St. Margaretsbury Tennis Club The Recreation Ground Stanstead Abbotts Ware, Hertfordshire SG12 8EH April 2016 James Springham Runton Lodge Baas Hill Broxbourne Herts. EN107EP 2016/17 Membership Newsletter I would like to welcome you all to the new tennis season which starts on 1 st May. Once again the tennis courts are in superb condition coming in to the new tennis season and have this week been cleaned and re-sanded as part of our annual maintenance programme which is done twice a year. I hope everybody enjoys playing on the surface. Tony Combellack has taken over as Club Captain for the coming year and Sarah Ross is our new Social Secretary. In addition, Simon Playfair joins the committee. We are running a number of club events in the coming months which we hope you will participate in and enjoy which are as follows: We are starting the new tennis year with a Beer, Wine and Curry evening on Friday 15 th April open to all members. We will meet in Stanstead Abbotts for a drink and will eat at one of the Curry Houses. We hope to make this a regular event if it is supported by members. If you are interested in coming or have any questions, please speak to me or another committee member or contact me by email. Other dates for the diary are as follows: Tennis Open Weekend 14-15th May Quiz Night Saturday 11th June Intra-Club Finals Day Sunday 17th July American Tournament and BBQ 4th September Christmas Dinner Saturday 3rd December I will be emailing all members with details of these events in due course. 1

The successful intra-club competitions will be repeated this year again organised by Simon Playfair and I will forward further details to all members very soon. We hope to have the competitions up and running by 1 st May. We are continuing our coaching arrangements in the coming year with Over and In https://www.overandin.com/ Tony Cook from Over and In will be providing coaching to both juniors and adults. If you need any coaching or have any ideas of what coaching we should be providing please contact Tony Cook direct on tonycook111@gmail.com We are now making club tennis balls available to all members. Tennis balls will be available to use and will be stored by the Peg board in the kitchen. We hope everybody will benefit from this change. To improve the communication with everybody we will be posting news and information on our website http://www.stmargaretsburytennis.co.uk/ and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/stmargaretsburytennisclub Please check them out for up to date information on what is happening with the club. Thanks to all members who opted-in to the LTA Wimbledon Ballot. We have been allocated nine pairs of tickets for the Wimbledon Championships including a pair for both the mens final and semi-final. If you opted in to the LTA ballot you will be contacted by me soon to explain how the ballot will be run and the tickets allocated It is important to the club to have as many members as possible registered with the LTA with St Margaretsbury as your nominated place to play. The more members we have registered the more successful we are likely to be in being allocated tickets in ballots such as Wimbledon and the more likely we will be successful in gaining grants to improve our facilities. Registration is free. As such you will be asked to provide your British Tennis Membership number on your Application or Renewal form below which must be completed by all members. Please note that by joining the Club you agree to abide by the Club Code of Conduct herein. We have some great facilities at the club and I hope you will make good use of them in the coming year. 2
