The most underutilized shot is the lob over the server s partners head. This makes the server have to move across the baseline to retrieve this ball, most times with a backhand stroke, the weakest for most players. The returner s partner can move to the middle or even farther to intercept this return and end the point with a well placed volley. Health & Wellness Bored with Running on the Treadmill? You started running on the treadmill and have seen improvement in your duration and speed, but now you are starting to become less motivated because of finding running on the treadmill boring. I can relate so I thought I would suggest a few options to help keep you motivated and continue your improvement in endurance and cardiovascular benefits. 1)Always run with an incline (1-2%) to help simulate running outdoors. 2) Try running intervals (1 min fast run followed by 1-2 fast walk for a combined 20 min). By running intervals on the treadmill as opposed to running the same pace the entire 20 min you will help to confuse your body and you will see quicker improvements. The body adapts very quickly to your exercising if you do not vary the speed and intensity. 3) Run with a partner. This will help keep you accountable and make running more enjoyable because you won t feel like you are the only one suffering on those hard days. 4) Use the other cardio equipment (Elliptical, Espresso Bike, Open Stride) as an alternate workout one or twice a week to give your body a break from the pounding of the treadmill on your knees/hips but still allow for you to work your heart and legs. 5) Perform dynamic stretching routine BEFORE running followed by a static stretching routine AFTER your complete your running workout. Dynamic stretching before running will help to prepare your muscles and help prevent injury. Static stretching after running will decrease your post workout soreness and help to prevent stiffness/tightness/injury. Incorporate these into your cardio workout and you will continue to see great results as you aim for your goal of a healthier lifestyle. Jonathan Seymour Fitness Director 6
