Minimum Training interval between upgrading for a rank. A period of regular training up to the grading is prerequisite. The time of training or number of classes to attend alone is not enough to achieve a higher rank. All technical requirements must be met. For 9 th Kyu to 4 th Kyu the Examiner will be counting for timing of the steps. All kicks must be shown at Jodan level if nothing else is mentioned. All techniques shown for 9 th Kyu to 6 th Kyu must focus on correctness. Techniques shown for 5 th and 4 th Kyu must be demonstrated with the use of the hips, hikite and correct breathing. Techniques shown for 3 rd Kyu and up must be with focus, power, balance and correctness. The key point for shown for 8 th and 7 th Kyu is correctness. From 6th Kyu until 4th Kyu the examinee must demonstrate rhythm and understanding of the movements. From 3 rd Kyu and up full power, balance and correctness must be demonstrated. The examinee must be able to explain the purpose of every move in the kata(bunkai). The examinee will have to do minimum 3 demonstrations(oyo) from the kata during the gradings for 5 th Kyu and above. For the shown at the grading the examinee must know the number of moves in each kata and where there is a Kiai.
Kumite Gohon-kumite The examinee must demonstrate the skill to engage with basic/fundamental techniques. Correctness is the focus. The examinee must show confidence in blocking. -Ippon-Kumite The examinee must demonstrate correctness, control, focus and balance during execution of the techniques - both in attack and defence. Jiyu-Ippon-Kumite Legend X ZK KK KB Zenshin Koshin Zenshin-Maware-Zenshin Sonaba Zenkutso-Dachi Kokutso-Dachi Kiba-Dachi The examinee must demonstrate focus, power and correct distancing during defence and attack. For 1 st Kyu the examinee is encountering attacks from the left or right Kamae. It must be demonstrated that full power is generated in the counterattack. For Shodan and above the examinee must show a variety of defences and counterattacks. A defence and counterattack combination cannot be used more than once. The examinee must demonstrate full power and timing in the counterattack that would efficiently stop the opponent. Pre-tests Shodan The examinee must be able to perform the first 15 Sandan The examinee must be able to perform all Jiyu-Kumite The examinee must use decisive blocking, countering, engage with correct breathing and Kime. There is no point system. Sparring is continuous and without interruption regardless of execution of a successful attack or counterattack. The sparring is to test whether the participants can conduct sparring in a safe manner showing control and full Kime without injuring the opponent. A successful attack is stopped within one inch from the area of attack (Sun-Dome).
