Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Our long awaited championship battle with Blarney arrived last Saturday evening in Pairc Uí Rinn. The first half for most of it was a timid affair with Valleys going three points ahead with scores from Jack Walsh & Eoin O Reilly and a free from Chris O Leary. Blarney replied and on twelve minutes it was all square four points each. Two quick points, one from play and the other from a free from Chris O Leary again, had Valleys two points ahead but Blarney replied with points again. Substitute Rory O Sullivan with his first touch goaled to increase the lead on the 28th minute having replaced the injured William Hurley and a final free from Richard Butler left it 1.07 to 0.08 at the break. Valleys added two quick points from Richie Butler again plus another from his brother Colm to lead by a goal eight minutes into the second half. From here Valleys stepped up a gear with Chris O Leary now dominant in his new centre back position and more points from Eoin O Reilly, Chris O Leary & Richie Butler put us in a five point lead. On the 52nd minute full forward John Cottrell struck the net and put this tie to bed and a final free from Richie Butler left the score at full time Valley Rovers 2.14 Blarney 0.11. A well deserved victory for The Rovers and a place in Round 3. Team: Willie Burke, Eoghan Delaney, David Lynch, Aidan Sheehan, Noel O Donovan, William Hurley, Sean O Regan, Colm Butler, Jack Walsh, Kevin Canty, Cormac Desmond, Chris O Leary, Richie Butler, John Cottrell, Eoin O Reilly. Junior B Football Valley Rovers played their opening match of the year in the Junior B Football league against Ballygarvan last Monday night in Ballygarvan. In the opening 15 minutes the sides could not be separated. Three times valleys lead and Ballygarvan responded immediately. The three Rovers scores coming from two Pa Hurley frees, both after Paddy O Sullivan had been fouled, and a point from Gary Deane. In truth valleys should have been ahead but kicked five bad wides. Ballygarvan took the lead in the 23rd minute from a free. For the remainder of the half Valleys took over scoring 1-4 without reply with points from James Callanan, Gary Deane and 1-2 from Tomas Sweetnam - the goal coming from great work and a superb pass from Brendan lynch. It left the half time score 1-7 to 0-4 to the Rovers. In the second half Valleys continued to increase their lead with points from Robert Sean Sweetnam, four from Pa Hurley, Brendan Lynch and Joseph lynch (2) also got in on the act. While Brendan and Joe were performing in the forwards, younger brother Sean was having a fine game at corner back. It was the first time the 3 brothers played in the same team. Valleys lead by 1-15 to 0-5 after 15 minutes of the second half. In the last quarter Ballygarvan came more into the game scoring 1-1. Valleys responded with a point from Tomas Sweetnam and a goal from Pa Hurley after a pass from Paddy O Sullivan when he had the chance to score himself. It left the full time score valley rovers 2-16 Ballygarvan 1-6. Team: David Lynch, Sean lynch, Bill Hawkes, Jack Higgins, Bill Hayes, Fearghal Lyons, James Callanan, Gary Deane, Liam Dempsey, Robert Sean Sweetnam, Pa Hurley, Joseph Lynch, Brendan Lynch, Tomas Sweetnam, Paddy O Sullivan. Scorers: Richie Butler (0.05 3f), Chris O Leary (0.04 3f), Rory O Sullivan (1.00), John Cottrell (1.00), Eoin O Reilly (0.02), Jack Walsh (0.02) & Colm Butler (0.01). Sub: Rory O Sullivan for William Hurley (injured). The Lynch Brothers Page 2 of 11

Minor Hurling Championship U14 Football League Rehearsals in full swing for the upcoming Strictly Valleys. Valleys P2 minor hurlers got there championship underway when they travelled to church road to play Please Support! Blackrock on Friday night. Valleys got off to a quick start with points from Brian Hoey and Cathal O Sullivan inside the first two minutes. We set the tone for the game with some excellent defending and two long range points from Mark O Leary, we went in leading at half time 0-7 to 0-3. Valleys missed a number of gilt edge goal chances and we hoped that this wouldn't come back to haunt us. The second half started like the