THE ANTLERS POINTS MIDWEST CITY, OK BPOE 1890 BENEVOLENT AND PROTECTIVE ORDER OF ELKS All State American Lodge 2012-2013,2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016,2016-2017, 2017-2018 August 2018 Edition The Station of the Exalted Ruler I want to start this article by taking time to thank some special people who gave their time and many hours of work to make our special events successful. Ron Hancock, Chairman of the Garage sale rented a storage to secure the garage sale items. Ron, Mike Kraus, Robert Cabrera and I hauled the items (several trips) from the storage to the Lodge. Robert and Roberta Cabrera our two new members and Ron worked every day from early morning to closing. Patsy Montgomery, Judy Beck, Roberta Cabrera and Gaylia Clements helped price the items. If I failed to mention anyone please know that I am very grateful for your help. David Niles surprised us with Pizza. Thanks David. This project was very important as some of the proceeds from the garage sale paid off the sign. Ron s article goes into more detail of the money made. Thanks Ron you re an asset to our lodge. Stan Mills procured all the supplies for the Pancake Day. Thanks Stan for your hard work. Thanks to all of you who helped make the Pancake Day a success. I want to thank Mike Payne, Roberta and Robert Cabrerra s son and the group A Few Too Many for their hard work and dedication for the Veterans. It was a good turn out. Roberta, Sue and Jennifer keller, Roberta s sister cooked the Italian food for the Dinner. Jackie Mooney, Dianna Hancock and Gaylia Clements furnished the desserts. Thank you all for the delicious food. As you all know, Judy Beck works hard and gives a lot of dedication and support to the veterans by going to the Vet Center and having Bingo night for them. She can always use volunteers. Thank you Judy. There s more information regarding a surprise Bingo game in memory of Ramon Valdez in Ron,s article. Ramon loved the Veterans. We miss you Ramon. August is here and with that in mind, some of you will be on the road enjoying your Labor day weekend which will be here soon. Please stay safe, drive carefully and have a safe return. Perralyne thank you so much for standing in for me at the National Convention. Thank you Charles for picking up some things for my officers. You two are always there to help. I would like to make one request. Please RSVP for the Friday night dinners before noon on Friday especially the Steak and Shrimp. Sue needs to know in order to have plenty of food. I want to invite all members to come out and enjoy the Friday night dinners. I look forward to seeing more support for the lodge. Fraternally, Raymond (Pete)Clements

The tickets are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. All proceeds go to the general fund for our Lodge. The drawing will be at a later Date On August 31, Sue will fix grilled Chicken and everyone bring a side dish. We ll call it Grilled Chicken Pot Luck Dinner. Fall Convention Coming up in September is the Oklahoma Elks Fall Convention to be held at Sequoyah State Park in Hubert, OK. This is the 3 rd year that we have been there for the convention. It is truly a beautiful park. The convention will be held September 7-9. District and State Committees will have meetings throughout the weekend and great information will be given. There will also be a golf tournament held on Friday and the proceeds go to benefit the Oklahoma Elks Major Projects. If you plan to attend, be sure to get your hotel registration booked and you will need to register to attend the convention. The convention registration is available on okelks.org under the member section. I will also have registration forms available in the lounge. The cost to attend the convention is $80.00 per couple /$40.00 single. Can you believe another great night for Poker in one of the hottest months in years?? The hot crowd was just enough to fill the poker table after dining on some great goulash that was sent by Dianna Hancock. With summer comes the absence of players due to vacations. Once again, there were only enough players to fill one table but the competitive spirit still flowed around the table. Ron was hot to start and won 6 of the first 8 hands. His luck slowed after two players were eliminated midway through the 2 nd Period. Danny Jacobs caught on fire at that point and he stayed hot until early in the final period. Rocky Hall had been consistent and remained that way until late in the final period. Rick Riggie had gone all in at one point and had been re-energized when he won that all-in. With 5 minutes to play there were only 3 players remaining. Rick, Rocky and Ron. Going into the final hand Ron had a slight chip count lead followed closely by Rocky and then Rick. On the final hand Rocky went all in with a pair of 4 s. Ron called with an Ace and King. At this point Rick was assured of 2 nd Place so he folded. As the cards fell there was nothing to help Ron and Rocky won the hand and the Tournament with a

