Welcome We hope you find this information useful as you put in the final preparations ahead of the blueseventy Big Swim Nottingham on 28 July 2018. The blueseventy Big Swim is now in its 8th year and we are pleased to welcome it back in 2018. We are fortunate as race organisers to be able to use fantastic venues such as the National Water Sports Centre. Please read through all the information supplied in this Race Guide. Registration Friday 27 July 12:00-18:00 Registration 12:00-18:00 Event Expo Saturday 28 July 09:00 Future Outlaw 09:00-12:45 Big Swim 2,500m & 5,000m Registration 13:00-15:30 Big Swim 1,500m Registration 10:00-17:00 Event Expo Big Swim Event Timings: 2.5k & 5k - 13:15-15:45 1.5k - 16:00-17:00 Sunday 29 July 06:00-23:00 Outlaw Triathlon Registration will take place in the large marquee on the grassed area above the main grandstand. All competitors must be registered no later than 30 minutes prior to the race start time. Please do not be late. Race numbers will be allocated when registering for the event. Please remember you will be required to show some form of photographic identification at registration. At registration you will be issued with your security wristband, swim cap and timing chip.
The Swim The swim will take place in the man made lake at the National Water Sports Centre. All swimmers will be required to pass over a check mat, 10 minutes before starting the swim. The swim will start in the water using the two left hand bays. This means that the swim start will be approximately 50 metres wide. The swim route is very simple. Each of the swims will start on the left-hand side & swim in a clockwise direction. The swim will follow these simple routes: Big Swim Cut-Off Times 5000m 2.5 hours in total You must have started your 2nd lap within 1 hour 15 minutes 2,500m 2.5 hours to complete 1,500m 1 hour to complete
There will be a drink station for the 5K as you come out of the water to do another lap. On the drink station there will be: water, coke, High5 gels and High5 Source: Citrus. Swim Map
The Venue Directions to National Water Sports Centre From the South: Turn off at junction 24 of the M1 take the A453 to Nottingham and then the A52 to Grantham. Follow signs to the National Water Sports Centre. From the North: Turn off at junction 26 of the M1 take the A610 and then the A52 to Grantham. Follow signs to the National Water Sports Centre. Sat-Nav users are advised to use the name National Water Sports Centre or Adbolton Lane, rather than the postcode as some Sat-Nav s will direct you to Colwick Race Course as opposed to the Centre. The National Water Sports Centre is a 10-minute drive from Nottingham train station.
Car Parking Spectator Information You will be required to pay 5.00 for parking. This can be paid either at the registration marquee, at the National Water Sports Centre reception or with a parking steward at the venue. Please make sure you have the correct cash. You will then be issued with a parking pass which you need to hang from your rear-view mirror, anyone attempting to exit the car park without a pass on display will be stopped and asked to pay the 5.00 parking fee. Your pass will cover parking for the weekend, if you would like to spectate at our other events across the weekend. Please note that we would recommend that no valuables are left in the vehicles at all and that anything valuable is kept in the secure lockers at the National Water Sports Centre. All vehicles are parked at owner s own risk. PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON THE ROAD AT ANY POINT DURING THE WEEKEND Spectators Where to go Perfect viewing areas are available around the National Water Sports Centre, none better than the purpose-built grandstand. For those who fancy following the swim, a grassed bank runs along both sides of the lake. Spectators will be welcome and encouraged to follow the swim from the grassed banks.
Frequently Asked Questions I ve finished the swim, what happens next? Once you have completed the whole of the swim course, you will exit via the slip way under the finish gantry. Please be careful as you exit the water so that you do not slip. Are there any prize categories for the event? Yes, there will be a winner for each age group category listed below: When will the presentations take place for the Big Swim? We will be hosting the presentations after the waves have taken place. The presentations will take place by the patio area behind the grandstand at the following times: 2,500m & 5,000m - 16:30 1,500m - 17:45 Are there any age restrictions for the event? The minimum age restrictions for these events are as follows: 5,000m & 2,500m Swim 13 years by 31 December 2018 1,500m Swim 11 years by 31 December 2018
Will there be someone taking photographs? SportCam will be photographing this event. All images will be uploaded to the SportCam website within 48 hours of the event finishing. Visit it at http://sportcam.net/ You can also take a photo with our selfie board after the event. Images will be available on the OSB Events Facebook page from Monday after the event. How do I get my results? Times will be displayed on the plasma screen in the foyer of the main building by the stairs. We are also hoping to provide live-to-web results on www.osbevents.com. Results will also be available to view on the OSB website from Monday. I can t take part in the event. Can I get my money back? Unfortunately, the date to receive a race credit has now passed. If you are unable to take part in the event please contact us on info@osbevents.com. Please do not allow anyone to register under your name as we check for photographic ID.. How can I contact someone from OSB Events before the event? You can contact us by phone (01522 699950) or by email info@osbevents.com The office will be closed from Wednesday 26 July at 17:00. Please do not send emails regarding this event after this time, as we will be on site setting up and unable to answer your messages. Please instead ask any questions at the event registration area or contact us on social media. A family member or friend/spectator has mentioned they would like to volunteer. Who is the best contact? No event like this can run smoothly without the help of many marshals. They become a fundamental part of an athletes race experience. If you know someone who would like to volunteer at the event, then please ask them to contact volunteers@osbevents.com. Each volunteer will receive a t-shirt, food and drink throughout the day.
Water Safety and Medical Information The water safety team will help and support you. If required, one of the safety boats will transfer you back to the start. If you require any help at all, then please roll onto your back and raise/wave your arms. If you are seen to be struggling, you may be rescued into one of the safety boats and then returned to the swim start. This is at the advice of our swim safety team. If this is your first Open Water Swim event, the thought of taking part can be a little daunting. For 99% of the event you will only be a few metres from the water s edge Medical Cover The safety of our competitors is paramount. On the day there will be a team of specialist medical practitioners and support vehicles which can transfer directly to hospital should the need arise. If before, during or after the event you feel that you require any type of medical care, please do not hesitate to contact an event marshal. Medical Conditions If you have any type of medical condition or are taking any type of medication, please write a large MC on the front outside of your swim cap. Please write your medical condition fully on the inside of your swim cap. This will only be used in the event of you being involved in an accident.
