Rio Rico Golf Club & Calabasas Station Restaurant Greetings Friends and Members! SPRING!!
Spring arrives in her usual beautiful style..the trees that grace our first tee box are reaching for the sunshine and enjoying the GORGEOUS weather that February brought. March brings in some kite flying weather at times, but also produces longer days, warmer nights, and continued growth for our golf course. March also brings in the Santa Cruz Humane Society Golf Tournament next Saturday..we re excited to report that we have a full field, will have some adoptable pets from the shelter visiting our golfers, our own Roberto Contreras will provide on the spot caricature drawings of golfers and their pets..all in all, another fun event at Rio!! Even if you aren t playing, come on over and enjoy some of the frivolity and support your local community and our wonderful volunteers. Much to report on in this issue, with golf course news, as well as events in the restaurant not the least of which is Easter Brunch! The Golf Course Report I want to begin this section with yet another thank you to our members, friends, and entire staff for the continued support and devotion to the renovation of Rio. The above will be the leading line in the golf course report section from this newsletter forward.it truly IS a team effort.we couldn t do it without you! We are happy to report that we are near completion in adding another pump to the irrigation system so as to increase our water conveyance to the course by an additional 50%. Once that process is completed, expect the fairways and tees to fill in even more which is fair warning that the roll we ve been receiving on the end of our tee shots may begin to decline a bit! No doubt you ve noticed our staff out on the greens everyday hand watering and tending to our greens. Until we replace the sprinkler heads around the greens, this will be the case. Better for our greens, and great for our players to get to know their greens keepers! I remind all that our goal this season was to create a healthy
root base in each green so as to better receive the bent grass over seed we will do in the next few weeks. To that note, some exciting news on our collaboration with the folks from ReNature. Beginning the week of March 15, we will begin application of their organic product on every green and every tee. Records will be kept via a bar code on each green and tee for us to measure results each time we apply the ReNature product, along with our feeding schedule of iron and nutrients. This is a win-win scenario for our course as well as the folks from ReNature----for us, some long needed nurture and conditioning for our soil, and for our friends from ASU, and scientific study that ultimately will lead them to a national product launch---- exciting stuff! We WILL be applying pre-emergent liberally in the next few weeks for weed control---our main focus, as ever, will be the green condition, but as time and funds allow, we will include it on tee and fairway areas as well. Bent grass Overseed of greens will likely be just at the end of March. Our practice green in the front of the clubhouse has come in to use as a nursery and starter for the putting greens on the course. Over the summer we will rebuild the practice green as well as putting in a small practice sand bunker in the same area. Also, as spring moves along, the range will be receiving its share of tender loving care too. Folks, the steps are small, but they are plentiful. We will continue to move forward on this path of renovation and repair, and we appreciate your support! Pro Shop News Pro Shop manager Jonathon Johnson ordered a bit more stock for the shop that should be arriving in the next few weeks----men s and women s shirts from Greg Norman apparel. Be sure to check out our sales items, and remember, there are some previously owned clubs in stock that are priced below market value----if that doesn t do the trick, you can go the old fashioned route and sign up for some lessons! Remember, check us out on Facebook for pics and event postings, as well as our website at www.rioricogolfclub.com

Jane Chanik jane@rioricogolfclub.com Susan Lehman Susan@rioricogolfclub.com Margaret Wolverton Margaret@rioricogolfclub.com Your Sustainable Golf Management Team 520-281-8567 The 'new' Rio Rico Golf club is the 21st century answer for the rebirth of the golf model in Santa Cruz county and southern Arizona. We have melded the well-seasoned and the fresh together, creating a golf venue that is multi-generational, progressive, and just plain old fun-a golf challenge for every skill level from the veteran golf pro to junior's first swing. With a classic course from the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr., we've added the environmental creed of sustainable agronomy while preserving the integrity of Mr. Jones' authentic Sonoran design. With a renovated historical clubhouse that offers farm to fork dining from our own golf course gardens, life event celebrations for the families of this growing region, and a venue for seasonal events from 4th of July fireworks to concerts in the park and movies under the stars, RRGC will become the social hub for the sixty thousand residents from Nogales to Green Valley...it's not just a golf club anymore! Embrace our energy. We welcome you to be a part of the Rio Rico renaissance!
