16 April 2018 Hang Seng Table Tennis Academy Recognises Top Young Players at 2017 Annual Ceremony Hang Seng Bank and Hong Kong Table Tennis Association served up an event to remember today at the Hang Seng Table Tennis Academy s (HSTTA) Annual Ceremony (Ceremony), where Louisa Cheang, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive of Hang Seng Bank, played in a friendly match against men s world no. 7 Wong Chun Ting. The Ceremony was held to recognise the excellent performance of Hong Kong s outstanding young table tennis players in 2017. In competing against Wong Chun Ting, Louisa Cheang became the first female Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive of the Bank to play in a table tennis match at the Ceremony. Wong Chun Ting was joined at the event by fellow star players Doo Hoi Kem and Lee Ho Ching to present an autographed table tennis bat to Louisa Cheang on behalf of the Hong Kong Table Tennis Team, to thank Hang Seng for supporting their development as players and helping to nurture the next generation of young talent. During the Ceremony, Tsang Tsz Tsun was named Best Male Player, while Lee Chung Yan took home the award for Best Female Player. Another 2017 star was Pui Ching Primary School, which won the Most Supportive School Award for the first time. The Most Supportive School Award is given to the school with the highest participation rate in the Badges Scheme, an HSTTA assessment programme for different levels. 120 Pui Ching Primary School students participated in the Scheme last year. Officiating the Ceremony were Rebecca Lou, Assistant Director (Leisure Services) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department; Louisa Cheang; and Tony Yue, Chairman of the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association. More than 200 people attended to honour the achievements of Hong Kong s rising young table tennis stars. The event was held at the Penthouse, Hang Seng Bank Headquarters. Supporting the growth of table tennis in Hong Kong has been one of the Bank s best community investments, said Louisa Cheang. Many of the qualities we promote through HSTTA training and activities such as good sportsmanship, determination, self-discipline, learning from mistakes and keeping a positive attitude are also valuable for everyday life. Hang Seng Table Tennis Academy Recognises Top Young Players at 2017 Annual Ceremony / 2 Over the past 27 years, the partnership between the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association and Hang Seng Bank has been very rewarding, said Tony Yue. Our biggest achievement is HSTTA, which plays a key role in identifying and training top table tennis talent as well as providing a platform for Hong Kong players to pursue their sporting dreams in local and international arenas. HSTTA also helps encourage participation in table tennis across the community, ensuring the growth of this great sport for many years to come. Another highlight of the Ceremony was a video featuring Hong Kong Table Tennis Team members and HSTTA graduates Wong Chun Ting, Doo Hoi Kem and Lee Ho Ching demonstrating the passion and perseverance that supports their success in sporting event and everyday life. Since 1991, Hang Seng has donated more than HK$59 million to promote table tennis as a healthy and fun activity for people of all ages and backgrounds. Nearly 350,000 individuals have taken part in over 6,300 activities organised by HSTTA since its launch in 2001. HSTTA was established in partnership with the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association and with support from the LCSD to identify and nurture the development of talented young table tennis players with potential to become future sporting stars. Since HSTTA s launch in 2001, over 110 participants have become members of the Hong Kong Table Tennis Team and/ or Hong Kong Table Tennis Junior Team.
