RULE DICTATES IN JACKPOT WHILE QUIET TEMPER DOMINATES PRINCESS With a pair of Grade III events for 2-year-olds and well over $1.5 million in total purse money offered, Delta Jackpot Night has become one of the richest race programs in North America each year. The 2009 edition featured plenty of heart pounding action and a few surprises from Mother Nature as well. As last year's marquee program got underway on December 4th, the weather outside was frightful with temperatures dropping into the 30's and rain, sleet and snow all in the forecast. As it turned out, race fans witnessed a little of each while the program unfolded, but none of it could put a damper on some truly exceptional performances. Boyd Gaming's $750,000 Delta Jackpot Stakes was won by WinStar Farm LLC's Rule, who defeated Uh Oh Bango with Oak Motte winding up third. The race was contested over a track listed as sloppy after a cold rain and even large snowflakes had fallen on Vinton earlier in the evening. Rule, who set a one-mile track record in the Jean Lafitte Stakes at Delta Downs just 28 days earlier, covered the 1-1/16 miles of the Jackpot in a time of 1:45.63. The Todd Pletcher trainee was ridden to victory in the Jackpot by John Velazquez after Corey Lanerie booted him home in the Jean Lafitte. Rule won both of his starts at Delta Downs last year by using the same tactic, getting in front and holding off the competition. In the Jean Lafitte Stakes he held a narrow lead after a half mile before drawing clear to score by an astounding nine lengths on the finish line. In the Jackpot he was only able to gain a one-length advantage turning for home before holding off a tenacious and unwavering Uh Oh Bango by a neck. Rule is a dark bay or brown Kentucky-bred colt by Roman Ruler, out of the Personal Flag mare Rockcide. Rule's dam is a daughter of Belle's Good Cide, who also produced 2003 Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide. Rule was bred by his owner. After his big win at Delta Downs, Rule took some time off before making his sophomore debut in the Grade III Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs where he came through with his fourth straight victory. After that he showed up in the Grade I Florida Derby where he set a rapid pace and held on for third. 16

Rule's tally in the Jackpot last year came just two races after fans watched a scintillating performance by Mark H. Stanley's Quiet Temper in Boyd Gaming's $500,000 Delta Princess Stakes for 2-yearold fillies. The Dale Romans trainee came from off the pace early before drawing clear by 7-3/4 lengths at the finish line, defeating Bella Diamante and Joanie's Catch by a nose and a half-length respectively. Quiet Temper, was ridden to victory by Louisiana native Robby Albarado, who won the Delta Jackpot Stakes in 2006 with Birdbirdistheword. Quiet Temper is a bay filly by Quiet American, out of the Silver Deputy mare Dead Aim. She was bred in Kentucky by James Jones. The Delta Princess Stakes proved to be a launching pad for Quiet Temper. Coming into the race she had recorded three consecutive second-place finishes in New York. After her win in Vinton she went on to a rousing victory in the Grade II Fair Grounds Oaks and an appearance in the Grade I Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs. This year's Delta Jackpot and Delta Princess Stakes are the only graded races of the season at Delta Downs. This season they will take place on Saturday, November 20th. There will be a special first post time of 1pm. 17

Louisiana Premier Night is one of the most exciting and highly anticipated programs each year at Delta Downs. The evening of competition features 10 stakes races for Louisiana-bred horses competing for $1 million in total purse money. This year the big night of racing will take place on Saturday, February 5, 2011. LAPN has grown from just five races in 2002 to its current level today. In 2010 the impressive program included three repeat winners from the previous year, Star Guitar, Superior Storm and John Charles. Star Guitar made history last year as the only two-time winner of the richest race on LAPN, the $200,000 Louisiana Premier Night Championship. The homebred property of Brittlyn Stable, Inc. was guided to victory in 2010 by jockey Curt Bourque after Robby Albarado accepted the winning ride from trainer Albert Stall, Jr. in 2009. The victory by Star Guitar was extremely impressive, but the exploits of Superior Storm in the LAPN Distaff did not go unnoticed earlier in the card. Under jockey Luis Quinonez, Superior Storm took her second consecutive LAPN event after scoring a tally in the 2009 Starlet with Gerard Melancon up. Superior Storm is owned by Jac Mac Stables, LLC, who employed trainer Sam Breaux in 2009 before Richard Jackson saddled their Bayou Star star last year. The other repeat winner on the 2010 LAPN program was Sam Breaux's charge John Charles, who was somewhat overlooked by the wagering public at odds of 8-1 after scoring a twolength victory in the same event a year earlier. With jockey Francisco Torres aboard in 2010, John Charles stalked the earlier leaders before overtaking Rail Ridge in deep stretch and recoding a half-length this time around. Several horsemen have enjoyed multiple wins on LAPN over the years. The feat of three wins on a single LAPN card by a jockey has been accomplished by five different jockeys including Gerard Melancon (2004), Shane Sellers (2004), Robby Albarado (2005), Kerwin Clark (2007), and Colby Hernandez (2009). 24

Jockeys with a riding double on one LAPN card include Kirk LeBlanc (2002), Colby Hernandez (2008), Cody Meche (2008), Robby Albarado (2008), Gerard Melancon (2009), and Curt Bourque (2010). There have been six trainers who have saddled two winners on a single LAPN program over the years. They include Sam B. David, Jr. (2004), Steve Asmussen (2004), Troy Young (2005), Keith Bourgeois (2008), Sam Breaux (2009), and Albert Stall, Jr. (2010). This year's stakes program at Delta Downs includes 22 races and $4,020,000 in total purse money. Louisiana Premier Night makes up 45% of that amount and nearly 25% of the stakes purse money. Those facts make LAPN a can't miss program for race fans all along the Gulf Coast who plan to watch the event in person, as well as countless horse players who wager on Delta Downs via simulcast at OTB's and racing outlets across the country. DON MCBETH MEMORIAL JOCKEY DASH For the second consecutive year Delta Downs helped raise money for the Don McBeth Memorial Jockey Fund during the 2010 American Quarter Horse Season. The event was held on Friday July 9th and it featured a 40-yard foot race for members of the local jockey colony. Young pilot Josh Dearman proved much faster than his competition as he cruised to his second straight victory. Dearman broke out of the gate faster than some of his four-legged mounts and never looked back, winning the race easily and in the process giving him bragging rights for another year. Delta Downs Quarter Horse jockeys were sponsored by local horsemen in the Don McBeth race and in the process raised $1,150 to assist injured and disabled jockeys. Delta Downs pitched in another $1,750 to bring this year's total donation up to $2,900. That total marked a $200 increase over 2009 when a total of $2,700 was donated. Jockey Josh Dearman 33

Quarter Horse racing has been a special activity for families across the country for many years in America. Bringing the children out the racetrack to watch 1,000-pound athletes storm down the stretch has made for plenty of thrilling memories, especially in the state of Louisiana, which has one of the richest racing traditions of any area in the world. Delta Downs recognizes the role children play in the development of racing fans each year by hosting an event called 'Kids' Night At The Races'. The evening of heart pounding sports is mixed in with plenty of food, fun, and racing education as the little ones get up close and personal to both the horses and the jockeys who ride them. In 2010 Kid's Night took place on Friday, June 25th and was bigger and better than ever, as hoards of children converged on the track apron. During the program, winning riders passed out jockey goggles and shook hands with fans of all ages. The jockey colony even gathered together for a group picture with those in attendance, which provided a momento that will last a lifetime. In addition to contact with the jockeys, kids also filled their bellies with free goodies like ice cream, popcorn, cookies and candy. They also danced and played on the apron as moms and dads watched their children enjoy life at the racetrack. 37
