I m thrilled to be part of the Pride Stables volunteer group. Heather and Jen should be very proud of the programs they have established, and how well the horses are cared for. I know I am. The icing on the cake for me is Adrienne and Danny hearing the beautiful sound of laughter when the kids trot, the rapport that I m able to build with the kids and the staff of the organizations, all the wonderful volunteers I ve met and the friendships that have resulted. And the horses; being able to groom them, getting to know each of them, being able to spoil them with carrots, and to spend time with them and the kids, especially outdoors. It's an opportunity for me to give back a little, although I feel like I get back more than I give. Adrienne Volunteer Voice Approximately 3 years ago I stumbled across something that would forever change my life I found Pride Therapy Stables! They were looking for volunteers and I decided that I just might fit the bill. My first impression of the program was two fold... #1. The staff was professional, caring, and extremely competent. I was beyond impressed #2. I was going to be able to participate in something that gave back to my community and made me smile every time I walked away from my class. I walk into the barn and am met with the friendly chatter of the volunteers, the soothing sounds of the horses and ponies, and the smell of the Deb with Paul riding Nahauni barn. I watch my instructor Jen working with the riders, horses and volunteers with patience, compassion, and expertise. I have met some wonderful people and made some very special friends that I will cherish for a lifetime. I remember coming home after a couple of classes and telling my husband what wonderful people I have met... he said, "Deb... these are people who volunteer their time to help others of course they are special. To say that my time at Pride has enhanced my life would be a vast understatement... it has given me purpose and a joy of giving back to those who need a helping hand. I am a better person because of what they have given me not what I have given them. Deb We Dig Plant Nite! Plant your own Terrarium just in time for Valentine s Day! Buy with Pride! A Round of Applause Please Thank you Nay-bours! Many thanks to the SAIL Staff! Incredible gift of over $1,100 towards Pride programs! For the third year, Deer Ridge Golf Club has generously supported us through their charity golf tournament. This year, we received a whopping $20,000! We are truly grateful the support of our incredible neighbours. Check them out at www.sail.ca Thank you so much Deer Ridge Golf Club! HEY BATTER BATTER! Another baseball season passes that saw another great team up with the Kitchener Panthers and Pride Stables. Our amazing volunteers ran the concession stand at the Jack Couch Park home games, the proceeds of which helped support our program. Thank you to our volunteers who ran the stand and cheers to the Panthers on another fantastic year! Wow! $1,700 raised! Thanks to everyone who participated in this yummy fundraiser for Pride. Contact Karen.Kovats@gmail.com to re-order or check out Epicure.com for more! Food Truck Dinner Series The mobile dining experience continued this summer as we welcomed some delicious meals on wheels to the Stables. Special thanks to Schmuck Truck, Fo Cheezy, Café Du Monde, Mango Chutney, The Wild Boar and Breakfast Blues and BBQ! Completing an evening out with pony rides, the series brought $1500 to our program. Thanks to all who came to enjoy the days - more feasting and fun will be had next year. A Hole-In-One! Thank you Waterloo Knights of Columbus Golf Tournament! We were once again the lucky recipients of this fantastic charitable event. Great Day. Great People. Great Golf! Many, many thanks! Sponsor-A-Rider Are you looking for other ways to help? For $35/month, you can give a child the chance to receive the benefits of therapeutic riding. Each week, that rider will not only have the chance to ride, but the opportunity to interact with others, play games, laugh and have fun in a group environment. All this while receiving a stimulating therapy. $420 ($35/month) allows a rider to receive the benefits of therapeutic riding for one full year. 296 riders are currently waiting for sponsorship. Call the office at 519-653-4686 to find out how you can get involved!

Trouble s Tidbits Horse Happenings We have not 1, 2 or 3 but 4 new friends to introduce! As I get older, I see even more around the barn that I would like to share with you. Welcome to Trouble s Tidbits Have you ever wondered why horses have long, flowing manes? (Lyonel excepted ) Starting with the smallest of our new friends Kenny stands 12.2 hands tall. He is an 18 year old Welsh Mountain Pony. He is a handsome grey pony who gives our other grey ponies some tough competition when it comes to the dirtiest. His past includes working cattle events and pony rides at fundraisers so he is quite comfortable in his new role here. Tempestad Tempi for short is a lovely 16 year old, Bay, Paso Fino mare. She is incredibly smooth to ride. She is a gaited horse and looks like she is prancing around the ring. She may take short steps but she is tough to beat in the cheetah race! There are a few reasons! Protection from insects. A horse will flick the mane to the other side of the neck with a shake of the head to swat at pesky bugs. An umbrella. The long hair drains water from the neck when it rains keeping the neck warm and dry. I m so Pretty! It gives humans a place to attach flowers, hats, ribbons and bows. I m not amused. Beauty truly is a beauty! She is a 15 year old Canadian mare that stands approximately 15.1 hands. With her sturdy build she is perfect to help with some of our bigger riders. She may have a slow saunter at times but if you get her moving she is tough to keep up with. And last but certainly not least, the tallest of our new horse crowd and the tallest one in our fields, Coal is a handsome Black 16.1 hand Sport horse gelding. He is a 13 year old, Hanoverian Quarter horse cross. This big guy used to show hunters on the Trillium show circuit and spent time as a lesson horse. His calm, honest nature made him a barn favourite there and is fast becoming a favourite here. Test your Pride Stables knowledge: 1. Who is the tallest horse at Pride Stables? 2. Why do we yell door when coming into the arena? 3. Do horses have facial expressions? (answers on the back page) Did you know Lyonel The horse is one of the 12 Chinese signs of the zodiac. Anyone born in the year of the horse is seen to have the characteristics of the animal, namely intelligence, independence and a free-spirit.
