the timing is off it could cause you to reach that awkward moment where you run out of conversations. I will give specific instructions on how bumping works within your bump groups. Example Group One: Devin Thompson Stefani Hartley Courtney Nguyen Taylor Parker You need to understand who your bump partner is. In the example it would be: Devin is Stefani s partner Stefani is Courtney s partner, Courtney is Taylor s Partner, and Taylor is Devin s partner. This is crucial to remember. Steps: 1. Sit in the chapter room at your designated chair if you are number three through four of your group. Devin will start in the hall, and the other three will be at their designated chairs with PNMS. 2. Say your ABCs if you are the girl starting in the hall. Devin will start in the hall and this will help keep track of the amount of time you are supposed to be in the hall. 3. The person in the hall will now bump their partner. This is when Devin will walk to where Stefani is talking to a PNM and kneel down beside them. 4. Introduce the person bumping to the PNM, and tell them what you are currently talking about. Stefani will introduce Devin to the PNM, and explain what they were talking about. This is my sister Devin, Devin we were just talking about the new Business Building 5. The person who gets bumped will then go to the hallway and say their ABCs in their head until they need to bump their partner. Stefani will now go to the hallway until she bumps Courtney This concludes the steps for Bump Groups. You will continue to repeat the steps one through five for about thirty minutes, until the current party is over. On the first day there are about nine parties, second day about seven parties, third day about four parties and the fourth and final days there will be two parties. Bumping will work the same the first

22 ZTA Fall Recruitment Manual through third day, on Preference Night you will not bump; you will talk to one PNM for thirty minutes.
