FLORIDA INTERCOLLEGIATE ROWING ASSOCIATION 2018 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS April 6-7, 2018 2000m at Cooper Creek, Nathan Benderson Park Sarasota FIRA Championships will again be held at the site of this year s FISA World Rowing Championships, Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota. As a reminder, county ordinances mandate that there be NO ALCOHOL ON THE PREMISES. Also, there are NO PETS ALLOWED other than personal guide assistant dogs. Please instruct your crews and alumni booster associations accordingly. HEATS: Heats and Division 1 races will be FRIDAY afternoon, April 7. The initial schedule for heats on Friday is attached. Heats are currently based on historical data for entries that have required heats in the past. If there are new events that go into heats, they will be added to the back end of Friday s schedule. NOTE: An eight (8) lane final may be run when possible to avoid heats. All blind boats will be limited to a 6 boat final. The 7 th blind boat will cause heats in that event. B entries (second boat entry from single institution) cannot cause heats. FINAL HEATS SCHEDULE WILL BE POSTED ON THE WEB at http://www.firarowing.org or on the FIRA Facebook Page. http://www.facebook.com/firarowing ABOVE TIMES ARE PRELIMINARY. REGATTA TIME will be available at the headquarters tent. LIGHTWEIGHT WEIGH-INS: Friday at 3:00pm. Saturday from 7:00am 9:00am. Athletes will weigh-in with racing attire with a one-pound allowance. ELIGIBILITY/WAIVERS: It is necessary to have your athletes or legal guardian sign the waiver. Waivers are to be filed out online at http://www.noara.org/index.php?option=com_chronocontact&chronoformname=waiver_fira. All waivers for your entire roster (including substitutes) must be filled out prior to gaining access to the race course. The FIRA eligibility roster listing athletes and their racing status on race day must also be submitted prior to gaining access to the course. A school administrator outside the rowing organization must sign off on submitted team rosters. Outstanding membership dues, additional entry fees, boating forms, waivers and scratch fees must be submitted to the headquarters on Friday afternoon, before the heats begin. The FIRA treasurer will be on-site and will be responsible for receiving forms and proper assessment and collection of scratch fees and penalty fees prior to the offending institution(s) launching its first entered event. See additional FIRA eligibility information below. ENTRY PROCEDURES: Information will be distributed via the FIRA list server (fira@lists.fit.edu). If you are not on the mailing list email the registrar below. Registrar: John Corelli Mobile: 321-917-0149 e-mail: bikerjohnc@gmail.com (home) jcorelli@aeronix.com (work) All entries, scratches and inquiries are to be sent to the above email addresses. No Fax, mail-in or phone entries will be accepted. Entries and scratches will only be accepted from the HEAD COACH or COACHING STAFF from each particular institution. No entries will be accepted from club presidents, board members or other noncoaching individuals.

The following is the timetable to be used for processing and posting entries, scratches and lane assignments. FIRA Regatta Entry/Posting Timetable Entries Due March 23, Friday 5:00pm To: John Corelli (see above for contact information) Initial Entries Posted March 26, Monday 9:00am By: John Corelli Scratch Deadline March 31, Saturday 5:00pm To: John Corelli Penalties may be imposed after the 5:00pm scratch deadline. Final Entries Posted March 31, Saturday 9:00pm By: John Corelli Seeding shall be done for Varsity Eights and Varsity Fours events. Seedings will be completed by the seeding committee chaired by the FIRA VP (Adam Thorstad athorsta@fit.edu) Any optional seeding information for consideration should be sent to Adam no later than March 27. Aside from that, seeding will be based on available results that are posted on the usual outlets. Top four boats get seeded lanes with the remainder of the field getting assigned lanes on random draw (FIRA Fall Meeting, August 2013) Division I programs will be assigned lanes by random draw for Friday s racing. Saturday lane assignments will be based on Friday s results. Lane Assignments posted April 4, Tuesday 9:00pm By: John Corelli ENTRY FEES (per FIRA Fall 2016 meeting): For FIRA member programs: FIRA members receive 4 entries to the annual regatta upon payment of their $300 annual dues. All entries beyond the allotted four shall be assessed $75 per boat, with a fee cap of $400 for the sum of the additional entries. For non-fira schools (including guest institutions, but excluding D1 schools): Eights - $175 Fours - $125 Pairs/doubles/singles $75 Fee Cap for visitors: $800 men/$800 women (total fee cap $1600). Make checks payable to FIRA. For Division 1 Institutions (per FIRA Fall 2017 meeting): D1 institutions are provided races for V8, 2nd 8, 3rd 8, V4, and 2nd 4 in events to be run on Friday as well as Saturday morning (see schedule as a separate attachment). Entry fees for the total of ten (10) races is $750 for each institution. SCRATCHES: Scratches after the Saturday deadline will incur a penalty of $50 per boat. Penalties must be paid before any boat can race. Scratches accepted before race day only in writing by e-mail or standard mail. There is no fax available. You must receive a confirmation for your scratch to be accepted. A member institution can request an addition if it does not cause heats. Guest institutions can cause heats. Acceptance is at the Executive board's discretion.

If accepted, the add will be assigned to the first lane available after all correct entries are assigned lanes, (even if the add is 5 minutes after the entry deadline, and lanes have not even been assigned). Acceptance can be conditional, that is, the requesting institution can be put on hold pending any scratches. If scratches open up lanes, and do not eliminate heats, the addition can be allowed. Conditional add would be resolved at scratch deadline either way.
