THIS WEEK S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS: THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD APRIL 29 MAY 6 SCHEDULE NOTE FOR FRIDAY: Members of the media should be advised that the Bruins morning skate/media availability plans for Friday, May 6 (Game 4 at TD Garden) will be confirmed later this week. Due to Northeastern University s commencement ceremony, the teams will not have ice available at the TD Garden. WE MEET AGAIN: After dispatching of Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens in seven games, the Bruins will now face the Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals for the second straight year. The Flyers edged the Buffalo Sabres in seven games, thanks in large part to Claude Giroux s league-leading eight assists. Philly s offense was also bolstered by the league-leading six goals of Danny Briere, as well as five assists each from Kris Versteeg and Mike Richards. The Flyers used three different goaltenders in their first round series, with Brian Boucher, Michael Leighton and Sergei Bobrovsky all seeing action. Boucher got the decision in all four Flyers wins, and he is expected to start in goal for the Flyers in Game 1 on Saturday (3:00 p.m., TV: NBC, Radio: 98.5 The Sports Hub). B S/FLYERS PLAYOFF HISTORY: This is the sixth playoff meeting between Philadelphia and Boston. The teams met most recently in 2010, when the Flyers rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the series to win in seven games. The Flyers and Bruins met in the playoffs in the 1970 s four times, with each team taking two series apiece. The Flyers won the 1974 Stanley Cup Finals against the Bruins, and the other three matchups in the decade were in the Semifinals. Overall, the Bruins are 11-9 in individual playoff games against the Flyers. REG SEASON SERIES: During the regular season, the Bruins took three of four from the Flyers. David Krejci led the Bruins with 0-4=4 totals while Mike Richards and James van Riemsdyk led the Flyers with 1-2=3 totals each. The lone Philly win against Boston this season came on December 11, when Richards won the game in overtime for the Flyers. Tim Thomas played all four games against Philadelphia and had a 1.96 GAA and.942 Save %. Brian Boucher played three games against the B s, going 1-2-0 with a 2.95 GAA and.917 Save %. The Bruins power play went 4-12 (33%) against the Flyers this year, while the Flyers PP was 0-7 against Boston. FIRST ROUND CAPSULE: - The Bruins advanced to the CSF with a 7-game CQF series win over the Canadiens It was the first series victory in their history in which they won after losing the first two games as they entered this post-season with an 0-26 series mark in that situation. - Three of their four wins came in overtime with Michael Ryder ending game 4 and Nathan Horton settling games 5 and 7 It was the first series in which they have played three overtime games since their 1998 CQF vs. Washington and was their first with three overtime wins since their 1943 SF vs. Montreal. - It was their 20th lifetime Game 7 and they are now 10-10 in those games... It was their 5th Game 7 decided in overtime and they now have a 3-2 mark in those contests. 71 STRAIGHT: The Bruins ended the 2010-11 regular season having sold out 71 consecutive home games at the TD Garden. The Bruins sold out every regular and postseason game during the 2010 calendar year, the first time the organization has done so since the 1972 calendar year. THE STAT OF THE WEEK, COURTESY OF THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD STAT MACHINE: Only nine members of the Bruins who skated in Game 7 against Philadelphia last year were on the ice in Game 7 of the B s 2011 first round series with Montreal.