Garage Sale Results I would like to say thank you to the many members who contributed items and/or time for our garage sale. Your generosity and sacrifice of time made the sale a big success. We wound up clearing a little over $1600.00 and that went a long ways toward paying off our sign. I would like to pay special tribute to Robert and Roberta Cabrerra who were there every day in preparation for the sale and were there every hour of the sale. Their help assured the Lodge of a great sale. Many other members also offered their time in the pricing and set-up for the sale and the re-arrangement of the goods in preparation for the Pancake Breakfast. I thank each and every one for your help and support. I will not attempt to give the names of everyone who helped because my memory isn t that good and I know I would leave someone off the list. Everyone s time and dedication to the Lodge is what keeps the Lodge going in support of our community and the veterans. Thank you to all. Ron Hancock Chairman, Garage Sale Rib Cook-Off Contest The July rib cook-off was a big success!!! Five entries were made by four contestants (Is that legal?) All the ribs were very good but some stood out as downright great!! The contestants were: Pete Clements, Charlie Debus, Ron Hancock and Charles Reed. All present were given a vote for the best ribs and the results were as follows: 3 rd Place was a tie between Ron Hancock and Charlie Debus, 2 nd Place won by Charlie Debus and the 1 st Place winner and new Lodge Champion is Charles Reed. All contestants are to be congratulated on their ribs and the Lodge is thankful for their participation. After dinner those present were treated to free bingo courtesy of Judy Beck. She provided prizes for each game in memory of Ramone Valdez. Ramone was very big on Christmas in July bingo for the Veterans and Judy, who is our Veterans Chairman, had entertained the Vets at the Norman Veterans Center with their Christmas in July Bingo the same week. The Fleet Reserve Association had sponsored the money and provided help for the Veterans bingo this month. It is so good to have such patriotic organizations supporting us with our Veteran s program and Christmas Food Basket program. Thank you to all!! Our lodge Midwest City Elks lodge has a facebook page. There are 2 sides to the page. The first is where anyone may look at it to find out important information. Public information like our Pancake Days, our community activities etc. Then there is a site for members and spouses of Elks to join that is under Midwest City Elks lodge Group. Once you join you can post any thing regarding Elkdom. You will see important information such as events, food service or if the lodge should have to close due to weather or anything like that. We welcome you all to join. If you have any questions please let us know.

Secretary Report Hello everyone- Here we are the end of July and our local schools will be starting a new year. Please watch out for our children as they go and from school. With August starting, there are some events that will be coming up. Since I am the Lodge Scholarship chair (one of many hats I wear), the Elk Scholarship program will be starting August 15. The lodge will be receiving the flyers promoting the scholarship program. I will be distributing those to the local high schools. If you know of a high school senior, let them know that they can apply for a scholarship. There will be no lodge business meeting on August 8. Our only business meeting in August will be August 22. In case you have not heard, Oklahoma Elks was well represented at the National Convention. Okmulgee Lodge # 1822 won the National Ritual Contest. I heard they won it 0.018 of a point over Lake Hopatcong NJ # 782. Wow! What a contest. Congratulations to Okmulgee for a job well done! At our business meeting on June 27, we initiated 3 new members. Jansen Idlett, Mark Willcut and Jamie Gregory. Welcome all. Sorry I was not there to meet each of you. Thank you Ron for acting Secretary in my absent. At this same meeting, we elected and installed our new Est. Loyal Knight, David Niles. I heard that we had a few special guests at our meeting. State President Gary Lassiter and Sara Lassiter from El Reno attended on a non-official bases and a member from Oklahoma City Lodge # 417 in support of newly initiated member Jansen Idlett. Welcome to all new members. Thank you David Niles for accepting the roll of Est. Loyal Knight. Do you know of any members who are delinquent in paying their dues? We currently have 14 members who so far have not paid... I will not post their names in the bulletin but there is a list located on the bulletin board by my office or behind the bar in the lounge. Everyone have a great summer and hope to see you around the lodge. Mary Vallion, Sec
