Last weekends Memorial Day Pool Party saw record crowds at the pool everyday. The new H2O Lounge (we are still working on a permanent name) has been a game changer. There was standing room only all weekend, as Members and friends watched the college lacrosse championship. Think about how far we have come in a year, this time last year Members gathered around a 28 inch TV in the snack bar to watch those events. Not this year, four flat screens TV s projecting in high definition have become the norm. Thanks to all the Members that volunteered their time, resources and donations to complete this now lounge project, their names are listed in this newsletter as well. The Annual Meeting in May was a success, as we have slightly less than one hundred Members in attendance. A few takeaways from the meeting, first we are a Member-Owned Country Club. This is a big deal compared to our local competitor clubs which are owned by corporations. As a Member-Owned Club, our membership has a say in the future of our Club and we have the ability to make positive changes, like the new H2O lounge. As a Member-Owned Club we also need to pay very close attention to our membership and our ability to recruit new members. This is point number two; membership is the most important issue surrounding all private clubs. We need the membership to be aware of our current membership drive, which is listed in the newsletter and help the Club secure new Members. Finally, point number three is to support the Club and use our facilities as much as possible. This month will feature several of our Markey events: Men s Invitational, pool/ tennis socials and our ongoing clubhouse events. Please remember to watch your children when visiting the Club, particularly in the Clubhouse. Children are not permitted to roam the Clubhouse unsupervised, play on the golf course or enter the locker rooms without a parent with them. As the weather continues to improve, the Club becomes much busier. During these times it is very important to follow the rules to ensure that the entire membership can enjoy their time at the Club. Last month we also celebrated our third annual golf Legacy Open. This year s recipient was Pat Erdly. Pat was nice enough to share some of her golfing accomplishments with the group and we displayed a table full of trophies, awards and plaques that would have made Jack Nicholas proud. The entire day was a success and the event culminated with several keynote speakers sharing their thoughts on Pat s legacy. Dale Erdly stole the show and presented a heartfelt & humorous speech that had the entire room laughing. When the day ended everyone commented how great this event has become. In the past we have also recognized two other HCC legends: Dick Irvin and Harry Schneider. Enjoy the month of June, it is a wonderful time to be a Members of HCC! Cheers, Joe JOE FULCO, CCM, CCE GENERAL MANAGER/COO JFULCO@HILLENDALECC.COM

SUPERINTENDENT UPDATE Hillendale Members, BRAD NOVOTNY HEAD GREENS SUPERINDENT BNOVOTNY@HILLENDALECC.COM The course is now ready to handle the stressful summer months following an ideal May. We ve put out numerous applications to prevent weeds, control insects, and provide plant food for the whole season. Our greens are healthy and growing a strong root system in preparation for the summer, and I look forward to providing excellent conditions all year. We are currently having some of our wells repaired so we can maintain adequate water levels in our irrigation pond. When we water the course, we use around 200,000 gallons of water and our recharge capabilities don t match that at this point. With these repairs, we will be able to match the recharge with the nightly watering volume so that the pond level remains full in case we enter a drought period. The Pat Erdly Legacy Open was a huge success. We couldn t have asked for a better day to honor Mrs. Erdly s time as one of Hillendale s greatest Female golfing members. The golfing, food, comradery, and tributes to Mrs. Erdly were all fantastic. We were also able to raise over $20,000 towards capital improvements to enhance the golfing experience. I always look forward to the Invitational and this year is no different. It looks like we will have decent weather leading up to the year s biggest event and I anticipate another great tournament for our Members and Guests. I look forward to seeing you at the club! GOLF UPDATE BRANDON GRECCO HEAD GOLF PRO GOLFSHOP@HILLENDALECC.COM M A T C H O F T H E C E N T U R Y Hole #3 ~ 190 Yards With his miraculous win on Hole #2, R.G. now had the honor on the 3rd tee box. With a slight helping wind from the left, he set up with a 5-iron and attempted to draw the ball into a back left pin. Unfortunately, he started his tee shot too far out to the right and it sailed right of the tree headed towards the cart path. Brandon was up next, using the same club he attempted the same shot with a bit more success as his ball found the middle of the green and took a favorable kick left towards the pin, leaving him roughly 20 feet uphill for a birdie! As they approached R.G. s ball, they realized his ball had come to rest against the cart path to the right of the tree. Because R.G. s ball is resting against an Immovable Obstruction, he is entitled to free relief under rule 24-2 (Immovable Obstruction). According to rule 24-2, Interference by an immovable obstruction occurs when a ball lies in or on the obstruction, or when the obstruction interferes with the player s stance or the area of his intended swing. Except when the ball is in a water hazard or lateral water hazard, a player may take relief from interference by an immovable obstruction as follows: Through The Green: If the ball lies through the green, the player must lift the ball and drop it, without penalty, within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief. The nearest point of relief must not be in a hazard or on a putting green. Under that rule, R.G. determined his nearest point of relief where neither his ball, his stance or his swing was interfered with by the path. From that point, he took one club length, no closer to the hole and took his drop. In a classic case of the rules being there to help us on the golf course, R.G. was able to go from being blocked by the tree to now having a clear line for his pitch shot to the green (go figure!) With that, R.G. used his 60* lob wedge and hit a very solid pitch shot that released to the hole and left him with 6-feet for par.almost a kick-in..almost! Next up was Brandon, eyeing his putt he set up slightly right of the cup (maybe right edge) and put a solid stroke on the ball. As soon as he hit it he knew it was solid, he looked up and watched as it curled right up the hill and into the cup for a birdie 2! R.G. s par was the conceded and the match headed to the next hole. So far some very solid golf was being played and it looked as if it was going to be a fight to the end! Brandon Grecco 2 R.G. Hackett 3 Match is AS thru 3
