Dance Zone Welcome Packet P.O. Box 1335; 1138 & 1150 Main Ave., Tillamook, OR 97141 Phone: 503-812-4497 dancezonetillamook@gmail.com www.tillamookdancezone.com Welcome to Dance Zone Dance Zone is committed to providing quality dance education in a safe and positive environment. We develop selfconfidence, self-discipline, sportsmanship, enthusiasm and dedication through a level of teaching that challenges and inspires students. Dance Zone incorporates a super-charged level of fun, high-energy dance moves while recognizing the importance of technique progression. At Dance Zone, we believe in teaching students through our own passion for dance, dedication to the art, determination to succeed, and above all, simply making sure we are all having fun! Class Levels & Placements Class placement is at the discretion of Dance Zone. Please keep in mind that your child s best interests are taken seriously. We are committed to making sure your child is placed in a class at the appropriate level to ensure that she/he is able to feel challenged but not overwhelmed. Students are placed based upon skill levels, coordination, musicality, concentration, and maturity in accepting and understanding corrections. It is important to understand that dance levels are not the same as grade levels in school, and that dance students sometimes take several years to move to a new level. Child progression and ability varies. Part of our job as instructors is to make sure they are not bored with their class but also to make sure they are not overwhelmed. Dance class should be fun, not stressful! The class schedule for classes offered at Dance Zone is attached to this letter. Please feel free to ask questions if you are not sure which class to enroll your child/children in. We are happy to help! Insurance Students or their responsible party (parent/guardian) must carry their own insurance, and understand that any injuries which may occur are the sole responsibility of the student or the responsible party. Registration forms must be filled out and turned into Dance Zone prior to taking any classes. Newsletters, Messages & Notices Important monthly newsletters, notices, schedules, and other events/activities are always posted on the windows/doors. It is the responsibility of the students and parents to check for updates on a regular basis. Important updates are also available on Facebook. If you are not already a member of the Dance Zone Parent group please let Miss Sarah know. Student Etiquette * Sign in as you enter for teacher attendance. Call, text, e-mail or Facebook message us if you will be absent. * Dress for class using the dressing room only; not the bathroom or front lobby. * Place shoes & backpacks on provided storage areas. * Use the restroom before class starts. * Enter classroom quietly when teacher welcomes you. * Bring dance bag and water bottle to class; carry all dance shoes at all times. * Remove jewelry and put hair in bun or ponytail. * If you have snacks, take all leftovers home, clean area around you. No junk food or soda!

Studio Protocol Arrival to Class Students may arrive 10 minutes prior to class time. A dressing room is provided for them to change and prepare for class. Please note that students must be quiet and respectful when entering the studio as other classes will almost always be in session upon their arrival. Shoe racks are provided by the door. Street shoes must be removed by all parties prior to walking across the dance studio floor. Cell phones are not permitted in class. Late to Class Students who are late should wait at the edge of the classroom entry until the music stops, and then go in quickly. The warm up time at the beginning of class is very important. The risk of injury is greater if warm ups are missed. Late students who miss warm ups may not be able to participate in that class session. Class Viewing Friends of students are not permitted to hang out during class time. Parents/visitors/guests are not permitted to stay for class. We appreciate your enthusiasm and excitement and cannot wait to show you how amazing and talented your student(s) is at upcoming performances! Parents may observe the last ten (10) minutes of class. Traveling To & From The Studio When traveling from Studio A to Studio B, all students must be wearing pants, a shirt/sweatshirt, and shoes. No students shall be allowed outside in dance shoes/attire. Picking Up Students Parents, please be prompt to pick up younger students after class. Please do not be late. All students 12 years of age or younger must be escorted by a parent/guardian in and out of the studio. Students are not permitted to leave unaccompanied by an adult. Students will not be permitted to wait outside the building. Instructors must be notified prior to the end of class if the student is to leave with someone other than the parent/guardian. Parking Protocol The parking lot can be a very busy place and serves several businesses in our complex. Vehicles are constantly entering and exiting the parking lot. Students of any age are not permitted to be in the parking lot. PLEASE DO NOT let your student(s) run through the parking lot to and from class. Please do not block parked vehicles or the road approaches into the parking lot. Please be mindful about where you are parking. If you are going to be parked for a while, please do not park directly in front of other businesses. Please be careful when backing out of a parking space and watch for children/vehicles. Extra parking is available behind the studio. Lost & Found A large volume of clothing and other student belongings flow through the lost and found baskets at our school. These baskets can be found in Studio A under the coat rack. 1. Clearly label all dance apparel & regular clothing too. This is especially important on dance shoes. 2. Remind your student that they must be responsible for all belongings that they bring to the studio. 3. Regularly check the basket for familiar-looking items. 4. DO NOT leave valuables in dressing area. If necessary, check valuables in with studio staff. You are responsible to pick them up after your class. Items left at the studio for more than 30 days will be donated. *Please be advised that all items in the lost and found will be discarded on a monthly basis.

