MRA Regatta January 9 th & 10 th 2016 Welcome to Lake Moodemere and the 150 th M.R.A. Rowing Regatta. The committee of the M.R.A. would like all those attending this regatta to keep in mind the cultural significance of the lake and treat the local environment with respect. Regatta Information As a special 150 th medallion has been struck for this regatta, there will be limited wine will be available to the winning Masters Crews this year. As your boat trailers arrive at the regatta venue, we would be appreciative if the trailers could be pushed back to the rear of the mown area and that boats are not too spread out. This is to ensure that we can fit all of the boats and boat trailers into the boating area. There will be clearly marked lane ways to allow crews to move their boats to the launching and retrieval areas. Once again, we would be appreciative if the spectator shelters are not to be erected in the marked lane ways to the launch and retrieval points. Finally to ensure ease of movement around the boating area, can everyone please ensure that vehicles are parked in the allocated areas and not in the boating area. For anyone without accommodation, last minute accommodation can be sought through either the Rutherglen or Corowa visitor information centres. There are plenty of dining and entertainment options over the weekend. The staff at the visitor information centres can also assist with these enquires. The Sunday races feature the sprint races over 500m, and in particular the Victorian Sprint Championships for all the open events. Bow Numbers. As always with every regatta, to ensure that the regatta can stay on time, we ask that all competitors when they are collecting their bow numbers to know their race number and their lane number. This will greatly assist in managing the queues for the bow numbers. We also ask that the bow numbers are returned promptly at the end of each race. D Grade Events. Due to the size of the entries and the program, for this regatta only, there will be no B and C Finals for all D Grade events.
At the regatta site, we would like to bring the following potential risks to your attention: 1. Old Gum Trees: Limbs from gum trees can fall without warning. Please park in areas away from overhanging branches. Please also take note of potential overhanging branches when setting up shade shelters etc. 2. Fire. Depending upon the weather conditions over the 2 days and other factors, fire could be a risk. The lake reserve has been declared a total fire ban area for the duration of the regatta. 3. Emergency Procedure: In an emergency; a. please keep the main access road clear b. The assembly area is at the boat launch area at the foreshore of the lake c. Wait for directions over the public address system. d. In case of fire, do not attempt to leave by car. This could prevent emergency vehicles from entering the reserve and put you at further risk if a fire was present in the area. e. Members from Surf Life Saving Victoria are in attendance for minor injuries. In case of an accident or major injury, the SLSV and the regatta staff will take control of the situation and advise on the best course of action. 4. Please remember that the lake can be shallow and diving could result in a serious injury. 5. In case of capsizing, the Life Saving Victoria rescue boat will be on the water at all times, and the race umpire s boat will follow each event, so please stay calm and stay with your boat. 6. Water. Water from the lake is not suitable for drinking. Fresh water is available at the regatta site, courtesy of North East Water. 7. Rubbish bins are provided around the regatta site. Please dispose of your rubbish thoughtfully. We also ask for everyone s assistance by cleaning up all the rubbish at the end of the regatta. 8. The MRA advises against swimming in the lake due to the potential risk of blue green algae being present in the water.
