We thank you for choosing us and we hope you have a fabulous experience! At Sparkle Dance Festival, we aim to create and foster a positive learning experience where dancers will feel enriched and encouraged while doing what they love! We also want this experience to be as uplifting for parents and teachers as it is for the dancers! We promote educational and informative adjudication sessions, combined with great sportsmanship, and always... A whole lot of Sparkle! Please use this document to fill out your registration forms. Our 2017 Festival Line Up March 18 & 19 Olds AB March 25 & 26 Red Deer AB March 31 to April 2 Stettler AB April 7, 8, 9 Camrose AB Introducing: Sparkle Bright! Dance Festival & Competition April 27, 28, 29 Camrose AB Sparkle Bright offers the same positive and uplifting atmosphere that we have provided our dancers, teachers and parents for 3 years, but with an added edge! Sparkle Bright will run in festival format and be combined with competition format. Each entry will be awarded a medal, and there will also be 3rd, 2nd & 1st place awards within every category. On-stage awards & choreography awards will also be presented at each adjudication, with top awards rounding off the end of the festival. Sparkle Bright is also open to ALL STUDIOS, regardless of city size.
Festival Guidelines Sparkle Dance Festival is open to small city, town, rural or recreational studios We are a Festival and as such we run on Festival Formatting; dancers are not against each other- all dancers receive medal placings within their categories All entries are categorized and adjudicated according to both Age & Level Good Sportsmanship is Mandatory- any negative connotations from dancers, teachers or audience members is prohibited and may result in studio disqualification Cheering and applause is welcomed and encouraged! The adjudicator s programs and sheets are completely blind; adjudication sheets are coded after adjudication sessions All adjudicator s decisions are final; concerns must be brought to Festival Directors prior to the conclusion of the Festival program Absolutely no photography or video recording permitted in the theatre Food & Drink is also prohibited in the dressing rooms and rehearsal halls Twinkle Tots (5yrs & under) are awarded their own medal standing; teacher assistance is welcomed and encouraged while these dancers perform For any other dancers that may require assistance (younger recreational dancers, dancers with special needs) please include this info on the registration form Advanced Entries: any dancer/group who dance(s) 8+ hours per week o Advanced entries are not adjudicated at a higher level of technique; but on an expectation of demonstrating a wellrounded and polished performance, as reflected by their advanced weekly studio time NEW please be mindful when registering groups; no corrections/changes to LEVELS, AGES or DISCIPLINES will be accepted after the program draft is sent out
Registration Information We have arranged our festival to incorporate both the dancers ages and levels into their category placement. Please refer to the Category Guide to find out how to determine each routine s category number. Levels are to be averaged amongst the group. To determine the Level, use the dancer(s) years of training in that discipline INCLUDING the current year, but do not count training taken before the age of 5 years old. *Round up for numbers ending in 0.5-0.9, round down for numbers ending in 0.4-0.1 o Jazz: use years of all Jazz training o Tap: use years of all Tap training o Character/Classical Ballet: use years of all Ballet training o Pointe: specify if the routine entry is pointe under the Character or Classical Ballet disciplines, use years of Pointe training o Lyrical/Contemporary: use years of Ballet or Jazz training, whichever is greater o Modern: use years of Modern or Ballet training, whichever is greater o Hip Hop: use years of all Hip Hop training o Musical Theatre/Novelty/Variety: use years of all Dance training o Acro: use years of Acrobatic training o Production: use years of training in whichever discipline encompasses the majority of the production s choreography Advanced Entries: any dancer/group who dance(s) 8+ hours per week Twinkle Tots: any dancer/group that is 5yrs & under *We understand that some routines have special circumstances; please let us know if you have any questions/concerns or are unsure about how to enter a routine! Sparkle Dance Festival: Discipline Guide Jazz: a routine consisting of a majority of Jazz technique Tap: a routine consisting of majority of Tap technique; no pre-recorded tap sounds Character Ballet: a routine consisting of a majority of Ballet technique, with an emphasis on portraying a character(s) while dancing; may also be danced on pointe Classical Ballet: a routine consisting of a majority of Ballet technique; may also be danced on pointe Lyrical: a routine consisting of a blend of both Jazz and Ballet techniques in a way to emote a feeling or tell a story using basic dance techniques and stylized movements Contemporary: a routine consisting of a majority of Contemporary technique Modern: a routine consisting of a majority of Modern technique Hip Hop: a routine consisting of a majority of Hip Hop technique Musical Theatre: a routine consisting of live singing and dancing; no pre-recorded vocals or lip syncing instrumental & karaoke song versions should be used Novelty: a routine consisting of singing and dancing; pre-recorded vocals are allowed Variety: a routine consisting of any not aforementioned dance disciplines; including Highland, National, Irish, Clogging etc as well as any other routine that does not fall into the above disciplines (Please include as many details as possible on registration form so as to better help us categorize your entry) Acro: a routine consisting of a majority of Acrobatic & dance technique; mats may be used Production: a routine consisting of any discipline of dance and a set/use of props routines can be up to 10 minutes in length with a 5 minute set up & take down; curtains may be closed during set up & take down providing the theatre venue is able Please Note: Contemporary & Modern routines will be categorized separately based on entries Musical Theatre/Novelty/Variety routines will also be categorized separately based on entries
Sparkle Dance Festival: Category Guide Please enter routines according to their level, class, sub-class, and age, according to the following information. Levels (years of dance training) Level 1: 0-2 yrs Level 2: 3-4 yrs Level 3: 5-6 yrs Level 4: 7-8 yrs Level 5: 9+ yrs Advanced: more than 8 hrs per week of dance training Twinkle Tots: any dancers under the age of 5 years old *Twinkle Tots will dance in their own category* Class (discipline): Class 1000 Jazz Class 2000 Tap Class 3000 Classical Ballet Class 4000 Character Ballet Class 5000 Lyrical Class 6000 Contemporary/Modern Class 7000 Hip Hop Class 8000 Musical Theatre/Novelty/Variety Class 9000 Acro Class 10,000 Production Sub-Class (routine size): 100-Solos 200-Duets 300-Small Group (3-5 dancers) 400- Medium Group (6-10 dancers) 500- Large Group (11-15 dancers) 600- Line (16+ dancers) Age As of March 1, 2017 *For Adult entries, please use 00 when entering their category number*
Entering A Routine s Category Number: 1) Level- according to average years of training 2) To determine your routines category number, first find the class number, then the sub-class number, followed by the age, and add together For example, a Jazz Small Group 12.2 years would be Class 1000, Sub-Class 300, Age 12; for a final category number of 1312 A Tap Large Group Age 7.5 years would be Class 2000, Sub-Class 500, Age 8; for a final category number of 2508 A Lyrical Duet Age 15.4 years would be Class 5000, Sub-Class 200, Age 15; for a category number of 5215 Ages are to be averaged and rounded up if between 0.5-0.9 and rounded down if between 0.4-0.1 please Birthdates are required for soloists only Dancers aged 5 years and under will dance in a Twinkle Tots category *To save time and make the registration process more efficient, we have decided to waive the procedure of writing out dancers names, ages, and years of training on the back of the forms. We trust that all forms will be filled out honestly, and that disqualification from our events due to mistreatment of this policy will not have to occur* Time Limits Solos- 2.5 minutes Duets- 2.5 minutes Small Groups- 3 minutes Medium Groups- 3.5 minutes Large Groups- 4 minutes Lines- 5 minutes Productions- 10 minutes (5 minute prop set-up & prop take-down limit) *Please let us know if any routine requires more than 1 minute prop set-up or take down.