Dress Code & Appearance Dress For Success A dress code has been established for students at Dance Zone and varies depending on the class. Attire and purchase information is available at the studio and is also included in this packet. Ruby level and advanced Ballet classes are held to high standards and a strict dress code applies. All upper level ballet students must wear pink leather or canvas ballet shoes (satin shoes are not permitted), pink tights, and a black leotard. Ballet skirts of any color are permitted. Recommended dancewear is available for purchase at Dance Zone. Every student must have the required clothing items and have a dance bag. This policy will be strictly enforced by Dance Zone instructors. Students may be asked to sit out of class if the dress code is repeatedly abused. Please label all dance shoes and clothes with the dancer s name! DO NOT wear dance shoes outside. Students must dress in the dressing rooms only, NOT IN THE RESTROOM. Students are not permitted to dance in socks and must have appropriate shoes/foot thongs. Dancing in socks is not allowed as it is a safety hazard and no exceptions will be made. Jeans are not permitted to be worn in class. Hair must be in a BUN or PONYTAIL for all classes. This gives our students a professional look and keeps hair out of the face. In addition to appearance this will also deter the spreading of head lice among students. Average costume cost for younger students is $45 to $55 per routine and average costume cost for older students is $55 to $65 per routine. Costume packages include performance tights and hairpieces. Costume payments will be due the first week in February. We order from several different costume companies and each company has slightly different policies and timelines for distribution of costumes. Most costumes are also made to order and require extra time to deliver. We strongly suggest families start saving money now (Pay Pal account) for costumes so that when costume papers are sent home, families are ready to submit payment. Costumes will not be ordered if payment has not been received when payment is due. Winter Showcase Costumes: (Return to DZ) Costumes must be paid in full by November 10 th. A $20.00 RENTAL FEE per class (except technique classes), these costume need to be returned to Dance Zone staff after the performance. Bins will be provided at the venue. Spring Showcase Costume: (Yours to Keep) Costumes must be paid in full by February 10 th. June Dairy Parade Apparel: Kids sitting on float may wear any of their Spring Show Costumes. No Additional Tuition Cost. Dancers dancing in the parade have an apparel fee that ranges in price from $30.00 - $60.00. Some costumes are based on the dress code for each class. Costumes are not refundable, exchanged or cancelled due to the fact that they are being made to order. Costume deposits are made in November and February are not able to be canceled, transferred, or refunded. Costumes must be paid in full by December 10 th and March 10 th. Costumes are not released to the dancer until they are paid in full. Individual pricing of costumes depends on the style chosen for each particular recital piece. Performances, Parades & Other Opportunities One of the best parts of dancing is performing and we want to make sure our students have an opportunity to shine! We have multiple dates for performance opportunities, once dates and venues have been confirmed, these dates will be announced and all pertinent information will be distributed to parents. Students have opportunities to study in master classes, parades and participate in community shows. We encourage students to take advantage of these opportunities. Dance Zone will be participating in the Winter Showcase (January) and Spring Showcase (June) at THS Don Whitney Auditorium, June Dairy Parade in Tillamook, the 4th of July Parade in Rockaway Beach, Tillamook Relay for Life, Moonlight Madness (?) and the Tillamook County Fair (day/time to be announced). As Dance Zone continues to grow, opportunities to perform will be available. Information including schedules and costs will be provided in advance. While there are no additional tuition expenses in preparation for these special events, additional cost for travel and costumes should be expected. All advanced level students are required to attend all DZ performances including but not limited to showcases, parades, fairs and other local community events throughout the year. We recognize that some students may prefer to only take classes and have no desire to perform on stage. We completely support this decision and encourage parents/students alike to share any concerns about performing with us!

Closures Dance Zone will be closed on Halloween and those scheduled holiday breaks in conjunction with Tillamook School District #9 for Thanksgiving, Christmas, President s Day, the week of Spring Break and Memorial Day. Dance Zone will be open during all other holidays during the school year. Classes for the dance year will commence the week of Labor Day Holiday and will run through the end of June. Tillamook County Fair rehearsals will begin the last week of July at regularly scheduled class times and will run through the following Monday and Tuesday before commencement of the Tillamook County Fair. Additional classes may be added during holiday and the summer months, including workshops and summer intensives. Extra classes provide a great opportunity for students who are interested in excelling in dance and want to improve their skills in defined areas of dance. Please check our website (www.tillamookdancezone.com) for summer and holiday activity updates. If your child is a member of Dance Zone s competitive dance team, please note that national dance competitions generally take place in July and warrant additional practice time during the summer months. These practices/classes will be scheduled upon qualification to nationals. Due to the location of the dance studio, inclement weather (flooding) should not be an issue and the studio will remain open on these days. However, it is understood and encouraged that students living in rural areas outside of Tillamook stay home during these times as traveling can be hazardous. All studio closures will be posted on Facebook. THANK YOU, DANCE ZONE STAFF