first with another point from Mark O Leary from all of 90 yards. A goal from Cian Crowley and points from Adam Kenneally and an excellent score from a long solo run from Sean Barry had valleys firmly in the driving seat. Blackrock hit a number of points and were awarded a penalty which they converted, leaving just a goal between the sides. However Valleys held on for an excellent win on a final score line of 1-12 to 1-9. This was an excellent team effort starting with the very capable Cormac Lyons in goal, excellent defending from Niall Lawton and Shane Lynch in defence, a superb performance from the midfield pairing of Adam Kenneally and Ronan O Connell and lively forward play from Sean Barry and Mike Connolly. Well done to all. Team: Cormac Lyons, Niall Lawton, Conor Hurley, Jack Hurley, Shane Lynch, Mark O Leary, Aaron O Leary, Adam Kenneally, Ronan O Connell, Brian Hoey, Cathal O Sullivan, Sean Barry, Cian Crowley, Micheal Connolly, Misco Savic. Subs used: Ronan Hoey & Conor Taheny. Scorers: Mark O Leary (0-4), Cathal O Sullivan, Adam Kenneally (0-3) each, Cian Crowley (1-0), Sean Barry & Brian Hoey (0-1) each. Our U14 footballers finally got their P2A football league campaign underway on Sunday evening against hosts Bishopstown. The home team had the opening point, but then our lads took control scoring 2-5 without replay, before the teams traded points to leave the half time score at Valley Rovers 2-6 Bishopstown 0-2. The Rovers started the second half strongly adding another 1-1, but then let their concentration levels drop and allowed Bishopstown back into the game scoring the next 3-4, before our lads got a few late scores to just hang on for a final score of Valley Rovers 3-9 Bishopstown 3-7. The U14 football Feile takes place on this coming Saturday 05th May in St. Michael s grounds at 11am. We have been drawn in a group with Nemo Rangers, Ballincollig, Glenville and St. Michaels. Panel: Adam Casey, Aaron White, Brian Lordan, Cian Johnson, Conor Hoban, David Hurley, Dylan O Driscoll, Donnacha Galgey, Evan O Shea, Evan Hennessy, Fiachra Murphy, James O Sullivan, Joshua Murphy, Jonathan O Leary, John Neary, Jason Kelleher, Jerry O Connor, Jack LeStrange, Joey Lynch, Max Healy, Patrick Horgan, Sean Kiely & Zak Sharpless. U13 Hurling League The U-13's returned to action with a P1 Rebel Og League fixture by welcoming Sarsfields to Brinny on Monday 23 April. With very little between these teams throughout the years it was Sarsfields came out winners in a very tight game. Result: Sarsfields 1-05 Valley Rovers 0-06 The U13 s next play Fermoy in the C3 Hurling League & Carrigtwohill in the P1 Hurling league in the coming week. Page 3 of 11

U12 Hurling League Our lads travelled to Caherlag on Saturday afternoon to take on Erins Own in the P2 hurling league. We got off to a great start scoring 1-1 without reply. Erins Own began to come into the game as the half progressed and both side landed some good points and well taken goals to leave the half time score at Valley Rovers 3-5 Erins Own 2-2. U11 John Kerins football Tournament The Valley Rovers U11 footballers participated in the round robin group stage of the John Kerins tournament in St Finbarr s grounds last Saturday. The group featured St. Finbarr s, Eire Og, Duarigle Gaels & Valley Rovers, with the Innishannon side showing well throughout. The second half was a very even contest with both sides hurling well given the heavy showers and slippery surface. The Rovers got some well worked scores to always stay that bit ahead and record a deserved victory on a final score of Valley Rovers 4-7 Erins Own 4-3. Panel: Seanie Crowe, Matthew Kelleher, Harry O Sullivan, Anthony Slattery, Luke Carney, Niall Daly, Sam Browne, Billy Curtin, Oisin McCarthy, Luke Casey, Neil Hennessy, Liam Dineen, Matthew Hoban, Luke Humphreys, Alex Hurley, Roan Gilli & Samuel Lenihan. U10 Football League The U10 s were hosts to Carrigaline in football in Brinny on Thursday last. With three Rovers teams lining out there was plenty of action & all the boys participating well. Page 4 of 11 Some of the U10 Footballers

