Financial Report-Motion by Tronnes to approve the financial report. Motion seconded by Sabers. Motion carried. A discussion was held regarding a potential replacement for Cheryl Loes as Treasurer when Cheryl will no longer be in this position after the current hockey season. Sarah Oconner, who has professional financial experience, may be interested in the position. A discussion was held about having a financial review conducted before a new Treasurer would assume those duties. A discussion was held about 2 outstanding player fees from last year. It was decided that the players associated with those unpaid fees would not be allowed to be on the ice, even for practice until the fees are paid. Buildings- President Lord said that the white protective net was installed in front of the mezzanine and gates may be installed in the near future to limit foot traffic in the bench area. Old Business Olympia Advertising Update-The new Vern Eide advertising will be installed on one of the Olympia ice resurfacers soon. It may be done by 11-15-2017. Girls Varsity T-shirts-These T-shirts will have the player s last names on them. Nicknames are not allowed. New Business Dib hours-president Lord told the board that one person brought forward a concern about once Dib hours are posted, people claim the hours right away leaving other members without a chance to claim them. No action was taken. Pink The Rink-Courtney Denne requested that all gate proceeds from the Boys Varsity game for this event be donated to Avera Cancer Foundation. Treasurer Loes said that this usually amounts to approx. $400-$600. Motion made by Nash to donate gate fees to Avera Cancer Foundation. Motion Seconded by Loecker. Motion carried. Game Video System-Board member Tronnes said that he found a reasonable way to record League games. The games will be recorded on a lap top computer and could be downloaded to YouTube. Tronnes said that it would cost approx. $400 for software/capture card/equipment needed to do this.

The MSHA video camera could be used to record the video, which would later be watched by the coaches/team in question. Board member Stucky made a motion to spend up to $400 for this equipment. Motion seconded by Nash. Motion carried. Player Entrance-President Lord said that approx. 15-20 non-players entered through this entrance during a recent game to avoid paying to watch games. A discussion was held. It was decided that the Coaches should lock this door when all of the players are at the rink (all players are to be at the games one hour prior to the start of the games). Stucky said that the Sports Authority has made no decision. STMF Hunt Recap-Board member Tronnes said that there was a 67% increase in profits from this year s event. President Lord said that this event was good for Mitchell Hockey as this foundation donates money every year to our association. Concessions-President Lord said that he is looking at trying to get a direct food service delivery to the rink. No decision on this was made. Avera Contract- President Lord said that our current contract essentially the same as previous contracts. Mitchell Telecom Donation- President Lord said that Mitchell Telecom donated the video wiring for the mezzanine. Motion Seconded by Sabers. Motion carried.

MSHA Programs Committee December 5, 2017-7:00pm at MAC Director s reports: 1. Registration Lori Goldammer a. Recap on registration numbers i. Minis 28 (32 last year) ii. Mites 21 (38 last year) iii. Squirts 25 (27 last year) 2. Scheduling Liz Kitchens a. Mites miss 3 practices We may need to adjust the schedule for the Thursday night games that have been scheduled by the state. The mites have jamborees the following weekend on each of these dates so it may not be a big deal if they have skip. b. We are not being informed of the figure skaters schedules other than what Liz has been able to find on the Jessica s website and Dan was also not aware of her scheduled activities. We would like to know if she has any competitions scheduled to make sure they don t conflict with our league/tournament schedules. c. Pink the rink Jan 20 th nothing can be scheduled on that rink on the 19 th. T-shirt orders will be coming. We ll have PW games, JV & Varsity on pink ice. d. Jan 27 mite jamboree e. Feb 3-4 squirt jamboree 3. Coordinators Sonya Puetz a. Season pass sales are up! b. Add a new code for the door for the tourney coordinator for tournaments 4. Equipment Greg Goldammer a. We will take a few navy mini jerseys down to Photography Unlimited for pictures since the jerseys have not been handed out yet. The coaches wanted to wait a few weeks to hand out jerseys so they could group the players in like colors based on their ability. b. Send out an email to the minis to find out who needs sticks and let them know what else they should have 5. Tournament Directors a. Squirt December tourney coordinator (Jenna Doorn) b. Mite January Tourney coordinator still need to find one. Should try advertising this via facebook and send to local associations to see if we can get any more teams (at 9 as of now including 2 Marlin teams) c. Squirt February tourney coordinator will still need to find one 6. Coaching Tim Loes a. PeeWee there was an issue at tourney last weekend player had a melt down after the game, was banging on the ice/boards and wouldn t listen to the referee or the coaches. Maybe the coaches aren t

