They invite you to enjoy long walks, combing for seashells, beach glass, mermaid's purses and other treasures. Bring a picnic and let the sound of the sea refresh your spirit. Or try your hand at body surfing, kayaking or surfcasting. Nantucket's rugged coastline is waiting for you. Children's Beach Located on the harbor and just a short walk from White Elephant Hotel Residences and White Elephant. It is a quiet beach that features very few waves and makes it an ideal place for families. Amenities include a park, playground, game tables, lifeguard, restrooms, showers and food service. Jetties Beach Located on the bay and easily reached by bike or shuttle. The surf is mild surf, and a playground and volleyball net are available. Lifeguards are on duty. Amenities include playground, changing rooms, restrooms, lifeguard and food service. Dionis Beach Three miles from town on the bay side and easily reached by scenic bike path. Sheltering dunes and calm waters. Lifeguard, showers and restrooms. Surfside Located at the end of Surfside Road on the ocean, 3 miles from town, accessible by paved bike path or NRTA shuttle (summer only). Heavy surf. Lifeguard, restrooms, showers, and food service. Siasconset Known for rougher waters and waves, but is perfect for an oceanside picnic lunch. Regular shuttle bus service or sevenmile ride on paved bike path. Surf can be heavy; lifeguard. Food available in nearby village of 'Sconset. Quidnet Just a bike ride away from the center of town, visitors can get a great view of Sankaty Head lighthouse from this remote and private beach. Bike Paths & Rentals The most popular way to see the island is on the paved two-way bike paths. Rentals are available right off the boat at Young's Bicycle Shop, on Steamboat Wharf, 508.228.1151, Nantucket Bike Shop, on both Steamboat and Straight Wharves, 508.228.1999 and Cooks, 508.228.0800, right next to the White Elephant Hotel Residences on South Beach Street. Lighthouses Brant Point Light A short walk from Nantucket Town. The original structure was built in 1746 and it was the second lighthouse built in America. Great Point Northern tip of the island, overlooking miles of splendid beaches. Sankaty Head Perched way atop Sankaty Bluff in the east.

Windsurfing, Sailing, Kayaking & Surfing Check out Nantucket Community Sailing, 508.228.6600 for windsurfing, sailing and surfing. Wind surfing classes and rentals are available at Jetties Beach. Sail boats are available for rental from Nantucket Harbor Sail on Swain's Wharf, 508.228.0424. For kayaks, canoes, and surf bikes, rentals are available from Sea Nantucket at Francis Street Beach, 508.825.9197. Whale-watching Whale-watching in Nantucket's Great South Channel is the ideal spot for watching these wonderful creatures. (Weather permitting, each week between mid-july and mid-september.) Private charters can be arranged. From June 15 - Oct. 15 the Shearwater runs whale watching tours on Sun., Wed., and Fri. leaving at 8AM returning at 2PM. Golf Miacomet Golf Club features a new eighteen-hole course with views of Miacomet Pond and coastline. Consult your concierge about available tee times. Nantucket Island's Siasconset Golf Club has a nine-hole course, encircled by conservation land and Sankaty Head Golf Club in Sconset, is a private 18 hole course ranked in the top 100 golf courses in America. Sankaty is open to the public from October to mid-may. The fee is $125 to walk the course and $25 additional for a cart.