U9 Football Blitz The U9 match scheduled against Ballincollig was postponed so the squad availed of an invite from Courcey Rovers to join them in a mini Football blitz with Ballinhassig in Ballinspittle. So on a sunny morning on Saturday April 28th the teams met and it was soon clear that their football skills are progressing well. Naoise O'Connell was imperious in midfield with Sean Platt demonstrating strength and accuracy in his shooting. Nick Daly was a commanding presence in defence and Patrick Hennessey provided some excellent passes to unlock the opposition defences. Valley Rovers won all their matches so it bodes well for a successful Summer. Well done to the Valley Rovers boys who played with the Hamilton High school First yr team that qualified for the Dr. Herlihy first yr cup final to be played in Castlehaven on May 6th before the West cork U21 final. FE15 P2HURLING Championship Semifinal Valley Rovers under 15s played Ballygarvan in the semifinal of championship hurling last Wednesday evening in Brinny. It was a fast paced first half with Ballygarvan getting off to the better start and dominating play throughout. Ciarán McCarthy and Dean O Connor scored points in the first half but Ballygarvan led Valley Rovers at half time by 10 points. However, the second half saw a much more coherent Valley Rovers performance and through sheer hard work they scored 1-6 in the second half. Evan O Shea coming on in the second half scored the only goal for Valley Rovers and further points were added by Jacob O Driscoll, Johnathan Kenneally and Ciarán McCarthy. Unfortunately, Valley Rovers bowed out to Ballygarvan losing by four points. The final score was Ballygarvan 2-11 to Valley Rover 1-10. Team: Aaron White, Daniel Hurley, Dylan O Driscoll, Conor Cremin, Jonathan Murphy, Jonathan Kenneally, Adam Murphy, Sean Egan, Ben Humphries, Dean O Connor, Cathal Brady, Philip Bernard, Killian Kilduff, Ciarán McCarthy, Jacob O Driscoll. Subs: Cian Dunne, Conor Manning, Conor Egan, Cillian O Brien, Jason Kelleher, Evan O Shea & Jonathan O Leary. Scorers: Ciarán McCarthy (0-6) Evan O Shea (1-0), Jacob O Driscoll (0-2) Jonathan Kenneally (0-1) & Dean O Connor (0-1). U15 Team huddle prior to start of the U15 game U21 B County final Valley Rovers 4.10 Vs Araglen Desmonds 3.11 Valleys 21 footballers had an outstanding win over Araglen Desmonds in the County 21B Football championship final last Sunday at the new Grenagh GAA Grounds. This victory was just reward for a team who never give up no matter what the odds. Valleys had to play without Kate Wall who was playing for the Cork Intermediate Camogie team in the League final and an agreed time to allow her to play both games could not be accommodated. Nevertheless, Valleys have a strong panel and a 4.10 to 3.11 victory was achieved. Araglen went into the final as strong favourites with the Cork Senior centre back and a number of cork underage players in their ranks. The first 15 minutes was quite even with the teams level at 3 points apiece. Araglen then scored a goal and point to put them 1.4 to 0.3 ahead. Valleys were playing against a slight breeze and when Daire Kiely scored a goal after good pressure from Alison Murphy they were in a good position nearing the break. Page 6 of 11

Just before half time however Araglen scored their second goal on the rebound after a great save from Jane Mulvhill giving Araglen a four point lead at half time. With a slight wind at our backs in the second half, this position was reasonable and with the added belief that we were as good as them Valleys knew that they had every chance. After the restart Laura Brew scored a point to leave three points between the teams. After this Araglen scored a point to be followed by a goal to give them a seven point lead. At this stage it didn t look good for Valleys as the game appeared to be slipping away from them. But yet again this group of girls dug deep and the movement of Katie Lynch from Centre back to full forward gave new momentum to the attack. Laura Brew kicked another great point to be followed by a cracking goal by Katie lynch. With three points between the teams Valleys applied tremendous pressure to the Araglen kick out. This led to a 14 meter free from an acute angle which Daire