aware of what they can do from a discipline perspective to curb this behavior. One suggestion for a possible course of discipline would be to remove captain s privileges for such behavior. b. Mini coach shortage/loss of ice time overall, there is a total lack of communication at this level and there is no continuity or practice plan for the practices. i. Suggest that we have boys & girls varsity players help out on practices ii. We need a head coach to take the reins at the lower levels to get our numbers back up. iii. Don Walker 770-1531, previously coached, said he d be interested in getting back into coaching. Tim will contact him. iv. We need to work on communication with these levels to keep parents in the loop c. Bantams - The coaches need to stay at the rink until the kids are gone for the last practice at night. Bantam kids are still here and the city workers shouldn t have to be the ones to wait for them to get undressed and be picked up by their parents. d. We need to start looking for a coaching director for next year. 7. Media Relations/Historian (open) 8. Minor Officials/Ref Director Steve Laufman a. Squirt tourney ref schedule looks like we got the schedule filled out for the weekend. b. We saw some major problems with refs at the PW Brookings tourney, which Greg has on film. Should we be notifying the state referee in Chief of issues like this? c. Minor official training on Thursday at 7 9. Board Issues Lana/Jaycent a. Recruitment discussions 10. Spring/Summer Carey Grosdidier a. Big Friend/Little Friend - February 3 rd Goals for Good Big friend and little friend will get in free for this game. 11. Recruitment/Retainment Jaycent Reimnitz a. Radio spots with league game schedule/scores Liz has sent the radio stations and the newspaper the schedule for the season. The coaches will be responsible for calling in to the stations to let them know what the scores of the games are. We need to get a list of the numbers to the coaches and let them know. b. The player of the month board is almost done. We will ask the coaches to nominate a player of the month based on teamwork, positive attitude, and work ethic per level. Each player of the month will receive a certificate to Dairy Queen who is sponsoring this award. We will be doing it for all levels for the month of November, December, January and February. c. Discussed the low levels in the girls program. One suggestion was a possible co -op with Huron for girls programs to help keep the girls skating? Just an option to consider. d. We need to make the mini/mite experience more positive to keep them. See notes in Coach Director for more information. e. Maybe we need to change our fundraising thought process and allow families to fundraise more than just the $200 for raffle tickets to apply toward their registration fee. This would help us defray the hockey is

so expensive argument that seems to prevent players from returning at the lower levels before they are really hooked on hockey. f. Adopt a Marlin - has been discussed in the past but it is hard to determine who should be selected. Maybe we can get companies to donate? g. Have a social for the mini families to get them acquainted and make them feel welcome into the Marlin family. h. Another idea would be to have a squirt scrimmage to give people an opportunity to try minor officials as well as experience for new referees. i. We would like to have a Marlins Christmas party on December 22 nd at 6pm 8pm. Free skating, possibly glow sticks for sale, ask Stacy Murtha if he would dj and bring his lights, etc. Have a can collection to help the food pantry. Maybe get County Fair or Coborns to donate cookies and hot chocolate. We d like to nominate John Lord to be our Santa Claus for the event! 12. Medical/Health Lana Loken 13. Director a. State Monthly Newsletter b. Scoring games c. Trophy case shelves are 16 inches tall (three shelves for each 4 ft section) possibly turn them on end and put in adjustable shelves to accommodate the trophies as most are taller than 16 inches d. Water bottle filler electrical is done but still needs to be plumbed. Hoping it will be done by next week.
