No hard balls (tennis, football, etc.) will be allowed in the pool except in group activities supervised by a Lifeguard. No WATER GUNS of any type are allowed. At the direction of the lifeguard, adults will be allowed to swim during this time. During this break, the pool area will be cleared of all cups, cans, papers, etc. Swimming will not resume until this is done. Please remind kids and guest as well as other Members to help keep the deck clean of trash. If there is a spill please notify a lifeguard to clean before the bees and bugs get to the spill. No glass is allowed anywhere on the pool deck or in the shelter area. No cans, drinks, bottles or food containers are allowed in or around the pool edge. Suntan lotion, etc. must be in a plastic or non-breakable container. Only non-breakable containers can be taken on the patio or near the pool. There will be no exception to the rule. THE MEMBERS ARE EXPECTED TO PLACE SOILED CUPS, CANS, ETC. IN THE CONTAINERS PROVIDED SO THAT THE PATIO MAY BE KEPT CLEAN AND ATTRACTIVE. If there is a non-emergency problem please go to the Pool House (entrance) for assistance. The pool managers are in charge of the pool and they are given authority to enforce all rules and regulations. All persons using the pool will abide by his or her (or their) assistant's instructions. The lifeguards are instructed to report all persons failing to abide by or repeatedly violating rules. The pool committee will then take the appropriate action necessary; (this may result in suspension from the pool). No child under 12 years of age shall be left at the pool at any time, without supervision by an Elk family member (16 or over). There will be no exceptions to this rule. Pool Questions and Answers What if my child wants to use his squirt gun in the grass area? Squirt guns (of all kinds) are not allowed in the pool area. This includes all fenced areas around the pool. Additionally water balloons are not permitted unless part of a Pool Committee approved event. What types of floaties are allowed? All types of personal floaties are allowed as long as they are being used in the manner intended. Large floaties, boats and inflatable balls are not allowed. If floaties are being used for things other then floating you may be asked to remove them from the water. During the hourly pool break my 8 year old was told he couldn t go into the baby pool. Why? Children over 6 years old (age 7) are not allowed in the baby pool, even during the pool break. While this may inconvenience parents with children above and below 6 years old this rule is to ensure that the young children have a safe pool to play in. We need to prevent pushing, horseplay and old children inadvertently creating hazards for your youngest guest who may not be able to swim in the large pool. I let my 5 year old play in the shallow end of the large pool while I watch from the chairs. Many times older kids start running and pushing near my child and I worry they will knock him under. What can we do to stop this? The adult pool (shallow, deep and dive ends) is not restricted for use by age group. Many times the pool does get crowded and you find all ages of swimmers in all areas. All kids are in the pool to play and there will be splashing, playing, swimming and chasing going on in the pool but, horseplay or any activity that is dangerous is not permitted. It is the responsibility of the lifeguards, parents and pool members to both notify someone and, if needed, stop this activity immediately. Politeness and manners should always be used to remind our younger Elks how we need them to behave in the pool. Remember each parent or sponsoring Elk is responsible for the actions of their children and/or guests. Can children play baseball or throw balls in the grass areas around the pool? The small grass areas within the fenced in area can not be used for any type of ball play with the exception of warming up for volleyball. While in the past kids have been allowed to throw footballs, play baseball and such in these areas they are not designed for these activities and are not large enough to allow them to occur without the potential to cause themselves or those around them injury. Please inform you children that they can not bring non-pool related balls into the fenced area for play. Can my son use his snorkel and fins (flippers)? He may use his facemask and snorkel. To prevent fall near the pools edge and because of the number of people in the pool he would not be allowed to use his fins in the Elks pool unless part of a group activity supervised by a lifeguard. My daughters friend lives next door and will be coming with use to the pool about once a week but, the rules say I can only bring her 3 times and not on holidays. What can I do? The visitor rules are in place to ensure that Elk pool members have the best use of the pool. We would like to encourage you to invite your neighbor to the pool and have them become a member. Do I have to pay pool dues for my baby/young child? Children one year and older on the day the pool opens are required to pay pool dues.

Inclement Weather Statement It is important to remember that common sense should be used when conditions appear unsafe both when deciding to cease activity and deciding to return to play outside activities at the Elks Lodge #1155. This decision will be the responsibility of any of the following: Life Guard Manager and/or Senior Guard Staff member Pool Committee member and/or Lodge Officer Meet Manager, Head official, Head Coaches (during a swim meet) FLASH to BANG Method This decision will be based according to the guidelines set by the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL). The guidelines recommend that athletic participation be discontinued when lightning has been detected within six miles. The decision to return to play will be made 30 minutes after the last dangerous lightning bolt has passed. Lightning proximity will be measured using the flash-to-bang method. To use the flash-to-bang method, begin counting when a lightning flash is sighted. Counting is stopped when the associated bang (thunder) is heard. Divide this number by five (lightning travels 1 mile/5 seconds) to determine the distance to the lightning flash. For example, a flash-to-bang count of 30 seconds means the lightning is six miles away. Where to Go! A safe shelter is any substantial, frequently inhabited building. The building should have four solid walls (not the open shelter on the backside of the pool), electrical and telephone wiring, as well as plumbing, all of which aid in grounding a structure. Keep in mind that it is not safe to shower, bathe, or talk on land phone lines while inside a safe shelter during thunderstorms (cell phones are ok). The following is a list of possible shelter areas: Downstairs inside the Elks Lodge both the Family Room and Lounge areas will be made available during inclement weather. Alternate is in the upstairs ballroom/dining room if available Alternate is inside a vehicle with a metal roof with the windows closed Finally if you are unable to reach a safe shelter stay away from the tallest trees or objects (such as light poles or flag poles), metal objects (such as fences, chairs or tables), individual trees, standing pools of water, and open fields. Minimize your body s surface area, and minimize contact with the ground. DO NOT LIE FLAT! Assume a crouched position on the ground with only the balls of your feet touching the ground, wrap your arms around your knees and lower your head.