Kiely drilled to the roof of the net. With the game all square both teams fought for every ball with the Valleys girls standing up to a much bigger and more physical side. Valleys won another free on the 30 meter line and when the full back and keeper failed to clear their lines, Laure Brew scored Valleys fourth goal. The tension and excitement both on and off the field was unbelievable and with the ref playing five minutes of injury time Valleys showed tremendous resolve to keep Araglen out. Araglen got a 20 meter free but blazed the ball over the bar. When the final whistle went there were amazing scenes of euphoria and celebration by players, mentors and supporters. Team: Jane Mulvihill, Carol Cremin, Rachel O Sullivan, Cathy O Dwyer, Niamh Hurley, Katie Lynch, Laura Lowney, Jennifer Murphy, Grainne Dart O Flynn, Jennifer O Donovan, Eimear Kiely, Daire Kiely, Danielle Murphy, Kate Bernard, Alison Murphy. Subs used: Sinead Dart O Flynn, Laura Brew & Aoife O Reilly. Panel: Cathy O Donovan, Ellen Fennelly, Amy Allen, Amy Mulcahy, Grace O Reilly, Emma O Brien, Sarah O Dwyer, Leah Murphy Scorers: Daire Kiely (2-5), Laura Brew (1-2), Katie Lynch (1-1), Grainne Dart O Flynn (0-1) & Eimear Kiely (0-1). Having won the 21C County last year and now the 21B this year, Valleys LGFA has an outstanding group of footballers and the future is very promising. The club extends it congratulations to team member Kate Wall who unfortunately missed the final but did go on to win an All Ireland Division 2 Camogie medal with Cork on Sunday. It will go nicely with her u21 ladies football county medal I m sure. Captain Jennifer Murphy accepting the U21 cup Page 7 of 11

14A Ladies Football League The Ladies U14A season finally resumed last week with two League games against Castlehaven last Wednesday and Courcey Rover on Friday. Due to the recent bad weather a number of games were cancelled and with pitches unfortunately being closed there have been limited opportunities to train. Despite this, the girls showed an excellent attitude in the first game against Castlehaven with a 5-11 to 1-4 victory. The followed this up with a 5-17 to 3-3 victory against Courcey Rovers. The full squad has been used in these games in order to give as many of the squad game time and the results mean the team have now successfully qualified for semifinals of the League. Due to Board fixture schedules, the girls have two more games this week on Monday against Bandon and Clonakilty on Wednesday which will mean 4 games in one week for the team. With all the commitments at this time of year for the girls, we would like to thank the parents for their support in ensuring we could meet the challenging fixture schedule. Senior Camogie League Ballygarvan 1-17 Vs Valley Rovers 3-07 Valleys played their second game in the Senior League against Ballygarvan in poor pitch conditions in Ballygarvan last Friday night. Valleys were without several regular players with college exams in progress at present. Ballygarvan were first off the mark with a goal in the opening 5 minutes. Valleys were soon to draw level when Eileen Foley doubled on a high ball coming into the square from a Susan O Leary free. Both teams exchanged points for the remainder of the half leaving the half time score at Ballygarvan 1-7 to Valleys 1-3. In the second half Valleys fought hard and had further goals from Eileen Foley and Katie Lynch and were unlucky to have another goal disallowed. During the second half Ballygarvan added on the points. With only 5 minutes remaining there was only a point separating the teams. But in the final minutes Ballygarvan added on 3 unanswered points. This was a god solid performance from Valleys who look promising to establish themselves at the Senior grade. Team: Gillian Harrington, Sarah Lynch, Clodagh Deasy, Elaine Forde, Marie Forde, Ena Coughlan, Michelle Cottrell, Susan O Leary, Laura Brew, Eimear O Regan, Katie Lynch, Orla Deasy, Grace O Reilly, Eileen Foley, Cathy O Donovan. Three Valley Rovers girls played with Cork over the weekend in the U14 Development blitz's in Limerick - Fiona Twohig, Grace O'Dwyer and Cliodhna Prendergast. Well done to all involved. Page 9 of 11
