Our 2015 2016 Official season starts on October 24th. ABOUT RIVERVIEW SKATING CLUB The Riverview Skating Club is a registered club of Skate Canada. The programs offered, the skills developed, and the instruction provided to our skaters all meet a specified standard that is consistent across Canada. Riverview Skating Club coaches are all certified through Skate Canada through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and they in turn train our volunteers to assist with on-ice instruction. Riverview Skating Club is the only Skate Canada registered club in West Hants. The club is non-profit and is run by a volunteer Executive committee and coordinators. The volunteers are comprised of parents of present and past STARskaters that have a keen interest in their children having a great skating club.

Riverview Skating Club 2015 2016 Season Information Booklet P a g e 2 CANSKATE Pre-School - CanSkate, CanSkate, & Junior Development CanSkate is Canada s only learn-to-skate program for beginners of all ages. The program focus s and delivers through: fun, participation and basic skill development teaching and mastering strong basic skills earlier to prepare skaters for all ice sports hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating on-ice delivery focusing on continuous movement emphasizes the use of newer and more dynamic group teaching concepts including the Fast Track, Fun Zone and station rotation all of which has been proven to increase practice opportunities and improve the rate of skill acquisition among skaters. visual aids and music are used to create a fun, stimulating and welcoming environment. report cards and an exciting new series of award ribbons to achieve, in addition to the Stage 1 to 6 badges PreSchool CanSkate is designed for 3 and 4 year olds. Children are taught to skate with an active play format through games and creative exercises in our 30 minute sessions. Skaters are working toward their Stage 1 Badge in CanSkate and focus on the fundamentals of skating: go forward, go backward, jumping, turning, falling down/getting up. They also learn the beginning stages of how to stop by learning to make snow on the ice. Skaters will receive various incentives throughout the season. On completion of PreSchool, skaters receive a certificate and will be encouraged to move into our mainstream CanSkate program. Junior Development is an optional program recommended for skaters enrolled in the CanSkate Stages 4-6 who are interested in completing CanSkate and possibly moving into StarSkate (Skate Canada s figure skating program.) In addition to regular CanSkate, skaters enrolled in Junior Development will receive a 15 minute group lesson with a certified Coach. For insurance purposes, ALL SKATERS must be registered before stepping on the ice. All Pre-School and CanSkaters must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet while on the ice. Bicycle and other sport helmets are not permitted. Each family is required to participate in the Club fundraiser for the session(s) they are enrolled in. All skaters enrolled in the Spring session will be invited to participate in our Annual Ice Show!

Riverview Skating Club 2015 2016 Season Information Booklet P a g e 6 EVENTS On October 11 th, we will be hosting a BBQ and Bake Sale at the Pumpkin Regatta. We will also have a Parade Entrance by Riverview. Our theme is Wizard of OZ. We are in the process of obtaining a trailer for a float entry. We will need walkers to hand out flyers and candy. We will also need skaters in Wizard of Oz Costumes for the float. We are hoping that many can find their costumes from the Ice Show! We would love some CanSkaters to join us and we can help provide a costume. If we are successful in acquiring a trailer it is our intent to use many of the props from the Ice Show last year! Everyone had a wonderful time last year at this event and we raised money for the club! Last year Scotia Bank matched our funds raised and we have applied to get their assistance again this year. ICE SHOW April 17 th, 2016 Theme has already been selected Frozen 2 is coming out before Christmas and we anticipate much excitement about the second movie, characters and music.
